THE SKY IS RED BY GIUSEPPE BERTO (BOOK REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION)

Hello readers and fellow bloggers! Today I will share a review of a novel The Sky is Red by Italian writer Giuseppe Berto. Published in 1947, this novel is set in Italy during the Second World War period. Focused on a group of orphans trying to survive the war on their own terms, this novel is a difficult but rewarding read. I would describe it as an accomplished work of literature for sure, and as the title of this post would suggest- a book I would recommend. The last book I reviewed was The Diary of Anna Frank , another book set in this historical period, albeit not fiction. My last review was a diary while The Sky is Red is a novel (hence fiction), but children and adolescents are in the center of both so I couldn't help comparing them in my mind. The war is always the hardest for children, especially when they have to be separated from their friends and/or family.
