TRAVEL WITH MY ART #32: ZAVALA (CROATIA)/CHOOSING A NEW YEAR OUTFIT

Image
Today I'll share a new seascape painting with you. One more post in the 'Travel With My Art' category. This painting was inspired by Zavala on island Hvar (Croatia). It is not nearly as elaborative or challenging as the last piece I shared. The last canvas painting I shared was quite big, measuring 80 cm X 80 cm. This one, on the other hand, is a A4 sized painting. The medium  is acrylic paints on mixed media paper. I think it'll look quite cute framed. I haven't decided what I will do with it yet. The aim for this painting was to capture the beauty of the Adriatic sea. I wasn't trying to go for a detailed or hyper-realistic feel. This is more an impressionist piece than a realistic one. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. It is a motif I always come back to: the sea!  I think I took these photographs of me holding the painting back in Summer. I'm wearing a red dress with a floral skirt over it and a pair of boho heels. Time really flies, doesn...

A WEDDING PROPOSAL / TRAVEL WITH MY ART #31: CAPE PLANKA

Image
Happy holidays everyone! How are you doing? Today I'll present a new painting of mine. This painting was a commission. I do accept commissions at times and I generally enjoy them. A commissioned painting is a painting ordered from an artist. There are many reasons why somebody might order a commissioned painting. It might be a present, for example a wedding present or even a present for a wedding anniversary. You might want to hire an artist to capture a place that means something to you or your significant other. Commissions are often associated with portrait art, but they can also be landscapes. You might want a landscape (or a seascape) of a place where you met your husband or wife.  The story of this commissioned painting is a romantic one. When I was contacted by a young lady to paint Cape Planka, the most prominent point of land along Dalmatian coast, I didn't know the full story of why she wanted me to paint this particular place. However, I was immediately attracted to ...

THE ISLE OF THE DEAD, A NOVEL BY ROGER ZELAZNY

Image
Today I'm going to review The Isle of the Dead , a science fiction novel by Roger Zelazny. Published in 1969, it was nominated for Nebula award for the best novel. While The Isle of the Dead didn't win the Nebula award that year, it did win the French Prix Apollo in 1972. I'm happy I finally got around to reading  The Isle of the Dead, as it didn't disappoint. It is one of those science fiction novels that are worth the hype. I immensely enjoyed reading it and would recommend it (especially to the fans of this genre and writer).   If the title of this novel made you think of a certain painting, you're making the right connection in your head.   The title of the novel is  a reference to a famous painting (or better to say a series of paintings) by Swiss German painter Arnold  Böcklin . A certain place in the novel was clearly inspired by the above mentioned painting. Moreover, the novel's protagonist Francis mentions the painting as 'that mad pain...
