WEARING SUMMER FLORALS IN SPLIT CITY 2024

 Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers!  I actually decided to take another short vacation. I took a few more days off to relax before returning to work. I'm currently in Split (Croatia),  going for daily swims, reading books and trying to improve my mental and physical fitness. With everything that is going on in the world, I really needed a mental break.

Yesterday I shopped at a nearby second-hand shop where they sell clothes by kilogram. I bought about two kilos of clothes. All for 9 euros and 60 cents, not bad. I went there because I had to buy white shirts for work and I ended up buying 15 items. Now I have all the shirts I need! 

Do you sometimes feel like there are two kinds of people, those who brag how much they paid for something and those who brag how little they paid? Maybe there is also the third, who do neither of these things. Either way, what matters is that you do what makes sense to you.

Anyway, bought some other things as well, including this floral dress that didn't come with a label. I paired it with black Borosana sandals from an iconic Croatian brand Borovo, big sunglasses and a mini beige bag. I felt fantastic wearing this!

The print on this illustrated reminded me of this dress! I drew this fashion illustration a few years ago based on D&G design. 

I think I'll get a lot of wears out of this floral mini dress. I plan to style it under longer skirts. I often wear my shorter skirts as blouses by layering skirts over them. I also plan to wear this mini floral dress with fun tights or leggings once it gets colder. I can totally imagine layering it with blazers.

It is my hometown and I love it.

PHOTODIARY: EN PLEIN AIR SKETCH

Back in Spring 2021, I took advantage of wonderful sunny weather to do some en plein air sketching in Split city, Croatia.  The weather was so warm that it felt like summer. The beach I sketched is called Firule and what you can se in the distance is island Čiovo. I drew this seascape with watercolour pencils, What made me choose this spot to sketch were the colours. I was fascinated by the colour of the sea and the rocks.

Fashion & Location Illustration of the Day ( Split)

Why do location and fashion illustrating often go hand in hand? I found myself asking that question today. I love exploring all aspects of fashion illustration, because well it's something I'm passionate about, and I've pretty much always been into it. Seriously, my elementary schoolbooks are filled with fashion illustrations. Anyhow, as of late, I find myself wanting to make fashion illustrations that will be as much about the location as about the outfit. I know I'm not the only one. There are many fashion illustrators out there who do location illustrating as well. I'm not sure what is the secret connection, but location art sure gets along with fashion art. Inner design and architecture are often a part of fashion illustrations as well.  

Now, that I think of it, I need more white in my wardrobe. I have one a few white  dresses with different prints, but one can always use more.

CHANELLING MY INNER MONICA BELLUCCI

When I wrote about Monica Bellucci's style, I noticed that she realizes on classical prints, such as floral print,  a lot. That made me think, what is the history of floral print? I had to do some research. I found a good article that I'm going to link below. 

I visited this site CULTURE ON CALL and found out more about the history of floral print.

Floral design history takes us all the way back to Ancient Egypt, where designs included order, simplicity and repetition of a particular pattern, with specific flowers having special meanings, such as the lotus blossom which was considered sacred. In Greek and Roman times, real flowers were used to decorate clothing through bouquets, wreaths, garlands and brooches which would add a scented flourish for any occasion.

It wasn’t until the late-medieval period that we started to see floral design included on fabrics. This can largely be attributed to China in the twelfth century, when embroidered fabrics showing beautiful flowers and scenes of nature were used for clothing. This trend swept through Middle Eastern and Asian countries, and thanks to the Silk Road, made its way into Europe via Italian merchants.

In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Italian cities like Venice and Florence were renowned for their sumptuous velvet fabrics that incorporated gold and silver threads in large floral patterns, inspired by the fabrics imported from the Ottoman Empire.

These beautiful fabrics, along with embroidered silks made their way to France where, at the court of Louis XIV, superintendent of finance Jean-Baptiste Colbert pushed forward a plan to promote the new French embroidered silks inspired from those traded by Italian merchants. These silks made their way to England, however the designers here based their designs on botanical specimens and engravings....

ANOTHER FLORAL STYLING I WORE IN SUMMER 2015

That red dress was my answer to a question- What to wear to a summer date? I felt really comfortable in that outfit, as much as I felt in this floral dress outfit I wore.

Sometimes I feel like wearing something form fitting, sometimes I prefer something a bit more oversized. 

A FORM-FITTING STATEMENT DRESS PAIRED WITH COMFY SHOES IS MY SUMMER DATE LOOK!

If form- fitting is your choice, you simply cannot go wrong with a statement dress and a pair of comfortable sandals. If you want to feel comfortable and still look attractive and feminine, then a statement dress is the way to go. Floral pattern dress is a fun choice, but you can also go for a one colour option.

 Pair your statement dress  with a cute bag and comfortable sandals for a easy but feminine summer styling.

 If you don't feel comfortable in a dress, then you choose shorts or pants and wear a statement top.

 In fact, sometimes I wear a skirt over a dress so that it becomes a top with statement sleeves.

 I think I'm just a long hair girly at heart, you know! I think I'll stick with darker hair as well, I tried dyeing my hair dark brown instead of black, but it turned black. I'd have to use bleach to lighten it as I have been dyeing it black, and I don't feel like using bleach. 

Have you been reading anything interesting lately? I have, but I'll save the details for the next review. I read a few short stories by Maugham. Some of them were quite bleak, but I enjoyed them all. I also read some stories by Ursula K. Le Guin. At the moment, I'm reading a novel Playing God by Sarah Zettel. So far, so good!  It's an interesting read for sure.
