ART UPDATE: A NEW ACRYLIC PAINTING 'BOATS IN THE NIGHT' AND MORE
EN Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! Today I'll share with you the making of a new acrylic painting. I've created this painting fairly recently. I know some of you enjoy seeing these kind of posts, so I prepared some collages to give you an insight into my creative process. I will also show you what frames I opted for recently. I have had two of my landscape paintings framed recently and I want to show you what kind of frames I selected. If you are a new visitor, this is my living room all the paintings you can see on the walls are also mine.
HR Pozdrav dragi čitatelji i kolege blogeri!

EN TAKING MY 'SUMMER' LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS TO BE FRAMED
I took two landscape paintings I painted this summer to be framed at local art gallery Michelangelo. That's the same gallery where I normally take art classes (there are none at the moment because of the pandemic but the gallery is still open in the morning hours if you want to buy art supplies or paintings)- This is where I have had all my paintings framed. You might remember these paintings from my summer posts, the bigger one depicts Assisi, a medieval city in Italy and the smaller one depicts village Vrboska on island Hvar in Croatia. The Assisi painting is oil on canvas and Vrboska painting is acrylic paints on canvas. Prints of these paintings are available for sale via Redbubble and Arthaus.
IT DOVE HO INCORNICIATO I MIEI DIPINTI ESTIVI?
EN HOW TO SELECTED A FRAME FOR YOUR PAINTING?
When selecting a frame, there are a few factors to consider. You want it to match the painting itself, but you also want it to look nice in a room you'll showcase the painting in. I decided to go for mostly white wood frame. The frame for my Assisi painting is white with some green (a sort of a double frame) and the frame for my Vrboska boat painting is white with a blue outline. Both frames are predominately white and thus match the frames I already have in my home. I feel they fit in really well.
A NEW ACRYLIC PAINTING- BOATS IN THE NIGHT- WIP (WORK IN PROCESS)
Now, I'll show you a new acrylic painting I made. This is the first time I painted boats in the night. The first thing I did was to browse through some night photography of mine. While I was still living in Jelsa, I took a few night photographs of local fishing boats so I decided to reference those. Once I found my reference photograph, I started sketching. The new step was applying the first layer of paint. After that, I applied the second and the third layer of paint. Once I was done with all the paint layers and the basic outline of the ships, I started working on the ship's shadows and countering. I mixed paints a lot, trying to get that dark shade of the sea, so there was a lot of effort put into that as well. When the shadows were completed, I worked on the background. I outlined Jelsa and the silhouette of the buildings on the other side and then added street lights as well the reflection of those lights in the sea. Finally, I added all the details, such as ropes on the ships and so on. I'm not sure how long it took me to complete this painting because I didn't time myself, I'm guessing between 4-8 hours. I worked on it for two days, I think. It was an interesting experience painting this one because this was actually my first 'night painting'. Prior to this one, I only painted sunsets or dawns but never a night landscape.

Hello dear Ivana, I hope you're enjoying your weekend!
ReplyDeleteAs usual your art always displays many levels of creativity! It is always good to set challenges to ourselves as artists o creators, it was so good and refreshing to see paintings of the boats but now in the night... you really captured the essence of a walk by the water in this picture, for me it is perfect and it is so difficult to catch the perfect light and shadow of these scenarios, but you did so good job :D
I also liked that you featured some collages to explain the differences between the artworks and then showed us a little bit of the process: from finding the perfect picture of a reference, to sketch to find all those corners that could make a magical work of art!
Stay safe and thanks for your support always :)
Pablo

ReplyDeletethe pictures look very good in your living room and the frames in the white vintage look go very well with it.
