How To Vacation At Home? 11 Easy Ways To Relax At Home

I first heard about a home vacation years ago. I remember it so clearly,  I was watching TV and there was this interview with an elderly lady. This lady seemed so happy describing the joys of home vacation that the whole concept just got stuck in my head. Despite the fact I was only about ten years old at the time, I could see that taking a home vacation was a good idea. I don't remember why this particular lady was unable to go somewhere for vacation, perhaps she had to take care of a family member, perhaps it was something else, but she seemed so happy to have worked it out and I felt happy for her. I don't know whether she was the one to pioneer it, but I'm guessing not. This concept isn't anything new, and this is hardly surprisingly, as there are many reasons why a person might not be able to go on a vacation. Even if you have just came back from a vacation, you might want to make the experience and the memories linger. Even if you have a vacation planned, it doesn't mean you shouldn't go on a home vacation. There are many advantages to taking a home vacation. It is perfectly safe, even for people with health problems. Moreover, it is something you can do whenever you feel like it. You can go on a 'half an hour vacation' or a 'weekend vacation'. It's up for you to decide what your home vacation might look like.

11 Easy Tips For A Fun Home Vacation

1. Make Time For Yourself

Examine your daily routine and see what you can cut out. It may not always be possible to free out an entire afternoon or take a day off, but you should be able to clear an hour at least once a month. Maybe you can sacrifice some TV time? Take a look at your daily routine and see if there is anything you could do in less time. For example, perhaps you work out daily. Nothing will happen if you take one day off or if you complete your fitness routine a bit early. I think that it is even recommended to avoid excess working out because it gives our muscles time to recover. Making time for ourselves is hard, but  it is not impossible. You can always cheat a little. Postpone washing your hair a day or two. Be creative, do what you need to do, but secure some time. Naturally, an addition benefit of a home vacation is that you don't have to always plan it, sometimes you can take advantage of a postponed meeting.

2. Turn Down Your Phone Or Put It On Silent Mode

What is the easiest thing you can do to calm down and distress? How about not checking your phone every five minutes? Instead of your phone, focus on something else. Allow yourself some time to breathe. You will probably not be able to get into vacation mode if you keep answering your calls, replying to messages and checking your notifications.

3. Work With What You Have

Make the most out of your home, apartment or garden. Find a place where you feel relax. If you have a balcony, why not make most out of it? If you don't have a balcony, perhaps you can make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and sit by the window. Open the window and breathe some fresh air. Lay on the bed or put a blanket on the floor and make a picnic. Do what works for you. Once you have chosen the location, your home holiday can begin.

4. Make A Toast

Get your champagne glasses out. Any other fancy glass will do just as nicely. Not that you shouldn't do it, if you fancy a glass of champagne, it can be a glass of champagne. It is about creating that holiday vibe. Pour yourself some water. You don't need to have a drink to have a drink, if you know what I mean. Staying hydrated is always important, so make sure you drink enough water during your home vacation. I drank a glass of water in a champagne glass ! Once you have your drink, make a toast to life. Allow your mind to detox from the constant information detox.

5. You Don't Need To Go Solo

If you don't live alone, that's no problem. Invite your partner, relative and/ or kids to join you on 'your vacation'. You can play a game with them. For example, many families play card games or something of the sort on their vacation. Why not try to do it at home for once? Why not relax together?

6. Grab Something To Read

Reading is always a good idea. Whether it be a deep philosophical novel or a magazine, it is good to rest your eyes from the screen. Moreover, if you want to get into holiday and vacation mode, why not read about some country? One of the great benefits of travel is that it allows us to experience other cultures and learn more about them. However, we can also learn about a country through reading its writers, reading about it and familiarizing ourselves with its history and culture.

7. Cook A Home Made Meal And Create A Restaurant Experience

Why not set the table in a new way and recreate the restaurant experience. Pretend that you're dining in a restaurant far far away. If you don't know how to cook, you can always order in. The trick is in taking the time to eat and appreciate the food. If you are up for it, you can even try different ethic foods. Recreate a dish from a country you once visited or invent a new one inspired by your own wanderlust. The possibilities are endless.

8. Recreate A Place

If there is a place you really want to visit, why not try to recreate it at home? If all you want is to be at the beach but it is raining outside or there isn't a beach in your town, why not put on a bikini and/or a summer dress, relax on a coach and daydream a little. There is nothing wrong with daydreaming a bit. Imagination is a healthy thing. In addition, recreating a place can be a great challenge for your imagination and creativity.

9. Dress For A Vacation

It might sound odd, but putting on a nice vacation dress can really help us get into the mood. Who says we should wear rags at home? Why not put on a nice dress instead? For my improvised home vacation, I wore two dresses that were sent to me by Zaful site. I think this is my first collaboration  of the sort with this site. Anyway, I choose two floral print dresses and ordered them both in size medium. The package took 15 days to arrive. Both dresses were a good fit and arrived in good condition. The first dress I wore (available here) is a midi mustard floral dress with long sleeves. The label said that the material is mostly cotton (cotton mixed with polyester) but it doesn't feel like a cotton mix. It is not a major let down, as the site clearly cites polyester as the main material so that is what I expected.  The second dress is a white floral print maxi dress with ruffles and a slit cut. I must say that the second dress is even prettier than I imagined it to be (you can order it here). I'm pleased with both of these, the quality is fine, nothing special but the dress do look the same as on the site or least so it seems to me, let me know what you think.

10. Listen To Music To Take Your Mind Of Things

Do you like music? I sure do. I find that listening to music always helps to take me away. To create a holiday experience, why not try listening to some lively music. If you always wanted to listen Cuba, you can search for Cuban radio stations on the Internet. If you want to go to France, you can listen to French songs. Why not try listening to different kind of music and see what works best with recreating a holiday experience?

11.  Just Dance

Dancing is proven to be not only healthy, but also potentially therapeutic. Dance is both a form of exercise and a nice way to relax. When you dance at your home, you don't have to worry about the steps. All you need to do is move your body. This is also a good exercise in self love. I find there is something about dance that makes us accept our bodies and feel good in our skin. Once you have chosen your preferred music, dance like there is not tomorrow, even if you only have 20 minutes to spear. When choosing music you want to listen, you can also consider choosing a type of music you haven't heard before, such as  traditional music.

  5. These are beautiful dresses, although the first one is my favourite! :) It's such good advice too - with two little ones it's hard for us to go places, but the time off we do have is usually spent catching up on things at home, just enjoying swimming in the pool! :)

Hope that you are having a great week so far :)
