Hello there! Today I'll take you to not one but three charming villages in vicinity of Hvar town, Croatia. Zaraće, Gornje Grablje and Brusje are beautiful villages that are only a short drive away from Hvar and Stari grad town. You may not have heard of these picturesque villages, but let me assure you there are more than worth a visit. I often blog about lovely villages, towns and places on island Hvar, but there is always more to discover. I'm so happy that I will share these lovely places with you. Time to hit the road and breathe in the fields of lavender this island is famous for. Scroll down to see more.
ZARAĆE- A CHARMING VILLAGE THAT IS A MIX OF THE OLD AND THE NEW
First we will visit Zaraće, a small village in immediate vicinity of Hvar town. This village consists of two parts: the older and the newer one. The new part is more touristy but I'm more interested in history so we went for the old part. There aren't any imposing structures here, but I absolutely adore these kind of small villages where you can really feel the soul of the place. I felt very connected to my islander roots here. The whole area is very serene and the panorama is almost impossibly beautiful.
THE HISTORICAL PART OF THE VILLAGE IS LOCATED ABOVE THE MAIN ROAD
The historical part of the village is located above the main road. There you can take a walk and enjoy the magnificent panorama. The older part of the village is located at an altitude of 200 meters so you can really enjoy the view there. Most of the houses there are quite old, but some of them have been restored and are available for rent. The new part of the village is to be find bellow the main road and is mostly composed out of summer houses located in the bay of the same name. There in the bay Zaraće you can find a beautiful beach, apartments in immediate vicinity of the sea and restaurants. We only explored the historical part of the village because as I said I'm a history lover. Besides, we plan to visit the newer one some other time. The old part of this village reminded me of
Gdinj.
VELO GRABLJE- A CHARMING VILLAGE FROM 15TH CENTURY
Our next stop was Velo Grablje, a beautiful historical village with a gorgeous old church. I loved strolling this village, it's so picturesque. There were a few tourists around, but it wasn't crowded. We also passed by a restaurant that looked inviting, but we didn't have time to stop for a bit to eat so we just strolled around, did some sight-seeing and moved on. This was my first visit to Velo Grablje but I hope it won't be the last. This village deserves another visit for sure. What do you think? Isn't it adorable? It looks just dreamy seen from the road. Surrounded by all the greenery and hills, this village really pop out. It is located only 5 km from Brusje village and 10 km from Hvar town.
After visiting Velo Grablje, our next stop was Brusje village. So, we got into our car and drove off. We drove slowly (I don't remember which ones of us was driving, maybe we shifted places?) but anyhow we decided to stop at some point. We were lucky to happen about a gorgeous lookout with views of
Stari grad town and island Hvar!
HAPPENING ONTO A FANTASTIC LOOKOUT POST BY CHANCE
We were obviously really happy we discovered this lookout post so we took a few photos. If you decided to hike or drive from Hvar town to Brusje, make sure to stop here and take some photographs. If you want to learn more about island Hvar, you're welcome to check some of my old links:

BRUSJE- A CHARMING VILLAGE THAT IS HOME TO MANY NOTABLE ACADEMICS AND ARTISTS
Finally, we arrived to Brusje and what a lovely village it is! This was my second visit actually.
From these three villages I presented to you today, I've only been to Brusje prior to that day and that was a short evening visit to see a play years ago. I don't remember much about the play we saw, but the seminar in Hvar was great. You see, we saw this play as a part of a Croatian literature seminar I attended as a literature student. As I said, that was all years ago and I was happy to get to see Brusje again. We stopped for coffee in a lovely lavender themed cafe where you can also buy natural herbal products and essential oils. The owner of that cafe was very friendly and informative. There weren't any restaurants open yet (this was all at the beginning of the summer), so we settled for coffee and promised ourselves to come back some other time to see more of this village.
How do you like these villages? Would you like to visit Zaraće, Velo Grablje and Brusje? As always thank you for stopping by. Take care and stay safe.

DeleteVery nice, dearest Ivana! It all looks so pretty originally. I really like the old stone houses that can be seen in many Croatian villages - they have a very special flair. I can well imagine visiting Zaraće, Velo Grablje and Brusje one day. Your outfit is also very beautiful - the well-cut black dress looks a bit like traditional costume in combination with the scarf, and I like that very much. Plus the lace tights - very attractive!

DeleteWhen I saw the first few photos I fell in love with the village, it is indeed charming. I also felt it more when you jumped, you enjoyed every moment. That is how I feel when I am at a place I really like. That cafe with wooden chairs is so cool. Looks pretty amazing and calming.

DeleteWhat an incredibly beautiful part of the world you live in, Ivana! It makes me want to visit, but goodness knows how many years it will be until we can travel all that way again. I enjoyed your poses, especially the "give me that camera!" one (I've done that!).
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes I can't wait to start taking photos:).

ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHello dear Ivana, how you doing?! Hope you had a nice week and that you're enjoying the last bits of summer!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thanks for your support in my latest blog post, really appreciate that you're always taking the time to leave a feedback, I sincerely appreciate it!
And about these escapades I love the fact that you're always catching a new place and discovering new details around your area! By the way the other day I saw a video about Hvar and I though about you! It seems that you have a little bit of everything around Hvar: breathtaking views, nature and old places to get lost and then end the day with a hot beverage.
And your OOTD is one of your best, so simple but elegant and the detail of the scarf tied up in the hair is amazing Ivana!
