MOSTAR VISIT RECOMMENDATIONS: TABOO BAR AND RESTAURANT + PRIVATE CLINIC VITALIS REVIEW

I first visited Taboo Bar & Restaurant about a week ago when I went to schedule a medical appointment in a newly opened private clinic Vitalis (not sponsored). This place is in the same building, so we went in there for a drink. The reason why I went to Vitalis clinic is because apparently they are the only ones who can do a proper CT bone density test (for some reason it's not available in regular hospitals). My doctor thought I should do this CT because I've been on Imuran and other immunosuppressive drugs for a decade, so there was a risk of my bones being affected by it. I did the test and my bones are fine. My experience with this Vitalis clinic was a pleasant one. I did the test yesterday and it only lasted for 10 minutes or so. Great experience indeed, until I say the bill that is. It was higher than I expected, but it seems I missed the Christmas discount. Just my luck. My blood tests (that I also did in another private clinic because my veins are so ruined from years of IV most nurses can't draw my blood so I opted for a finger blood draw) are not that great, but what else is new? My GP doctor said I need an urgent iron transfusion, but unfortunately I have already had severe allergic reaction to an iron transfusion, so no luck. Apparently, having enough iron in your blood is difficult when you have an illness that makes you bleed internally. Chronic illnesses are also apparently incredibly expensive. Who knew? Pardon my irony, but I have to be ironic and joke when I can. Moving onto brighter subjects.

I visited Taboo bar and restaurant with my husband for drinks first. As I said it's near a private clinic I visited (same building actually), so we stopped there for coffee and hot chocolate. The drinks were very tasty. I liked the place immediately, the atmosphere is really relaxing and the more decor is very eye-pleasing. My husband ( a restaurant lover) asked the waiter about this place, the menu and what they had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised to learn they also serve food. When we heard they offered sushi, (which we haven't tried before) we promised to come back for lunch. That we sure did! We finished our drinks, went home and then we came back for lunch.

We ordered two kind of sushi, one dish with salmon, the other with tuna. I forgot which one came with avocado ( I think the salmon version), but that one was definitely the tastiest. Anyhow, both dishes were excellent. Not that I know that much about sushi, but this restaurant doesn't claim to be the sushi place or anything like that. It's great they have it on the menu, sushi is quite a rarity in Mostar. These sushi dishes were affordable but also quite small. Now, I'm not a sushi expert, but isn't sushi typically prepared with nori (i.e. seaweed)? Our sushi didn't came served with seaweed, but it did come with two sauces (fish and sesame sauce), which I hadn't tried but my husband says they were nice. I also decided to avoid all spices besides ginger, but my husband was more brave and he liked the green spice (what is it called? I think it's called wasabi but I read somewhere that 99.9 percent of wasabi served in restaurant is not wasabi at all, and it's not real wasabi because the real plant is actually very rare so typically the green stuff being served, it's just a mixture of spices and shouldn't be called wasabi). We were also served dried ginger with our sushi which was super tasty. I love ginger. All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience. The sushi options here are more an appetizer, I'd say. We picked up some sandwiches on our way back home because we were still hungry. We picked the sandwiches up at the bakery in the gas station located right next to this building (that's another recommendation btw). The service in Taboo bar & restaurant was very friendly. We do know most of the waiters, but that happens all the time. I've been living in Mostar for almost a decade so obviously I know a lot of people, and it's not a big town.  Still, I'm sure they're just as friendly as helpful in general. Later when we came back for drinks with some friends, there were other waiters and they were just as polite. The atmosphere here is really quite nice.

A few days later, we returned for drinks with friends, another married couple. I don't remember what my husband and his friend were drinking (some kind of brandy I think) but the two of us ordered chamomile tea which was served beautifully and a bit ceremoniously. After that, we had a cup of espresso coffee with ice-cream and bits of chocolate. It was delicious. All in all, my experience with Taboo was a great one. The only downside to this place is the bathroom which albeit beautiful and modern is a bit hard to find. Once you do find it, you need to figure out how to open the Star Trak doors and then you need a moment to figure out where you are in the semi-darkness. There are these huge pipes hanging from the ceilings. I took me a while to figure out they are meant for you to wash your hands. I had to ask for help to figure out how to wash my hands. It's a bit confusing really. They should put some instructions. That would be all for today! Let me know if you'd like to read more reviews like this one. You know I like recommending places in Mostar for you to visit. This place is located in Vukovarska street (you can't miss it, the street is tiny and thee is a big fountain in front of Vitalis clinic). Have a great weekend everyone!

As always thank you for reading. Don't forget to let me know what you think about this kind of posts. *The fashion illustrations featured in this post are my own. This was not a sponsored post.

  3. The food looks nice, although a shame it wasn't enough for you to have for lunch! A nice place to discover. I hope you find a solution to your low iron soon that doesn't involve an allergic reaction!

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend and your 2019 has been off to a great start otherwise :)

    1. Thank you so much Madison. Eating it as often as twice a week sometimes, well that sounds like you really love it. I'm the same way with most fish dishes, I can't tire of them.

  6. What a fabulous place. So much to discuss.
Illness is so expensive, yet so much of it is out of our control. Very frustrating when you do all the right things, yet your body isn't cooperating.
And I had no idea about wasabi. We don't have sushi that often, but at least a couple times a year. Needless to say I don't eat the wasabi (or whatever you want to call it) but my hubby loves it. That's so interesting!!
