8 MONTHS LIVING IN JELSA ON ISLAND HVAR

Happy third day of summer! Greetings from Jelsa. Has it really been 8 months since I moved to Jelsa on island Hvar (Croatia)? Yes, it has been that long. Sometimes it seems  that the time has just flown by and at other times I feel like I have always lived on this island. There are both pros and cons of living on an island, but I absolutely love it here. It might have something to do with the fact that I have roots here. As one nun from the Italian movie La Grande Bellezza wisely said: 'Roots are important.'

8 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN JELSA
It is hard to limit myself to only eight things I love about living in Jelsa, but I'll try to get the main points across and keep things on the shorter side.
1. EVERYTHING IS SO CLOSE BY/  THE ABILITY TO WALK EVERYWHERE
Don't you just love being able to walk everywhere? Jelsa is small and everything seems to be within reach. From the stores to cultural sights, everything is only a short walk away.
2. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS & THE FACT JELSA IS SO PHOTOGENIC
Jelsa really has some amazing views. The kind of views that make you stare in awe and eat your pizza while sitting on a window. Yes, those kind of 'over the top' beautiful views!
Jelsa makes for a perfect photography background. It is simply a dream place to be for a fashion blogger. I'm not a real fashion blogger in the sense that it is not my job, but I sure enjoy living in such a stunning village. My posts are often as much about the location as they are about the outfit I'm wearing, so Jelsa is the place to be. If you want to visit a place that is photo worthy, look no further. Jelsa has a lot of gorgeously photogenic areas you can visit.
3.  CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL BUILDINGS, CHURCHES AND A NICE LIBRARY
There are quite a few cultural and historical sights in Jelsa. This city also has a nice little library, sometimes that is really important for bookworms like myself. Furthermore, there are wooden cupboards all over Jelsa in which you can donate or take books. Such a great book recycling system!

4. BOAT WATCHING  BECAUSE  I LOVE PORTS
Who needs people watching when you have boat watching? People watching is really a thing only in summer, during the colder months there aren't that many people to watch. The boats, however, are always here. All kinds of boats, from traditional fishing boats to mega yachts. Croatia is one of the top countries in the world when it comes to nautical tourism, so boats are a common sight.

5. AMAZING WALKS, HIKES AND PATHWAYS
Jelsa is a great destination if you enjoy walking. Besides exploring the obvious and by that I mean the sea paths (because sea is life), I also love to walk through bungalows, camps and parks. There is just something calming about those location, not to mention that social distancing is a breeze here since there aren't that many people to start with.
6. CRYSTAL CLEAR SEA & FISH WATCHING
The sea here is so crystal clear that you can watch fish without any diving aid. I love fish and sea life watching. It is such a great way to relax and learn something new as well. It is like watching a documentary about marine life but actually being there and seeing it with your eyes.
7. PEACE AND QUIET,  SAFETY, THE SLOW PACE OF LIFE AND ALL THE OTHER PERKS OF LIVING IN A SMALL MEDITERRANEAN VILLAGE
I do like how peaceful Jelsa is. Sure, when tourists arrive, you can hear music at night and so on, but it is still very quiet. Besides, Jelsa is very safe. There is virtually no crime here. The pace of life feels slower. There are definitely many perks to living in a Mediterranean village.
8. BEING ABLE TO DINE AND ENJOY COFFEE RIGHT NEXT TO THE SEA
Sea is life. Being able to enjoy a cup of coffee right next to the sea is priceless to me. I know that applies to most port cities and villages, but in Jelsa you can really do that in piece.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Stay safe and take care.

  1. I am a bit Jealous Ivana! Jelsa looks so dreamy being seaside with a stunning landscape. It is wonderful to have the peacefulness of the off season along with the people watching of the busy season. Being so walkable makes this seem like a perfect place to live. I would adore watching the boats. I also love those gentle sounds they make at port with slight water movements.

  10. I am absolutely sure that there are far worse places in the world to be living in, especially at this time. How magically picturesque it is. Indeed, this is a photographer's - and blogger's - dream location. The blue of the sea is really incredible. And who wouldn't love to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee in such a beautiful location, right next to the sea? xxx

  11. I live on an island too, but it's huge compared to yours - however, many of the things that you love apply to my hometown too.

I take exception to your statement, "I'm not a real fashion blogger" because you don't make money at it. That doesn't mean you're not a real fashion blogger! I have never earned a cent from blogging, and I would definitely call myself a real fashion blogger. ;-P

I love your pictures, Ivana, they are so peaceful and calm. I hope you're having a good week.

  13. Hello again Ivana, I'm catching up with blog posts.

This is so nice, I'd love to visit this island thanks for your posts and you're so blessed by having the chance to living in new cities, take advantage of this place as much as you can, not only for the professional opportunities but also for the personals :)

Good to know you can walk to almost everywhere and that you're able to live culture and art in many ways. That's one of the coolest parts of living in small European cities and in particular I don't miss car, I feel like walking has become my favorite activity since I live in Barcelona (which is not big if we compare it to American cities).

PS: The last photo looks like something that could appear in a fashion magazine! I'll copy this look :)
