ART UPDATE: FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS, SKETCHES AND A LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Image
Today I'll share some of my creative pursuits with you. As some of you know, I have quite a few creative hobbies. Landscape painting is one of them but so is fashion illustration. I haven't had the time to pursue these creative interests much as of late, but I somehow I did manage to find some time to sneak in some creative and artistic work. Scroll down to see what I have been into and see a mixture of new art projects and remixes of some of my older art pieces and illustrations. OUR KATE: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL NOVEL BY CATHERINE COOKSON (BOOK REVIEW)

Image
Today I have a book review and recommendation to share with you. Our Kate: Her Personal Story is a deeply touching work of literature. It is a literary autobiography of writer Catherine Cookson and her mother Kate. The relationships between mother and daughter is the focus of this novel. The stories of their lives are interwoven, their relationship close but strained. Our Kate is, in many way,  a story of a mother and  daughter relationship troubled by dire poverty and other problems. This was my first book by this author. Catherine Cookson, or to give you a full title and name: Dame Catherine Ann Cookson was a British author that somehow remains somewhat unknown, especially when compared to her other better known British colleagues. Dame Catherine Ann Cookson is one of twenty most widely read British novelists. Her sales top 100 million and yet many do not know of her. I must admit that until recently I was one of those 'many'. Fortunately, I came upon this second hand copy...

A NEUTRAL GREY DRESS FOR A VISIT TO STARI GRAD

Image
Have I moved to Stari Grad? My recent posts seem to indicate so, but I'm still based in Jelsa. It is just that I love Stari Grad, so I visit it pretty often. It is only a five minute drive from Jelsa anyhow. I did consider renting here in Stari Grad when I initially arrived on island Hvar last year, but then I found something suitable in Jelsa. All for the best, because I still visit Stari Grad anytime I want.  Anyway, let me show you what I wore for my latest visit to Stari Grad. You know this grey dress is the unsung hero of my wardrobe. I reach for it very often, especially when I can't figure out what to wear to work. A neutral dress like this one looks great paired with a blazer. It is easy to dress it up and down. The knee length makes it appropriate for a variety of situations and occasions.  I have worn this grey dress for everything from hiking to conventions and fairs. It really is a magical neutral piece. That is why I decided to link up some of my older looks today...
