OUTFIT TIPS FOR VISITING MOSTAR CITY IN SUMMER

Mostar is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, second only to Sarajevo. Being the the largest city in the Herzegovina region, Mostar is the natural business, administrative, cultural, educational and tourist centre of the Herzegovina region. Many people visit this beautiful city for a variety of river. Besides being absolutely stunning, Mostar is also know for record high temperatures in the summertime. Hence, you should pay special attention to the clothes you're wearing when visiting Mostar, especially if you're venturing outside in daylight or when the sun is still strong. Today I'll show you some outfit tips for visiting Mostar city in Summer. Let's get started!

WEARING: A VINTAGE WHITE BLOUSE, DIY NECKLACE, AN OLIVE PENCIL SKIRT (NO NAME) AND A PAIR OF DRIVING LOAFERS

I've blogged about Mostar many times on my post. If you want to see more of this city, feel free to visit my old posts, for example this one where I explain the magic of Neretva river to you.

HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THIS LOCATION? STUNNING SPANISH SQUARE IN MOSTAR

The Spanish square is one of most beautiful squares in Mostar. Why is it called Spanish Square? It's because here there is a monument devoted to Spanish soldiers that were killed here in the nineties war. White was the main colour used when this square was redecorated and  I'd say it's an excellent choice for any Mediterranean city. The plants that were planted are Mediterranean too. Nothing better than to sit on a nice bench and breathe in the smell of rosemary. However, my favourite thing about this square is not the new part of it, but one historical building.

Indeed, you could say that the Spanish square is dominated by this historical school constructed during the rule of Austro-Hungarian Empire. This is probably my favourite building in Mostar. It was build in 1890ties. It is know as Old Gymnasium (because it really is old) but it is actually called Gymnasium Mostar. Within this gorgeous  building United World Collage is also situated. In addition, in the back of the building, you can find American Corner. It is a must see spot if you visit Mostar.

WHEN VISITING MOSTAR IN SUMMER BEWARE OF THE STRONG SUN AND THE STRONG TEMPERATURES!
What to wear when you're feeling hot? This question is very valid one, especially if you happen to find yourself in an urban jungle of some sort. Indeed, I'm sure this is a question that often comes to our mind during these hot summer days, especially if you happen to find yourself in a city, where the heat seems to multiply with the amount of concrete cover areas. Fortunately, there are ways to make our life easier.  Besides the obvious answer- looking for the nearest city park to escape the heat, another way to minimize the unpleasant  feeling of being overheated is by choosing our outfits wisely. The first thing to consider is the material of our clothes. Natural materials are the best options, but if you don't have any cotton or line items at hand, certain cuts can also be helpful. For example, I have a pink vintage polyester dress that is very comfortable to wear in the summer. Polyester isn't the most breathable material, in fact it is just the opposite, but you won't overheat if you choose a good cut for yourselves.   Anything that doesn't stick to your body should do the trick. Think about all the breezy or oversize items you have. Choose A-line dresses or skirts instead of pencil ones. In this first outfit, you can see me wearing a pencil skirt but I wore that outfit later in the day, when the sun was starting to set. Naturally, some pencil skirts can be comfortable even in the heat. This one is a pretty good choice even for summer because the material is light. Moreover, I had paired it with a white blouse so that made the whole look more appropriate for summer. Feeling comfortable is something that we all want to achieve and we can do it if we listen to our body. You will know best! Finally, think about colours. Black attracts the sun rays the most, white the least. Did you know that polar bears actually have black skin so that they can maximize the scarce sun available in the polar regions? Their fur is in fact not so much white as transparent and it is angled so that the sun rays hit the darker skin, not the lighter fur. Nature is a genius, I tell you. So, long story short, to keep cool you should wear white and lighter shades and avoid black and darker shades. In the summer, lighter colours are the way to go, especially when we're talking about daytime.  When sun is strong, wear lighter shades and colours to repeal its rays. Choosing the perfect summer outfit is a combination of colour, cut and material of your clothes as well as a pair of comfortable shoes.

WEAR FLATS IF YOU'RE VISITING THE OLD BRIDGE IN MOSTAR (ONE OF THE SYMBOLS OF THE CITY) & THE OLD PART OF THE CITY
The Old Bridge in Mostar is possibly the most famous bridge in Mostar city.  It is a rebuild Ottoman bridge, dating back to the 16th century. It is easily recognizable and often referred to as Mostar bridge (or more frequently simply as Old Bridge). Many tourists visit the Old Bridge area, and you can find many restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops at every corner. This beautiful historical bridge is one of the trademarks and symbols of Mostar city. The area around Old Bridge is a wonderful mix of Western and Eastern architectural influences, heightened by the ever present Mediterranean atmosphere and vibes that add something wonderfully relaxing to it. Here can see the architectural legacy left by the Ottoman (mostly 15/16th century) and Austrian Hungarian Empire (19/20th century) as well as by other bigger and smaller cultural and ethical groups. Mediterranean Slavic countries are  often a mix of Western and Eastern influences, and this is evident in everything from religious buildings to road and bridges. To experience the Old Bridge, you need to visit it yourself. Words can't fully describe it. The view from the Old Bridge is stunning. I'm always writing about how gorgeous Neretva river is, but combine its beauty with the historical part of the city and you get something truly epic.

