Stolac Medieval Fair (part two) / Stolačka Tarča (drugi dio)

If you missed the first part of my post, be sure to check it out here. In the first part of this post, I spoke about the medieval fair that took place last weekend in Stolac. Today I'd like to take the opportunity to show you the fortress itself. I already stressed that the views from this historical fortress are nothing short of amazing, but today I'll talk a bit about the history of this fortress. First things first, though. A few words about the Stolac city.

STOLAC - AN UNESCO PROTECTED CITY

Stolac is located at the far east of region Herzegovina and it is a part of a touristic route. The area surrounding the present day Stolac city has been populated since prehistorical times, which only makes sense, given the natural beauty and the climate benefits of this location. 3, 500 year old material evidence of urban life were found here, so that says something of the kind of urban tradition this place can boast of. Through its rich history, many have called Stolac its home, from ancient Illyrian tribes to Romans and Slavs.

STOLAC FORTRESS

Stolac fortress has a very complex system of walls and towers, and according to the UNESCO site it is hard to precisely determine the exact stages of its construction. The original design of the fortress dates to prehistorical times, but the fortress grew with time.  Many have worked on it through the long centuries, as different Western and Eastern kingdoms fought over the right to colonize and exploit this rich land. Ancient civilizations ( Illyrians and Romans), noble Slavic families, Ottoman and Austrian Hungarian Empire, all of them left a mark on this area, turning it into a unique historical site.  Besides the rich history, this place can also boast of natural beauty. Stolac fortress is surely worth a visit.

This last photograph was taken as we exited the fortress. You can estimate the height and the climb it took. As you see, it is not terribly high and the climb isn't difficult at all, but even if it was higher the view would be more than worth it. I heard that you can also drive to the top with a car, but not during the duration of the fair. So, if you visit Stolac keep that in mind in case you don't care for hiking. I will consider doing just that, in case I visit Stolac again before the next fair. As Stolac fortress is truly the perfect place to hold this medieval fair, I do plan to return here next year, both to attend the fair and see the fortress again. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

  16. The design of the Stolac fortress is very interesting. It clearly took an immense amount of work to build. The stones that some parts of it were built with look massive. The view of the valley and village from where you were standing in the photos above is lovely., and the ruffled blouse and white-trimmed blazer you were wearing look very pretty.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.

TRYING OUT NEW HIKING TRACK (MOUNTAIN OASIS RUJIŠTE, HERZEGOVINA)

Today I'm taking you to Rujište, a mountain oasis located only a short drive away from Mostar city. This beautiful area is located on mountain Prenj. Nicknamed the Herzegovina Himalayas, mountain Prenj boosts of peaks over two thousand meters high. We didn't go all the way to the top this time, though. Instead, we payed another visit to Snow House (Snježna kuća) hotel. This time I shared my lunch with the hotel's cat, not the dog (for the yellow dog I made friends with last time was nowhere to be seen). In addition, we tried the new recreational hiking track. I'm happy to report that my review of this track will be a positive one. The length of the track is around one kilometer, the climb is approximately seventy meters so it is perfect for recreational hikers.  Moreover, there are workout tables and instructions throughout the track (for those who really want to get serious about their fitness). Weekends are a great time to get back to shape (or at least try to). Spe…

10 STYLE LESSONS LEARNED FROM MALENA/ MONICA BELLUCCI

With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily.  The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I…

NATURE MONUMENT IN VICINITY OF MOSTAR CITY, HERZEGOVINA

14 years an expat in Bosnia and Herzegovina and I only discovered this place a few weeks ago. In fact, the two of us discovered it by chance. Event my significant other (a local and the reason why I moved to Herzegovina in the first place) didn't know about this place. You can find this amazing natural monument in vicinity of Mostar city.  Here is the spot where river Neretva divides in two, forming a pool like surface running on one end and a quick river on other. The same river, but two completely different scenes, running side by side. I hope to be able to visit this spot again some time soon, it's truly magnificent. We were fortunate in that summer lasted a bit longer here, so many early autumn days were very sunny and warm (as you can see for yourself).

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT
Not too long I have written about different ways to style a floral dress for every season (21 WAY TO STYLE A MINI FLORAL DRESS). Moreover, I admitted to being something of a enthusiast when it comes…
