Art exhibition (Dubrovnik's Intermezzo) / Izložba slika (Dubrovački intermezzo) Josip Škerlj.
I
visited Josip Škerlj's art exhibition four days ago, i.e. on the very day it
was opened. I happened to find myself there a few hours before the official
opening ceremony. I'm glad it turned out that way because it gave me an
opportunity to view this amazing collection of paintings without being rushed.
There was nobody there at the time, no other visitors, just me and my husband.
So, I took my time. One thing that amazed me is how different all of these
paintings look when you see them from a different perspective. I walked up and
down the gallery like a crazy person just so I can get different views and
perspectives of these paintings. I don't know how to describe it, but every painting felt
magical. Literally every painting undergoes a metamorphosis and changes when
you move to see it from another angle or when the light changes. That is true
art. Pure magic. Paintings that have a soul.
As the name itself implies (Dubrovnik's intermezzo) this exhibition is inspired by Dubrovnik. I'm
a bit obsessed with this city so imagine my joy at seeing paintings that portray
it so beautifully. Dubrovnik is the main inspiration of Croatian painter Josip
Škerlj. I doubt you had the chance to hear of him if you don't live in Croatia,
but here he is rather well known and belongs to a group of painters called Dubrovnik’s colourists. Boy, do they have a way with colour! Nomen est omen, right? Well, in this case it is. Josip usage of colour is exceptional, it is not something you can see everyday. He was born in April, 1941. He lives and works in Dubrovnik. He is remarkably profilic painter and he tried his hand at writing as well (but I must admit I haven't read any of his works so far). This exhibition
will be opened until 17th of May. There is no entrance fee. If you find
yourself in Mostar, feel free to visit it in Aluminium Gallery. When it comes
to photographs of the outfit, they were taken on a Spanish Square in Mostar.
Thank you for reading.
On pripada grupi znanoj kao Dubrovački koloristi. Oni doista imaju poseban dar i viđenje boje. Nomen est omen kažu, a u ovom slučaju ta poslovica vrijedi. Živi i radi u Dubrovniku.

DeleteWhat a wonderful treat it must've been to have the gallery all to yourself especially when you're viewing the work of an artist you admire so much.. You can really take your time that way to fully enjoy and savor each piece of art. Dubrovnik's use of color does look outstanding as does his brushwork.

thank you Tin:) I love this bag too:).

Dear Ivana,
ReplyDeleteI always make the same experience. It can be the most crowded town in the world, but if you are going to a gallery with modern art, almost everytime there are no visitors ;-) Love it!