OUTFIT TIPS FOR SIGHTSEEING THE OLD PART OF THE TOWN: WEAR FLATS, CARRY SOME LAYERS WITH YOU AND DRESS OR THE WEATHER!

My first advice to you would be to wear flats. As you can see in the photographs above, the pavements in historical part of Mostar city are made from stones. These lovely rocks were probably taken from the banks of Neretva river. As beautiful as they are, they're not easy to walk on. It's literally impossible to wear heels here. I once forgot to switch my heels for flats and let me tell you the walk to the souvenir shop (that was where I was heading) was a challenging once (remember this heels worn with socks outfit from last year? That's the one I'm referring to). My second advice would be to dress for the weather. Mostar can be extremely hot in spring and summer time. When the photos above were taken (with the yellow blazer), well that time we were lucky as the weather was quite fresh. Moreover, we strolled through the old town while the sun was setting (ideal time to do it btw) so we weren't hot. My third and final advice would be to consider the places you plan on visiting. If you're planning on sightseeing religious institutions, buildings or temples of any sorts (be it mosques or churches), it is a good idea to bring an extra layer or a long scarf so that you can be decent. As everywhere else in the world, there is a dress code for religious establishments. It is not particularly strict, but wearing a tank top and very short shorts or mini skirts is definitely a no. Just keep that in mind or bring some extra layers and to wear breathable fabrics.

OUTFIT TIPS FOR VISITING THE MODERN PART OF THE TOWN

When it comes to visiting the modern part of the city, you can dress more freely. Heels are a good option if you're a lady that likes to wear them, but it is better to opt for a block heel then a stiletto one because the pavements are not always in the best shape.

A HOT SUMMER IN MOSTAR CITY (NINE FEMININE OUTFITS)

...and a special thanks to my Mostar born husband/photographer!

I won't apologize for his post being a bit picture heavy, it is what it is. I try to make my posts as reader friendly as I can, but I'm no SEO queen. I'm much obliged to my husband for taking all these lovely outfit photographs. I don't know how he keeps his endless enthusiasm for taking daily photographs of me, even after a decade of marriage and almost two decades of being together. Without him, I probably wouldn't  many outfit photos. I certainly wouldn't have this many location photographs! He's he one who always remember to take photos at cute locations and destinations.

As always, thank you for reading and visiting. Take care! My Redbubble shop & my Pinterest

  5. Hello dear Ivana, first of all thanks for your nice comments on my latest blog post, glad you are enjoying these posts! Your support means a lot :)

Now talking about exploring Mostar in fashionable style.... I love your ideas to explore these surroundings, I am an urban type of guy and I prefer to visit cities with its museum, buildings, shops and restaurants so a visit to Mostar would be very nice! seems like a very nice and quiet place but with some options like the ones you're showing us in this post and in many previous times!

I love every outfit idea, but the one with the pink dress is so gorgeous and the skirt in A line is definitely a good option for the summer heat! I'd also recommend linen and you'll stay fresh every day during the summer!

  7. I'm not very good with hot weather, so any tips are most welcome. Wearing comfortable flat shoes for any city trip is of course a must, with all the walking around involved. Wearing a hat on a warm Summer's day is also a given for, as is wearing sunglasses! In spite of the weather, you are looking cool and collected in your first outfit. I love that cute white blouse very much. But I'm head over heels with that pink vintage dress. Swoon! xxx

    1. Yes, comfy shoes are important. I like to wear heels and there are shoes with a heel that I find comfortable, but one has to consider the area. Historical parts of many European cities aren't high heels friendly. Same goes for my city as well.

  8. I love your vintage blouse in the first outfit. And I enjoy learning more about your part of the world. I'm ignorant of that region so your words and pictures are helpful.

  9. I can see only great stylizations :) You're right - in summer each of us should remember about the hat. Not only does it add charm, it also protects :)

  10. It's so smart to consider these ideas Ivana. The heat can make you feel bad, so you really need to take into account the clothes and especially a hat.

  11. It's always good to see that lovely pink dress, it really suits you and it's wonderful that it was your mother's first!
    Great tips.
I only ever pack cotton or silk clothing when I'm travelling to a hot country, I wear once a day sunscreen so I don't have to worry about reapplying it when I'm out and about and my footwear is either leather clogs or sandals, anything with a synthetic lining makes your feet sweat and they slip around and end up with blisters (as I've learnt from past experience!) xxx
