HOW TO STYLE A BATH ROBE COAT FOR TRANSITIONAL WEATHER?

One of more puzzling trends for Spring must be: the bath robe trend. It exists in many shapes and forms. Just like regular bath robes, these coats are made of different materials and come in different styles. Bath robe coats can give different vibes, from luxurious to relaxed ones. These bath robe coats sometimes come in silk and satin, while at other times they are made of wool or cotton. There was some confusion when the bath robe coat first appeared on the runaway. It was actually a few years ago, this is not the first season that it was introduced. However, this season we're seeing it around quite a bit, with a lot of celebrities choosing to wear this trend.

What to make of this trend? Will the bath robe trend become the new trench coat? It is hard to say. Nevertheless, it is easy to see the appeal of the bath robe trend. Coats cuts in this style are typically very cozy and comfy. If they are made from warmer materials, they make for perfect transitional pieces.  If you're not sure how to wear a bath robe coat, try to find a model that doesn't look exactly like a bath robe. The more the coat looks like an actual robe coat, the harder it will be to make it not look like one.

To start with, you can look for a model that is a cross between the coat and the bath robe. Just so that people don't think you forgot to take your bathrobe when you got dresses in the morning. Details like buttons can make a difference. If coat has buttons and other details associated with coats, it might look less like a bathrobe. Still, no buttons is kind of the key for the trend so don't be afraid to forget about them. Colours and patterns are important as well.

Here I opted for a tartan coat, so in a way I embraced the bath robe trend even more. If you think about it, bath robes do come in this print, so if you want something a bit toned down, you might try a red bath robe inspired  coat. You don't see a lot of bath robes in red, right? Materials are another thing to consider. If you pick a silk bath robe coat, it will be easy to dress it up and down. You might dress it up with heels or pair it with. The lingerie trend is nothing new, so styling a silk or a satin bath robe coat shouldn't be that difficult. Many of them resemble kimonos, so that should make our life easier. Everyone knows how to wear kimono inspired garments by now, I should think.

Finally, remember that every item can be styled in a certain way. If you wear your bath robe coat with more dressier items (fancy bags and shoes), it will automatically look less like the item it was inspired by- that is a bath robe.Alternatively, you can play the casual vibe and wear it with skinny jeans and sneakers to get that model off duty look. Whatever you opt for, make sure you are comfortable wearing it. I think there is always a way to make an outfit feel more like 'us'. Making trends our own for me basically means adapting it to our style. That's the whole fun in trends for me, figuring out what could work for us and making it our own.

TRANSITIONAL STYLING

We all know that transitional styling is all about layering. Pair your bath robe coat with a blazer, (especially if it is made of lighter materials) to make sure you're warm enough. For this outfit, I styled my tartan bath robe coat with another long tartan blazer (and a dress under it). I opted for comfy high brown boots. It was a very comfy outfit and I don't think it looked too bad, either. What do you think? Have I pulled it off?

5 TIPS FOR ROCKING THE BATH ROBE TREND

1. Choose flattering colours and patters

This is something that always applies, but knowing what colours work for us is essential for rocking any outfit. The more the tones suit your skin type, the better you will look. When it comes to trendy pieces, choosing the colours you're already comfortable with can be such a game changer.

2. Opt for materials you already love

It is easier to work with materials that you already know. For example, the silk bath robe coat is literally a twin of a kimono trend. So, if you have already rocked a long kimono cardigan, you will know how to wear this.

3. Don't forget about the accessories

Accessories can always change a look. Adding a faux fur scarf to the bath robe coat can completely transform the feel of it. Moreover, accessories play a big part in dressing up (or down) an outfit.

4. Be confident

Confidence is a big part of rocking any trend. If you wear something with confidence, you'll automatically look more attractive and put together. Be sure you're in a right frame of mind before you wear your bath robe coat.

5.  Don't forget about a hair do and make up

The danger of wearing the bath robe coat lies in looking 'too much' like you've just rolled out of bed. That is why a nice hairdo can make a difference. Never underestimate the power of a good hairdo. Make up is another potent ally. I don't wear much make up myself, but I do believe in a power of lipstick.

Coat: no name/blazer: Uzor// boots: not sure

What do you think about the bath robe coat trend? Can it be that it is the new trench? How do you like this transitional styling? Well, this will be all for today. Thank you for reading. Have a nice day.

  1. It's a "trend"? Wearing a dressing gown as a coat has been a thing on the indie scene for years especially those 1950s paisley print Tricel men's ones by Tootal - me and my friends were doing it in the 1980s! The ones we have on our rails always sell really quickly especially at festivals as they add a bit of individuality to the ubiquitous Levi's shorts and vests most of the girls favour.
It does makes me laugh how long it takes mainstream fashion shops to cotton on to streetwear looks.
Your checked coat is lovely on you. x

    1. It is being presented as a 'trend', even if really it was on runaways for a while now and as you pointed out these kind of coats were around for ages. It does take forever for mainstream fashion to check out on streetwear looks, and sometimes I wish it wouldn't, so these streetwear style would feel unique. Today fashion is becoming more and more globalized.

  7. I'm not quite sure what I think about this bath robe coat trend. I did see quite a lot of people wearing bath robe coats and some of them did look great, but I haven't tried it myself. Maybe if I find the one I really like I'll be more into it. x

    1. thank you Maria. It's not an actual bathrobe just a coat that is cut in that style but it does resembles an actual bathrobe, I got to confirm that.

  13. You styled this coat really nicely. I've never really gotten on this trend since I tend to prefer coats that can button or zip up all the way since I tend to get cold really easily.
