FASHION ILLUSTRATION (OIL PASTELS): JOHANNA ORTIZ SPRING 2021 READY TO WEAR

Hello dear readers, how are you? I'm fine, working hard on some new art projects. Today I'll share a new fashion illustration of mine inspired by a statement black dress ( look #5) from Johanna Ortiz Spring 2021 Ready to Wear collection.  The dress really caught my eye but it is hardly the only eye-catching dress in this collection. On overall, Johanna's Spring collection is stunning and if you want to see more look it up (that's what the link is for). The medium for this illustration is oil pastels on mixed media paper. The oil pastels are from art brand Sonet (not sponsored). It's been a whole since I used my oil pastels to make a fashion illustration. If I remember correctly it was back in 2019 when I used oil pastels to illustrate one of Valentino's designs. Not many people use oil pastels to make fashion illustrations, but I guess I'm more adventurous than most. THE ILLUSTRATING PROCESS: Not much to say here. I first sketched this one with a charcoal pencil. Then I started to apply the oil pastels on paper, starting with the general outline and then moving onto darker tones. Finally, I added lighter shades and blended it all in. Above you can see the photograph I used as a reference. Bellow you can see more of the illustration process. I didn't time myself but I'm sure the whole process lasted at least an hour. It's been while since I used oil pastels in this way, but I'm pretty satisfied with how illustration turned out.

    1. This dress is fun. It's a proper winter dress, the material reminds me of one normally used for coats. I plan to do a special post about it in the future.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
