“Perhaps we are in this world to search for love, find it and lose it, again and again. With each love, we are born anew, and with each love that ends we collect a new wound. I am covered with proud scars.”  Isabel Allende
- Isabel Allende
I've started this post with the words of an author that is very close to my heart. This illustration is not my attempt to draw Isabel but since her words as well as the characters in her novels (among which there are many fascinating and  surreal women) have got stuck in my head it would come as no surprise to me it if some of them got tangled in the nets of my imagination. In fact, all of the South American writers that I have had the chance to read have something magical and attractive in their writing and by that I don't mean just the genre definition that goes under the name of magical realism. How unusual it seemed to read a pope's interview in which he mentioned his friendship with Borges. Borges seemed to me ( and I must have gathered this impression from his writing for I never attempt to investigate the writers I read ...especially not in the way that is sadly present even in scientific circles and that is more appropriate for yellow pages) to be a rather closed and intellectual person but hey...artists are people as well.

Writers are people as well....they too love and lose and from that human characteristic comes probably one of the treasures of the human spirit and that is literature. We are all people, but what we are besides just being people is what defines us. Someone is a human being and.. an artist, someone else a scientist or a saint...or a parent...Many people demonstrate dedication to others and work hard for the benefit of us all.
That other in us, the process of overcoming of our primal base or in other words the process of building on that foundation, building on our definition as humans, is perhaps the very meaning of life. An attempt to realize ourselves on as many levels as possible, to widen our horizons and the push the boundaries of our spirit.

Nevertheless, we are all human. That fact alone should make us feel less lonely. We all love and lose, give up and struggle on, again and again. People. Perhaps it is more of a starting point, then it is a strict definition. A word and a sort of a name that we cannot escape while we live, that connects us. It is up to us  to work on it, to expand the meaning of what we are. The mere words overcome their definitions, refuse to stay within their boundaries...dictionaries are constantly rewritten and new meanings added.. The words themselves whose purpose is to define things often refuse to be defined and grow outside their definition...so why shouldn't we, their makers?

No, u svakom slučaju svi smo mi ljudi. Ljudskost. Same riječi prelaze svoje okvire i definicije....rječnici se stalno dopisuju i nova značenja dodaju.

Ustvari nove. Pomiče granice i sve to.

  4. Vidis, ja uvijek volim traziti poveznice privatnoga i maste izmedju umjetnika i djela...
    Lijepe rijeci i divan post...

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism.

My fashion illustration of the day + book review / Moja modna ilustracija dana + ogled knjige ( Le Diable au corps) 6.12.2016

This morning I read an amazing novel. Le Diable au corps (translated as The Devil In the Flesh) is a novel by Raymond Radiquet. Believe it or not, this was by first book by this French writer. I don't think I even heard of him before, which is odd, but well, it happens. In his time, Raymond was quite a celebrity and he is still considered as one of the important French writers of that period. Did I like this novel? Quite frankly, I loved it. I just couldn't put this novel down. I must have read it an hour or so. I got up a bit more earlier this morning so I actually had time to read it with my morning coffee (it is not a very long novel but still it is amazing how easy it was to find one's self glued to those pages). Perhaps I should make it a habit, getting up more early so I can read more.

Lado (drawing of the day/ crtež dana)

Hello everyone! Have I ever talked to you about my love for folklore? I've always been keen on exploring folklore dresses and costumes, mostly because I find them to be very inspirational. In my view, folklore is one of the best fashion inspiration out there. The diversity and the beauty of international folklore dresses and costumes is enough to leave anyone impressed. Here I illustrated one of Croatian national costumes ( we have a lot of them), worn by Croatian national folklore dance ensemble Lado. As a reference for this drawing, I used a photograph from Lado's official catalog. The medium is coloured pencils on papers.
Zdravo svima!

Fashion illustrations of the day (markers)

Hello darlings! How are you? Can you believe that February ends today? This month has just flown by. I know it's the shortest month in the year but still. Today I'm going to share 3 fashion illustrations and sketches with you. The medium for all of them is marker on paper. I don't work with markers that often, but sometimes it is good to try something different. The fashion sketches I'm sharing are all about 3 colours: purple, green and red. Spring is in the air, so this is my reflection on all those trends for the new season. The first illustration shows a girl wearing a purple and blue jumpsuit. The second illustration features a girl wearing a transparent green dress with a top and a skirt under that dress. The third illustration shows two girls in red gowns.
