CHURCH FORTRESS OF SAINT MARY OF MERCY, VRBOSKA ISLAND HVAR

Image
Today I'm sharing with you an amazing historical fortress that is also a church. The Church of St. Mary of Mercy is not the only historical church on island Hvar, but it is definitely one of the most impressive ones. What makes it so special is that it is a true fortress.  In addition, the church of Saint Mary of Mercy is very unique in its design, a true rarity among European fortress churches. This church is the most beautiful and impressive architectural site in Vrboska. During the tourist season, the church of Saint Mary of Mercy is open from 10 am to noon and from 6 to 7 pm but in low season you should announce your visit to the parish office. The church fort of Saint Mary in Vrboska is quite a sight! We only glanced at it from outside, but I do plan to come inside as well. I have already blogged about village Vrboska (read my posts here and here ). Today I'll focus specifically on this amazing fortress church that you can find in this picturesque village. I also have a b...

MALA STINIVA BAY ON ISLAND HVAR (PART 2)

Image
A place that is this beautiful deserves at least two travel posts, don't you agree? So, here it is: a second post devoted to bay Mala Stiniva  bay. If you haven't done so already, don't forget to read the first installment  of my winter visit to this enchanting bay famous for high cliffs and crystal clear sea. Today I'll show you a closer/more detailed look of this bay. One thing I adore about Dalmatia are all those adorable stone houses that merge so beautifully with the nature itself. What befits a rocky terrain better than a stone house? I do like Dalmatian architecture. Scroll down to have a closer view of the type of houses you can find in this bay as well as too more of its beach.  Isn't this stone house simply dreamy? I love how it looks like it is a part of the bay itself. As I mentioned in my last post,  Mala Stiniva Bay belongs to  Poljica  village on island Hvar. Do you notice the vertical cliffs in the background not to mention t...

VISIT MALA STINIVA BAY ON ISLAND HVAR WITH ME (PART 1)

Image
Today I'm taking you to Mala Stiniva Bay on island Hvar. I might talk for a living, but before this beauty I was left speechless and it's not even the first time I have visited this place. If you remember, I blogged about Mala Stiniva Bay back in 2018 and I originally visited it a few years prior to that rather lengthily travel post. My husband loved this place, so I promised to take him back some time. We went there last week. After I finished working, I put on a pair of white sneakers and drove there. When we got there, we just stared at this bay because it is so overwhelming beautiful. Now, that says something coming from someone who spent most of their summers on this island, mind you. Even for high standards set by island Hvar, this bay is enchanting. Most bays on island Hvar are absolutely gorgeous, but somehow this one stole my heart.  Mala Stiniva Bay belongs to  Poljica  village on island Hvar (not to be confused with a group of villages located on ...
