The painting and the outfit of the day / Slika i odjevna kombinacija dana (Gdinj, Hvar)

I think I have already shared this oil painting with you. This canvas was a gift for a family friend of mine. It depicts the new church in my grandmother's village Gdinj (in this post you can find all the links to my previous posts about this village). This new church is actually quite old, but I will talk about that some other time. The other building you can see used to be a school. Gdinj doesn't have a school anymore because there aren’t any children left. You know how it is. The state is interested in getting the money from the islands, not in investing in them or finding the ways to keep the people there. Fortunately, islands are resourceful people. They always find a way for themselves if there is a way to be found. Let's hope for the best. They have always known how to take the good with the bad.

I have loved all Croatian islands that I have visited so far. I didn’t visit all 1000 of them, but I visited many. However, there is one that has a special place in my heart and that is island Hvar. God, how I love this island. So many memories created here and I’m always longing for more. This Summer I was here with a friend of mine. We stayed in my grandmother’s house, but we’ve been to all the cities this island has got to offer (including naturally the town that bears the same name as the island).  I didn’t take any outfit photographs; I didn’t even take my cam with me. In fact, this outfit post was taken last year, but I didn't find the time to publish it before. I'm standing on the terrace of my grandmother's house in village Gdinj. This is my version of a denim on denim outfit. I'm wearing jeans and a denim vest.

  1. I'm not surprised you've loved the Croatian islands you've visited so far - from what I've seen, they look beautiful! How sweet of you to give that painting to your family friend by the way, I've no doubt they truly appreciated it :) The sunset you've shared in this post is so lovely Ivana, I just can't get enough of sunset scenes at the moment for some reason. Have a great week ahead!!

  26. I loved your post, dear Ivana, what for a beautiful painting! It's so sad that children are not there on an island anymore, and that the school closed :( I do believe that the islanders are nice and I love that you visit Croatia islands, not the 1000 islands, but I love to know what you tell! Hvar must be so beautiful! Even though it's not an outfit from this year, it doesn't matter, so beautiful! You look always happy, and this is really a very good feature in life! Hugs!

Such a cool look you show here from last year and during I watching the beautiful pictures from the island where your grandmother is living I really want to be back i Croatia soon. Thanks for sharing inclunding your again perfect paiting. It is really a pity that there even the school closed but I'm confident that the people on the islands will manage it all in the end as I think they have the character you described so well here.

  48. Hello Ivana! I really liked your painting from the first sight, by now, when I read what it decribes, I like it even more! How is strange that the state isn't interested to invest some money to keep the locals on the island? And non building new school (which in my opinion it could help in this situation, because if there will be the school, people would like to live there). What's more, you're so lucky that you live nearby such a beautiful views, I saw many sunsets in my life, but I think that the ones nearby sea are the most beautiful ones! :)

Predivna! <3

Missed to visit your blog so much, but I was taking a little break from the blogging world in order to come back with more content ;) Hope everything is going right and you're doing well! I took a snap of your art on Instagram, so I didn't miss part of your creativity after all and I'm happy that you're keeping up the creative vibes :D

Lovely place and the photographies can really transmit the calm of its environment! Also I loved your vision about the landscape, I used to paint landscapes but a long time ago, when I started drawing as a child, even tho maybe I can come back to the habit and try to put into a paper the way I see the world and the nature that surround it :D

Love also the textures and how they go from one surface to another: from the real world over the rocks, the sunset and the clouds to the paper (or canvas). I'm happy that your family and friends give you canvas as a gift ;D

WHAT DRESS TO CHOOSE THIS AUTUMN? SPECIAL OCCASION OUTFIT IDEAS

As I mentioned in one of my last post, I'm already thinking about what I might wear for all those festive occasions that are coming up. Autumn and Winter both have its fair share of festivities. Our social calendar can be quite busy this time of year with all the meetings, events, festivities, celebrations, family and work parties. Some of these social occasions come with a black tie dress code, so I decided to prepare some outfit ideas.  A bit of formal wear inspiration for  my readers. All of these photographs were taken the day before yesterday. We're enjoying a rather warm Autumn in Herzegovina but these outfits I'm sharing can be easily be adapted for colder weather. Just throw a warm coat or a blazer over them, and that would be that.  That's what I plan to do once it gets colder. Anyhow, all four dresses I'll be sharing with you today are from Rosegal. This is my second collaboration with this site, if you want you can have a look at my first one here. With…

Fashion Illustration Friday: Inspired by Colours of Autum

Time for another Fashion Illustration Friday talk. We'll talk autumn and share some new autumn inspired fashion illustrations & outfits. Autumn is a season with one of the most beautiful colour palettes. Just think about all those gorgeous gold and red leaves! Even the fruits of Autumn are visually stunning, for example the delicious and juicy fruits such as pomegranates and grapes. With so much to appeal to our senses, it's hard not to be appreciative of autumn. It is a stunning season indeed, so small wonder I was inspired to create some fashion art. Scroll down to see and read more.

AUTUMN COLOUR COMBOS TO CONSIDER
Besides enjoying the colours of autumn, I sure love wearing colour in autumn, and that's what I'll write about today. Whether we're talking about accessories or clothes, a bit of colour can take us a long way. Here are some illustrated & photographed colour combos to consider.

HOW TO STYLE TARTAN IN A CASUAL WAY? OUTFIT PROPOSALS + FASHION ILLUSTRATION

I was thinking about why I like tartan pattern so much, when one reason crossed my mind. I figured that it probably has something to do with the history and the culture behind this particular pattern. After all, I always say that traditional and folklore clothing (be it original or reproduced) carries additional value. Traditional patterns can be such an wonderful source of inspiration. Traditional patters have soul to them, one might say. The history of tartan is particularly interesting. Today we mostly associate tartan with Scotland, but according to some historians, tartan like fabrics were used by ancient Celtic populations spreading across the British Isles as early as the sixth and the eight century BC. Well, that one old pattern for sure! However, even if tartan clothes are really as old as ancient Celts, it is the still Scotland that is responsible for tartan we know today. Did you know that different tartan patterns can represent different Scottish families? Something like …
