THE DISPOSSESSED, A NOVEL BY URSULA K. LE GUIN (BOOK REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION)

Image
Greetings fellow Earthlings! In this post, I will review The Dispossessed , a novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. This Utopian science fiction novel is one of the most critically acclaimed and best known Le Guin's works. Published in 1974, this novel won the Hugo, Nebula and Logus Awards for best novel in 1975. The Dispossessed i s a part of Le Guin's Hainish Cycle, but (like the other books in the Hanish Cycle) it can be read independently from other books.  I've been looking forward to reading this novel for a long time. I was made aware of it years ago, but I didn't actively search for it. Sometimes I like to wait for books to come to me. So far in my life, books have often arrived just in right time for me to be able to fully appreciate them. This cemented a belief in me that as long as I frequent libraries and bookshops regularly, the right book for me will somehow find me. Sure, sometimes it works the other way around and I just look or ask for a book. However, there is ...

TRAVEL WITH MY ART #27: MALA STINIVA BAY IN SUMMER (ISLAND HVAR, CROATIA)

Image
Hello dear readers and blogging colleagues! Time for another 'Travel With My Art' post. Regular readers of my blog know this is a regular art feature on this (digital) place to call my own. I basically created it to post art inspired by places I visit. It is a fun way to travel (digitally) with the help of my art. In this post, I shall share a drawing of Mala Stiniva bay (island Hvar, Croatia) with you.  The medium is watercolour pencils on mixed media paper. I used watercolour pencils to drew this seascape, but this time I didn't add water. My husband liked the way it looked, so it has remained a drawing for now.  I have even framed it and all. However, I might change my mind and add water eventually. Alternatively, I might just paint another version of this Mala Stiniva illustration. I think this landscape would look fantastic painted with acrylic paints. Maybe you have noticed that I prefer painting to drawing? HR Pozdrav dragi čitatelji i kolege blogeri! Vrijeme je z...

A DIY STATEMENT FAUX LEATHER NECKLACE (UPCYCLING)

Image
In this post, I will show you a DIY statement necklace I (re)made. Made from recycled faux leather, a satin cord and sewing rhinestones, this statement necklace is a great example of upcyling and sustainability. There's much talk of sustainability in fashion these days. What is more sustainable than upcycling and recycling? DIY accessories have the added benefit of being unique. When you design something and make it with your own hands, you can be sure it is 'one of a kind' item. Recently I have (re)made and made a few necklaces like this one. If you look around your home, you'll probably find some materials that can be used to make recycled accessories. Why not try making your own accessories from recycled materials? Why not make your own unique necklaces, brooches, earrings and so on? My history of making necklaces goes way back to my early teenage years and to some extent even to my childhood, but today we shall speak only of faux leather necklaces. Honestly, I woul...

A PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN WITH LONG DARK HAIR (WATERCOLOUR PENCILS)

Image
First of all, thank you all for your kind messages on my last post. In this post, I will share a new watercolour portrait sketch with you. I didn't use a reference for this one, I just sketched it from my head. The idea was to practice 3/4 side portrait. I feel like I need all the portrait practice I can get. I remind myself that quick portrait practice still counts.  I'm still not very focused on portrait making, but I do like doing these quick portrait sketches. I know I will need to invest a lot more time and effort if I want my portraits painting to start looking as good as my landscape paintings, but I feel these quick sketches help me stay in shape until I set aside enough time to get better at portrait art. Right now, I still don't have a definite style when it comes to portraits. Anyhow, this one was actually supposed to remain just a quick sketch, but at one point I just decided to finish it. So, I added more detail and basically turned it into a quick portrait. ...
