Watercolour (Ships in a port) / Akvarel (Brodovi u luci)

I always loved ports. The infinite sea that seems to be calling out to us. To a traveller (or anyone suffering from wanderlust) every ship looks like Noah’s ark. A vessel to our dreams.  If you love sea travel, you probably also love ports. No wonder that Joseph Conrad was a love at a first read for me.  He always wrote so beautifully about the sea. I came back from Split today but while I was there I haven’t even had the time to go for a stroll. I miss those long walks by the sea. I did manage to buy presents for Saint Lucia (known in English also as saint Lucy). I will write about the custom related to this day some other time because tonight I’m too tired.

I’m not sure about the name of the painting that inspired this watercolour of mine. It is just something we did at art class. Painting reproductions is good practice, I would say. I think I have learned a few things so far. Speaking of this painting, one of the art teacher there showed me how to make the colours in the distance less intense. She literally washed this painting in the sink and removed (with water) a few layers of paint in the background. This made the colour in the distance appear paler and less intense, which in turns adds dept to the painting. How do you like it? My husband wanted to frame it, but I don't like an idea of framing a reproduction. I have enough painting framed at it is- it is more walls that I need. This will be resolved quickly, if as planned this Spring we move into our new home.

Uvijek sam voljela luke. Volite li putovanja morem, vjerovatno volite i luke. Nedostaju mi te duge šetnje uz more. No, uspjela sam kupiti poklone za svetu Luciju (u Dalmaciji često zvanu sveta Luce).

  1. Paintings of the sea are beautiful, you know I love being by the sea, why do you not do your own scenery so you are not worried for framing a reproduction? There are very beautiful scenaries in Split that you could do 💙💙💙
    Have a lovely week sweetie

  9. Stunning work of art, Ivana! I've a painting somewhat similar to this hanging in our clubhouse; our apt name is Casablanca. Guess the artwork comes from its name :)

VISITING HVAR TOWN IN WINTER PART TWO

Hello dear readers and/or fellow bloggers. Today I'm back with the part two of my visit to Hvar city. Today I'll show you a bit more of this city. This time I'm taking you a bit further away, to fully explore the beautiful promenade this town has to offer. If you take a close look, you'll be able to spot all the historical attractions, such as the fortress of Hvar, the city cathedral and so on in the background. The walking areas on both sides of the city are simply stunning, with lots of tropic and Mediterranean greenery among which you will notice palm trees, giant agava plants and cacti.  How's life treating you? I've been feeling under the weather. I have a nasty throat infection (hard thing to recover from when you talk for a living) and I've been down with fever for the last few days but I haven't missed a single day at work because this is such a busy period for me and I don't see how I can take any days off. I'm drinking ginger tea by t…

READING UPDATE: R. ZELANZY, K. HOSSEINI AND ARTO PAASILINA

It has been a while since my last reading update, hasn't it? I love writing book reviews and you seem to like reading them so I'm back with a new reading update. Today I'll share book reviews for three very different novels with you. The first one is a science fiction novel written by two North American writers. This novel doesn't take itself too seriously and is a fun read. The second book recommendation is a bestseller: an emotional novel  by an Afghan-American writer and doctor.  The third novel I reviewed a dark comedy novel by a Finish author. I'm also going to show you a few ways to wear a cherry print dress in winter. Scroll down to see and read more!

IF AT FAUST YOU DON'T SUCCEED BY ROGER ZELANZY AND ROBERT SHECKLEY 4/5 If at Faust You Don't Succeed is a religious satire of sorts, so it might be offensive to some who are easily offended. That being said, I think it's a great novel. I do like how Roger can make fun of religious concepts but at the …

VISIT BAY PRAPATNA ON ISLAND HVAR WITH ME!

Exploring island Hvar is turning into a new hobby of mine. I love discovering new destinations on this island and sharing them with you. Today I'm taking you to bay Prapatna. Located about 10 kilometers from Jelsa, this beautiful bay has it all: a stunning beach, wonderful views, lots of greenery and crystal clear water. There are two main ways to get to this bay: one is by car (just take a turn from a main road) and the other is by boat.
