How To Wear Socks With Heels? An Outfit Proposal + Mostar Links

Lately I've been really into wearing socks with heels. I think it's such a cute combo. In addition, it is a practical one. I don't typically wear closed heels without tights or socks of some kind. Heels with sandals are another matter but even sandals worn with socks are becoming trendy. I, myself, usually wear heels with tights. As much as I love tights and leggings, I don't plan to ever wear them together so leggings and socks it will have to be. I love how these striped socks look with this pair of chunky heels so I often pair them together. My advice for wearing heels and socks is to always pay attention to how they look worn together. You might find the most adorable socks out there, but if they clash with your heels, it just won't look good. The colours don't need to match, you can do a bit of colour blocking but styles should match. First of all, you should think about what is the look you're trying to achieve. You don't want to wear your gym socks with your fancy stiletto heels, right? Unless you're going for a edgy look, it is best to avoid gym socks altogether. Instead of that, look for socks with feminine details or colours. They should be a better match for your favourite pair of heels. My outfit proposal consists of a pink long sleeved top, checkered vintage mini skirt, a pair of leggings, and a pair of heels worn with socks. The accessories for this outfit are simple: a DIY necklace and a bag. I like the colours in this outfit: fuchia and black seems like a nice combo.  I was actually quite hot in this outfit, but sometimes I purposely wear long sleeves to protect myself against the sun. I'm not sure is that such a good idea anymore. Now my face is darker than the rest of my body. Maybe the sun protection cream I'm using is not doing its job? Or maybe it is just that I tan so easily?

Truth be told, these balloons weren't put there for me, they were there because a new store got opened, and I just happened to pass by them while I was looking for a present for my lovely friend Natalia Lialina (check out her blog here). Perhaps I should have saved these balloon photographs for when my blog turns ten. What do you think? Maybe I can still use them when the times comes.  I've been blogging for a bit more than five years (in case anyone cares) and seeing these photographs made me think how cool it would be to celebrate a 10th blogging anniversary. Do you celebrate your blog's birthday? My blog birthday is around Christmas so I often forget about it because with all the cooking and everything, Christmas time it's always such a hectic time. My own birthday is in April. This year I didn't really mentioned it here on my blog because I didn't have the time to celebrate my birthday in a big way. I baked a strawberry cake and had a drink (not that kind of drink! natural juice kind of drink) with my husband on our larger than life balcony and that was it. I. Anyway, if you scroll down, you'll be able to see some photographs from Mostar's old city centre. If you ever happen to visit Mostar, you'll probably go an see the historical centre of town, right? Well, when you do remember this word of advice: whatever you do, don't wear heels. I actually didn't plan to come here, but then my husband remembered that his friend has a gift shop right next to the famous gift shop so we had to go in. Walking in heels on a slippery stone pathway was challenging to say the least.

Isn't Mostar adorable? The historical city center was full of tourists that day. You can probably find tourists there at any time, but during spring and summer their numbers obviously increase. This area is very touristy. That day I felt like the summer was in the air. We had a very sudden transition from winter to what feels more like summer than like spring. I'm still trying to adjust. As often I'm struggling with fever (one of the symptoms of my immune disease) so I feel like I'm going to burst in flames. Not that I'm complain. It's just life, we all suffer one way or another. Anyway, we managed to find my husband's friend shop (we have never visited it before). It was nice because we got the chance to see him. He is currently recovering from his second brain tumor operation and seems to be doing well. Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery. He showed me some paintings he had soln in the past and they're really good! I didn't even know he paints. Anyway, we bough some souvenirs from them and headed back.

