10 STYLE LESSONS LEARNED FROM MARIA CALLAS

Image
In this post, we shall examine Maria Callas' style secrets. Maria Callas was a legendary opera signer, nicknamed 'La Divina'. Considered one of the most important and renowned opera singers of the twentieth century, Maria Callas's artistic and style legacy continues to inspire. Her stage life was relatively short, but her influence on opera was enormous. Maria Callas died in her early fifties from a heart attack,  after battling dermatomyosis (a rare illness that affects the muscles) for years.  We could perhaps describe Callas as a citizen of the world. This Greek American singer was celebrated not only in her native countries (USA & Greece), but in Italy, France and England. Callas spoke four languages fluently. Maria Callas was intelligent, eloquent and well spoken.  During her life, she was considered a style icon. It is her style that we shall examine in this post.  I would describe her style as elegant and timeless. Callas was known for being always ca...

MAIGRET ET LE CLOCHARD, A NOVEL BY GEORGES SIMENON (BOOK REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION)

Image
In this post, I'll share a book review for  Maigret and the Dosser ( also translated as   Maigret and the Bum / Maigret and the Tramp ). Published in 1963, this novel's title gives away the plot- detective Julies Maigret takes on the mystery of an attempted murder of a bum. If you are looking for a short crime novel, look no further.    Maigret and the Dosser ( Maigret et le Clochard)   is  a detective novel by a prolific Belgian writer George Simenon. You know, calling Simenon prolific would be somewhat of an understatement (one needs to add an adverb before the prolific adjective). George Simenon was an extremely prolific writer who wrote around four hundred and fifty novels. Many of Simenon's best known works feature detective Maigret.  In fact, Simenon wrote seventy-five novels and twenty- eight short stories featuring Julies Maigret. As you might know, many classical crime writers wrote numerous novels with the same detective protagonist. It could...

1 BLACK COAT, 2 LOCATIONS, 3 WINTER OUTFITS (BIH)

Image
Hello! In this post, I shall share three all black winter outfits. I haven't decided for how long I'll wear black for mourning. With my personal style gravitating towards colours and patterns, it feels unusual to wear only black and I do miss wearing colour.  Moreover, the number of black clothing items in my closet is somewhat limited. I own most of those classical pieces  that are sometimes called wardrobe essentials: a black coat, two black suits, a few LBDs, a black maxi/midi dress, two pairs of black jeans (all of my dark jeans are flared, though) and a leather jacket. Plus, I own a few black clothing items that are not exactly classics. So, I'm working with those clothing items at the moment. You'll probably have a chance to see every black item from my closet in the next week or so. Wearing black right now feels right. That's good enough reason for me. Zdravo! U ovom postu podijelit ću tri potpuno crne zimske odjevne kombinacije. Nisam odlučila koliko ću dugo...

TRAVEL WITH MY ART #28, BASINA BAY, CROATIA (FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY)

Image
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, I will share a new watercolour painting with you.  With the help of this painting, we shall (digitally) revisit Basina bay on island Hvar (Croatia). You know, I wasn't sure whether this post belongs to  TRAVEL WITH MY ART or   FRIDAY FASHION ILLUSTRATION  series. As you might know, Travel With My Art is a regular feature on my blog focused on my location and destination art. This feature enables me to share my paintings of places that inspire me. Friday Fashion Illustration is also a regular feature on my blog but it is (as the name implies)  more focused on my fashion related art and illustration. This watercolour painting can perhaps be categorized as both destination and fashion illustration. It depicts a certain location- Basina bay on island Hvar, so you could call it a landscape or a location painting. However, I'm also present in this illustration it and I'm wearing an outfit- hence it could be l...
