Can a book be considered a fashion accessory? (Fashion illustration of the day: Two girls reading together, two outfits and two books)

Image
I love how this fashion illustration of mine turned out. It might be immodest of me to say so, but I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere with them. Can it be that I'm starting to see developments in terms of my illustrating style? I do hope so. Anyhow, with this illustration I'm combining two things that I, quite possibly, love the most: reading and painting.  I thought it might be fun. It was.  Is book the ultimate fashion accessory? Well, if you want to look smart, it probably won't hurt. Yesterday (here on blog ) I was all about how we need to embrace the digital and audio formats when it comes to reading, but today I'm sharing an illustration of two girls reading together and doing it the traditional way. Hey, wait! Wasn't that also the subject of the unnamed watercolour painting I shared yesterday? Yes, it was. You see, recently something caught my eye. I have noticed, in the background of one rather well known 16th century painting, an interes...

How to read more and/or transform yourself into a person that reads on daily basis? Learn these 7 reading strategies and start reading more right now!

1. Don't limit yourself to one format (try out digital and audio books). Nobody loves the old-fashion reading method more than yours truly, for there is nothing quite like holding a book in your hand. This physical aspect of reading can be quite important. Not to say anything about the aesthetic aspect. There are some incredibly beautiful book editions out there. I mean just beholding such gorgeous books can be rewarding in itself. However, there is no denying that modern reading has many benefits to offer. Audio-books can allow you to read while you're commuting or cleaning the house ( I will get into more detail later). Similarly, digital books (eBooks) allow you to access them at any time, you can easily download a book to your cell phone and read away ( no need to buy a kindle if you don't want to but I will get to that later). Really, audio and digital books are both affordable and practical. Besides, if you're opting for classical literature, you won...

How to repaint a vase using acrylic paints ? (DIY project of the day)- Let's get creative #1

Image
How to repaint/paint a vase using acrylic paints?  It is actually rather simple. All you need is a brush and a tube of acrylic paint. I wouldn't recommend using water, there is no need for it. You will need water only to clean the brush (or you can use a sponge). The process itself is super simple: just apply the paint on the vase and wait for it to dry. Acrylic paints dry quickly, so you won't have to wait for long. It is one of the easiest DIY projects out there. However, here are some points considering these kind of paints that you want to have in mind, if you decide to follow along. Benefits of using acrylic paint: - it dries quickly, - it is fairly easy to use, - it can be applied to different materials, - it can be used in a variety of ways. Downsides to using acrylic paint: - it can come off with time or when there is heavy handling involved, - it may not look professional or very polished, - it offers no or little protection ( for...

Why talking about chronic/invisible/ incurable illness can be difficult and challenging at best of times?

Image
Talking about chronic and/or invisible illnesses can be a real  challenge To say that talking about chronic illnesses is a challenge is probably an understatement. At times, I find the whole process of talking about it rather nerve-wracking for a variety of reasons. Both as a person who suffers from a chronic illness and a person who knows a lot of people who suffer from chronic illnesses I find this theme very difficult at times and really challenging at the best of time. This text will be written mostly from a perspective of someone living with a chronic illness, but it will by no means be a representative for everyone. I’m still trying to figure out things myself. Talking about chronic and/ or invisible illness can be really hard. I’ve agonized over this theme a lot. Believe it or not, mostly it is not about how it will make me feel. I think that I often end up avoiding this subject not so much for myself, but because I worry how it will make others feel.  If you...