I'm based in Mostar, so this city hardly needs an introduction. It is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As the name implies, Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two regions: Bosnia (continental climate) and Herzegovina (Mediterranean climate). Bosnia is not the name of the country, it's only the name of one of its region so the correct name to use is Bosnia and Herzegovina (or BIH for short). The largest city in Bosnia region is also the capital of this state: Sarajevo. The largest city of Herzegovina's region is Mostar. Because you get to see Mostar so often on my blog, by now you've probably noticed a mix of different influences when it comes to its architecture. Like many European cities,  during its rich history, Mostar was under rule of numerous empires, and you can definitely see the traces of that, from Australian Empire to Ottomans, every empire lefts its trace. Many find this mix of styles appealing and I would tend to agree. It is a very beautiful city as such. Part of it is due to the nature that surrounds it, the mountains and the famous Neretva river but city as itself is also lovely. There is definitely some room for improvement when it comes to maintaining public spaces, though. I often hear the locals complaining that the city isn't as clean as it used to be back in the day. Anyway, that is what they are always telling me. I don't know what it looked like before, but I think it looks really nice right now. Mostar is sometimes called the city of light, mostly I think, because of the strong Mediterranean sun. It is definitely a city that is bathed in sunshine most of time. If you decide to visit, you need to consider that and  be sure to bring your sun protection with you! If your sightseeing schedule is planned during the hottest hours of the day (11 am- 3 pm), I advise you to consider wearing a hat of some sort (or umbrella) to protect yourself against the sun. If you are visiting on your own, remember that it is best to avoid the sun in the period between 11 am to 3 pm. I'm a Mediterranean born and raised. If I make a warning about the sun, then the sun is strong. I'll make a more detailed travel post about Mostar once I find the time to put it together.

  4. Hello Ivana, hope you're having a nice day! First of all thanks for your nice feedback on my latest post, really enjoyed reading it :)

Oooh at first I thought it was your birthday but then I saw the 10 number haha, but you really spot a good place to shoot this nice outfit. Wearing socks with shoes is such a difficult thing to do but you managed to pull off a nice outfit that has a cosmopolitan vibe, actually this kind of combination remind me of Miu Miu, this brand (I remember your illustration of the runway) is always using this combo in her outfits and the result is so dreamy *___*

By the way, I didn't know that your birthday was on April so CONGRATULATIONS, my birthday is also on April but as you I didn't have time to make a proper announce on Internet hahaha, but I celebrated working so that's enough :)

    Best dear!

    Bellissime foto!
    Baci!

I love your colourful outfit, the top and necklace are so nice together and lovely with the skirt. I don't wear socks and sandals, but I think you picked a fun pair to wear with your heels! :)

Hope you are having a great week :) I'm enjoying our cooler autumn weather, it's a lovely change from the heat we've had this year!

  13. You don't have to convince me. I've always liked the look of socks with heels and I think it opens up so many styling options. But you're right that the type of sock does matter. I always think of a dress sock with a fun pattern maybe but not gym socks :) Your outfit is lovely and you make a great statement for the look. Happy belated birthday Ivana! You would be a wonderful tourism ambassador for Mostar!

  14. I'm sorry to hear about your fever and I hope you are feeling better as you read this comment. I didn't know you're based in Mostar, and it is in BIH! How curiously interesting! I know about BIH from what I hear in the local news back in the day growing up. I only came to know about Mostar from you. Thank you for telling us a lot of interesting historical details about your home. I think you look vibrant and beautiful in this outfit. It looks as though you're a flower blooming in the sun. Kudos to you for being able to walk in heels in those pathways! The scenery is gorgeous and I want to thank you for showing us a peek of green and your lovely smile :D x

  15. I don't think I've ever worn socks with heels, just with flat shoes and leggings! You make it look good. Thanks for explaining about Bosnia and Herzegovena- I thought they were two separate countries as when we stopped on our way to Dubrovnik from Split, we stopped in Herzegovena for our break!x

  16. i´m on your side with this line "I, myself, usually wear heels with tights." i always prefers tights for socks - i think i have just one pair of socks in my closet. i always wearing nylon tights, but these sockings style is very interesting. on the web there are many examples how to wear socks with heels and i must say - I LOVE IT!!! i dont try it on myself already, but i think i should to this very quick.

i like your style how you paired all this cool fashion pieces together. and your socks are a real eyecatcher.

i would love to see more examples from you to wear socks and heels!!!
