TRAVEL WITH MY ART #2: BAY MALA STINIVA, ISLAND HVAR, CROATIA

Image
Hello readers! Yesterday I started  a new series on my blog called Travel With my Art . The idea is to take you places with my art by sharing my location illustrations and paintings. Today I'm sharing an acrylic painting of a bay Mala Stiniva on island Hvar, Croatia. I used mixed media paper from a sketchbook to make this painting.  Both the paper and the acrylics paints are from brand Royal Talens (not sponsored).  I used my own photograph as a reference. Scroll bellow. If you remember I already posted about this magical bay on my blog, you can read those posts   here and here .  WORK IN PROGRESS PHOTOGRAPHS If I remember correctly, made this landscape painting while listening to an audiobook. I'm not sure how much time I spent on it, maybe a few hours. It was a relatively quick landscape painting. I might redo it some day and make a more detailed version of it. This was a nice scene to paint. I'm not sure have I done these gorgeous colours justice with ...

TRAVEL WITH MY ART, PALERMO (SICILY)

Image
With so many people in lockdown and unable to travel, I thought it might be fun to do some art travel. I will take you places with my paintings and art. Maybe it will even become a regular feature on my blog. This is a painting I made more than a year ago but I haven't posted it before. It depicts a beach scene in Palermo, Sicily. As in many of my paintings, the attention is on traditional fishing boats. A very long time ago, I lived and worked on this magical island. Maybe I will write more about it some day. Today post will be short because I'm really low on energy. My iron levels are always low but right now they are lower then usual and I'm feeling it. Scroll down to see the progress and the details.  SICILIA, PALERMO-DETAILS I made this painting based on a photograph a friend sent to me while he was visiting Sicily. If I remember correctly, the photograph was taken somewhere in Palermo. The medium is acrylics on cardboard. More specifically, I painted this landscape o...

AKIKO WEARING MY FASHION ILLUSTRATION T-SHIRT!

Image
Hello! How are you doing? Today I feel very happy. Earlier today, I saw a post on Akiko's blog Kimono Snack in which she modelled a t-shirt with my fashion illustration . I love how she styled this t-shirt. Akiko wore it with a beautiful blue cardigan (that I illustrated in one of my Inspired by posts ) and chic jeans. It's so cool to see somebody wearing my fashion illustration. Akiko also framed a few illustrations I sent to her .  So, that was really neat to see as well. It is always wonderful to see my art hanging in a new home.  KIMONO SNACK BLOG This design you can see on the t-shirt is a combination of a traditional (coloured pencil) illustration and digital art. Above you can see the painting process and how I got to this fantasy illustration. This design is available in my Redbubble shop under the name 'Take Me to the Moon'.  I think I was a bit inspired by Sinatra's hit 'Fly Me to the Moon', one of my favourite songs performed by this legendary s...

OIL PASTELS VS. WATERCOLOUR PENCILS (SPLIT, FIRULE BEACH)

Image
If you remember in my last posts I shared a seascape sketch with you. Today I will show you the completed version. I did complete this watercolour pencil sketch the same day I started it. There was also a version I made with oil pastels. In case anyone is wondering, I don't have these two with me anymore. I shipped some of my art to one (amateur) art gallery yesterday. The watercolour landscape I'm sharing with you today was among the paintings sent while the pastel version of this scene was sent to a friend.  Both of them were sketched on a lovely sunny day on Firule beach in Split (it has gotten colder in the meantime). I  have actually only had that one day at the beach so far.  WATERCOLOUR PENCILS- THE FINISHED VERSION The version with watercolour pencils turned out alright, but I think I might do another one. Isn't it interesting how different this landscape looks once water is applied to it? As I explained, I might do another version of this landscape some time in ...

PHOTODIARY: EN PLEIN AIR SKETCHING

Image
Today I took advantage of wonderful sunny weather to do some en plein air sketching in Split city, Croatia.  Most of the art projects I have done since arriving to Croatia have been in collaboration with my six year old god-daughter because she's really into art. I have also been spending time with my other god-daughter but with her I've done mostly reading activities. However, today I went for a walk alone and did some sketching. The weather was so warm that it felt like summer. The beach I sketched is called Firule and what you can se in the distance is island Čiovo. I drew this seascape with watercolour pencils,  so I yet have to colour this sketch. I hope I don't ruin it.  I do like this composition. What made me choose this spot to sketch were the colours. I was fascinated by the colour of the sea and the rocks. Moreover, I really like the background. Fingers crossed it all turns out well. I do enjoy working outdoors and it is fortunate that I live in a warm climate ...

FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: TWO PENCIL STUDIES OF A MODEL

Image
Hello! Time for another Friday Fashion Illustration.   Today I'll share with you two pencils drawings I made using a photograph of a beautiful curvy model Ivana Miliošević as a reference. I drew two pencil illustrations of her. One illustration was a pencil portrait practice and the other illustration was a body study. I made these two illustrations just for practice, but I decided to share them because I documented the WIP (work in process) with photographs and I know some of you find it interesting. I used a photograph from a catalogue as a reference (the name of the photographer wasn't listed in the magazine, or at any rate I couldn't find it, perhaps because it was a collage of photographs that was printed on that page in that magazine). Scroll down to read about my art process. On the very bottom of the page you will be able to read an article with some of my thoughts on body positivity (if that sort of thing interests you).  PENCIL SKETCH- THE PROCESS Bellow you can s...
