DISCOVER SKOZANJE BAY (GDINJ, ISLAND HVAR) WITH ME!

I have promised to show you the most beautiful beaches island Hvar has to offer, haven't it? I intent to keep my promise. Today I'm taking you to bay Skozanje. Located on the southern side of island Hvar, this beautiful bay can boost with a stunning pebble beach. It offers amazing views as well. The area itself is very green, the bay is surrounded by a thick pine forest. Olive trees are another common sight. Bay Skozanje is one of the bays that belong to village Gdinj. As some of you know, both of my maternal grandparents originate from this charming little village, so I know my way around it. Yesterday I intended to show all the southern bays belonging to Gdinj to my significant other. This involved lots of driving but we managed to see them all. Today I'm sharing one of them with you.
I love Gdinj bays. This village was once quite big, but Gdinj's population got smaller with time as most people moved to cities. However, during the summer months this changes, as most locals still return here for the summer (and most of them rent their summer houses). Tourism isn't anything new here (my grandparents rented their summer house too), although in the past it wasn't done on this scale. Now the majority of houses in all the bays are available for rent and the renting goes so well it is impossible to find a free apartment once the summer starts. Gdinjlike most villages here, encompasses many bays. It is placed in the middle you could say, meaning that you can see both sides of the island from the village itself. Some of the bays are located a bit farther away, some closer but the average distance from the village itself is about 4 km. Today I'm showing you Skozanje bay which is located on the southern side of the island. The bays located on the southern side have a view of island Korčula and Pelješac, while the northern bays have a view of Makarska and Croatian coast. Most village have about a dozen bays at each side (that are owned by locals).  In the old days, people typically had two houses, one in the village and one by the sea (where they kept their fishing boats and equipment). Today these old fishing houses became apartments for rent, and they are extremely popular with the tourists. Can you blame them? They are gorgeous. If you want to quiet vacation near the sea, this is the place to go. Most tourists visiting Gdinj bays are oriented towards family tourism. They are a great choice for families with small children as well as for anyone who is looking for peace and quiet. The sea is crystal clear and all the bays are beautiful.
One of the reasons why I wanted to take my significant other here is because I have relatives here. There weren't there when we visited, but I wanted to show my husband what their home was like. I also wanted to see if there were any new houses in these bays. I noticed some new houses but most bays look almost the same as when I visited them as a kid. Now, when I was a kid, I mostly visited this bays by a boat. Driving to them was actually a new experience for me. Speaking of driving, some of the roads are quite narrow. These beautiful bays are more than worth the trouble, though.

  20. OMG wow, truly beautiful. It reminds of the rugged coastlines of the west coast here in the states. In New York on Long Island we have both sandy beaches and pebble beaches and I am glad we do because it makes it easier to deal with the hot humid summers.

    1. Thank you Allie. I actually prefer pebble beaches to sand beaches. We have a few truly beautiful sand beaches here, but I always preferred pebble ones.

As I told you in some of the previous posts this island reminds me so much of Mallorca in the Mediterranean sea, and wouldn't mind to go and book one of those tiny cute house to stay and have some relaxing days by the sea :) !
