Painting with make up ( Red Swan) / Slikanje sa šminkom (Crveni labud)

What do we have here today? Another painting and this one is mixed media, more precisely make up and coloured pencils on paper. The painting depicts a ballerina (in case you couldn’t tell) and I named it red swan. Is there such a thing as a red swan? Well, we all know of white and black swans, both in animal kingdom and ballet world, where Swan lake has a legendary status. A red swan is yet to be created, both in biological and dance world. Similarly, the red swan never appeared in the famous ballet Swan Lake, but it did show up in my imagination. Who knows? Perhaps someday, there will be a new ballet with this character, a reinterpretation of some sort. In that case the red swan could have a change to dance. Speaking of red swans, in Native American lore there is a lovely story featuring a red swan. Look it up and you'll find it suprisingly similar to the famous ballet. Perhaps not so surprisingly if you know that the balet was inspired by a Russial folk tale. Remember what I told you about mythology? If you study it for long enough, you will find many similarities. You can read this Native American fairy tale here

Tko zna?

I greately respect professional dancers. Dancers are often not given the credit they deserve for being artists. For many of them are  great artists. Dance as an art form is very demanding. Nevertheless, today I won't talk about dance as art but rather about dance as a part of life. You know what I come to believe? If everyone would take five minutes every day to dance, this world be a happier place. Not a profoundly better place for such a change it would take a lot more work, but I’m sure there would be more merriment. There is something liberating about free style dancing, about taking a few minutes to just jump around and move to our favourite rhythm. It is so liberating that I’m not surprised that dance is sometimes used as a form of therapy. While I’m no expert in this field, I would recommend everyone to use their daily break to dance a bit. Dance can be as therapeutic as a sincere smile. For many of us, it is such a simple and easy way to unwind. It is very rewarding yet it takes so little effort and time. Why do we often forget about those simple joys of life?

Look at children. They turn everything into a game. They don’t dance to lose weight, they don’t dance to compete or to impress others, they dance for dance’s sake. For merriment, for joy of the movements, for a celebration of life. They dance just for fun of it. Children seize every opportunity for play. They are wise. Our heart needs merriment to balance the life’s tragedies. We can learn a great deal just by observing children and their natural instict to live in the present moment. It is true that children aren't troubled by the past, but who says we must be? We have the choice to let go. To let go of our fears and neurosis. To feel natural is to feel free. Life isn’t terribly just and perhaps we can’t make it so, but we can shape ourselves. We can bring more joy into our life by being grateful for those blessings we have and by taking the opportunity to create more blessings in other people’s life. Because if don’t love others, if you don’t treat them as human beings, if you don’t think of them, you have no right expect the same. A lot of people complain about being lonely, but they forget that it always takes two to tango. We can't expect the world to be revolve around us.

Pogledajte djecu. Ona sve pretvore u igru. Otpuštanja naših strahova i neuroza.

There is nothing wrong in working hard, but it is equally important to learn how to celebrate life. How to treat food with respect, how to eat our meals in gratitude. How to pray, not necessarily in the religious sense but in a sense that we accept there is something greater than us and searching for it, both in our inside and outside world. How to dance, as freely and innocently as a child. How to live without forgetting what is dearest to us, how not to life deceive us into thinking we need to give up on all those things that are so hard to explain, too precious and rare to be properly expressed with words. If we have forgot how to do these things, we need to learn them. Eat. Pray. Dance. Live. Love.

Jesti. Moliti se. Plesati. Živjeti. Voljeti.

  6. Dancing is definitely a form of art. I admire dancers too and love watching classical ballet performances. But, you're right, we should also dance more just for the fun of it. Gorgeous picture! Once again, love that it's done with makeup.

  17. Dance does seem to be a particularly demanding art and I would agree that most dancers do not get enough credit especially for all the discipline and hard work they have to put in ahead of each performance. Another wonderful illustration!

Loved everything: your mixed tools, trying to use something completely innovative (the make up), the red color which is always associated with power and fierce and the storytelling behind the drawing: didn't know about the red swan but now I know something more ;) So happy to find this kind of curiousities in your site, Ivana :D

  25. Divan post, Ivanice!

3 AMAZING CITIES TO VISIT IN HERZEGOVINA BESIDES MOSTAR

My last post was about beautiful historical town Mostar, but today I want to show you other amazing cities in the region of Herzegovina. You guys know how much I treasure Mostar and how important it is to me. Mostar is the largest and best known city in Herzegovina, the cultural and administrative centre of this region you might say. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that other cities don't deserve to be on your tourist radar as well. Honestly, one of the things that amazes me about Herzegovina is the diversity of its cities. Today I'll present three lovely cities to you: Ljubuški, Čapljina and Široki Brijeg. This is by no means a complete list. Another thing worth pointing out is that a lot of places  that get called cities, but in reality there are not that many cities in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina (only around 20). Popular tourist destinations such as Blagaj and Međugorje are often called cities while in fact they do not have a status of a city.

VISIT OLD CITY CENTRE AND OLD BRIDGE IN MOSTAR WITH ME!

Today I will take you on a virtual walk through Mostar city, more specifically through the old part of the town. Whether you're a history lover or not, the historical part of Mostar city will surely impress you. There is a reason why this place is so popular. It's an utterly beautiful area and it's extremely photogenic. I'm very excited I'll be sharing it with you today. Moreover, I'm going to give you some outfit tips for sightseeing the old bridge and the old city. As some of you know, I'm currently based in Mostar. One the benefits of being Mostar based is that the gorgeous historical centre is always available to me (Click here to see my most recent blog post shot at old bridge in Mostar) and that means I can give you good insider tips too.
These photographs were all taken last Sunday when we decided to go for a walk through the old city after mass. We walked from the Saint Peter and Paul church and monastery to the old bridge, through the old town and…

KATE KASIN LONG SEQUIN DRESS (REVIEW AND STYLING TIPS)

Hi everyone! Who else loves sequined dresses? If you're into the metallic dress trend, you might find this post interesting. As the title indicates, today I'll be reviewing a gold Kate Kasin sequined maxi dress. I'm also going to give you some tips on rocking sequined dresses. Firstly, it is good to remember there is a metallic shade for every skin tone and undertone. The same rules we use for choosing the right jewellery for our skin tone can be applied to sequined and metallic items as well. Generally speaking, silver items are recommended for colder skin undertones and gold items for warmer ones. However, there are exceptions. Not all gold tones are the same. For example, rose gold is said to look particularly beautiful on fair skin ladies. This dress happens to come in different colours and shades (rose gold, gold, black, red, silver, navy blue and turquoise). Being olive skinned and warm toned myself, I opted for a gold version of this dress. What do you think? Does …
