Home on the road/ Dom na cesti

Home on the road                                                                    Dom na cesti

I lay in the dirt next to the road                                         Ležah u prašini kraj ceste
Neither I saw his face                                                        Niti ja vidim lice njegovo
nor he saw mine.                                                                niti on vidje lice moje.

The stars came down and the air was blue                        Zvijezde sišle su i zrak bijaše plav
Neither I saw his hands                                                     Niti vidjeh ruke njegove
nor he saw mine.                                                                niti on vidje moje.

The East became as green as a lemon.                              Istok postane zelen kao limun.
Because of one bird, I open my eyes.                                Zbog jedne ptice otvorim oči.

Then I found out whom I have loved                               Tada doznah koga sam ljubila
my entire life.                                                                    čitav život.
Then he found out whose poor hands                              Tada on dozna kome je ruke
he has hugged.                                                                   grlio uboge.

And the man takes his bundle, and starts                           I uze čovjek zavežljaju i krenu
in tears toward his home.                                                    plačući u svoj dom.
And his home is dirt on the road,                                       A njegov dom je prašina na cesti,
the same as my home. *                                                      kao i moj dom.

                                                    Vesna Parun

  3. Dear Ivana, many thanks for this touching poem. I got during reading even tears in my eyes. Thank you especially for your translation.
But your look didn't bring tears in my eyes! I like you in this look and the scarf is such an elegant touch. I can imagine you were happy that you have worn the warm coat as it obviously was really windy.

    1. thank you so much...lately I've been sharing more poetry because everyone seems to enjoy it so and besides this is a fun way to make Croatian authors more accessible. Literature of nations that are outside the old colonial European/American circle is often ignored in any serious study.

My fashion illustration of the day + book review / Moja modna ilustracija dana + ogled knjige ( Le Diable au corps) 6.12.2016

This morning I read an amazing novel. Le Diable au corps (translated as The Devil In the Flesh) is a novel by Raymond Radiquet. Believe it or not, this was by first book by this French writer. I don't think I even heard of him before, which is odd, but well, it happens. In his time, Raymond was quite a celebrity and he is still considered as one of the important French writers of that period. Did I like this novel? Quite frankly, I loved it. I just couldn't put this novel down. I must have read it an hour or so. I got up a bit more earlier this morning so I actually had time to read it with my morning coffee (it is not a very long novel but still it is amazing how easy it was to find one's self glued to those pages). Perhaps I should make it a habit, getting up more early so I can read more.
Jutros sam pročitala divan roman. Đavo u tijelu  (naslov izvornika Le Diable au corps) je roman Raymonda Radiqueta. Vjerovali ili ne, ovo je moj prvi roman ovoga pisca. Mislim da nika…

Lado (drawing of the day/ crtež dana)

Hello everyone! Have I ever talked to you about my love for folklore? I've always been keen on exploring folklore dresses and costumes, mostly because I find them to be very inspirational. In my view, folklore is one of the best fashion inspiration out there. The diversity and the beauty of international folklore dresses and costumes is enough to leave anyone impressed. Here I illustrated one of Croatian national costumes ( we have a lot of them), worn by Croatian national folklore dance ensemble Lado. As a reference for this drawing, I used a photograph from Lado's official catalog. The medium is coloured pencils on papers.
Zdravo svima!

Diane Von Furstenberg Resort 2018 ( fashion illustration of the day/ modna ilustracija dana )

I know what you're thinking. It's Summer, how can you think about coats? Well, I can. The sweat is literally dripping down by forehead, but I'm going to share an illustration inspired by Diane Von Furstenberg's 2018 Resort collection. It is always good to look forward to something, right? I'm pretty sure that a lot of ladies are looking forward to this collection hitting the stores this November. What I personally find so irresistible about it are- the colours. I'm very keen on bold colours and patterns, so no wonder this collection caught my eye.
Znam što mislite. Ljeto je, kako možeš razmišljati o kaputima? Jednostavno mogu.
