TWO AUTUMN OUTFIT IDEAS WITH GRAPHIC T-SHIRTS

 Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers. I'm back in Stari Grad. How's life been treating you? My work life has been draining to say the least, I've been working long hours but I won't complain as in today's time we should only be grateful if we have a job. Moving onto the subject of today's post: I'll show you two outfits featuring graphic t-shirt.  In fact, this is the garment I've been relying on lately: a printed t-shirt. Ever since the start of Autumn, I've been wearing a couple of short sleeved t-shirts printed with my original art. Graphic t-shirts are practical for Mediterranean autumn because it can still be quite warm here and really you never know when you'll need to take your blazer or jacket. I find graphic tees a really easy way to jazz up a look. These two t-shirts have been ordered from a local printer (as opposed to my Redbubble shop). THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT: WEARING A FASHION ILLUSTRATION 

THE YELLOW BLAZER- I have recently made a post about 10 ways to style this yellow blazer, so you know it is a clothing item I often reach for. A yellow blazer is a great to infuse colour into your autumn outfits. 

THE FASHION ILLUSTRATION T-SHIRT- This is the first time I wore this fashion illustration t-shirt. My husband recently brought a few of these tees with my art prints from a local printer.  I placed my order some time ago, but didn't have the time to go pick it up myself. I already wore one of them a few days ago here. This particular t-shirt has one of my fashion illustrations printed on it. The original illustration was done with watercolours and I still love it. 

THE FLORAL SKIRT- This skirt has made a few appearances on my blog since I bought it and it will definitely appear again. I bought in in KiK store (a German chain of stores) in Stari Grad. Yes, it is a fast fashion purchase but I'm trying to make this item sustainable by wearing it often. There aren't any second hand shops on island Hvar so I do occasionally pick up something in regular stores if I really need it.

THE CARAMEL BOOTS- I devoted a special post to this pair of boots, showing more than 30 ways to wear them. I'm happy that I still can wear these boots as they are both comfortable and chic.

STARI GRAD WAS SETTLED BY NEOLITHIC TRIBES BETWEEN 3500 AND 2500 BC

The area around present day Stari Grad was settled by the Neolithic tribes of the Hvar culture who occupied the island between 3500 and 2500 BC, and who traded with other settlements around the Mediterranean.

Remains of their pottery and other artifacts have been found, along with that of the Illyrian tribe^] that succeeded them. The settlement lay at the lower end of Stari Grad Bay, defended by two strongholds on the north and south hillsides overlooking the harbour (Glavica and Purkin Kuk).

In 384 BC, the town was formally founded by ancient Greeks from the island of Paros in the Aegean Sea. They gave the name Farosto their new settlement, an independent state permitted to mint its own money. The nearby plain was marked out with roads at right angles, and divided into fields of standard size. The Stari Grad Plain today represents one of the best-preserved examples of ancient Greek agriculture throughout the Mediterranean.

ILLYRIAN KING AGARON RULED OVER STARI GRAD IN THE SECOND CENTURY BC

Illyrian king Agron ruling c. 250–231 BC. extended his rule over many cities in the Adriatic and established Illyrian control over Pharos.

 ROMANS DESTROYED THE STARI GRAD CITY DURING THE SECOND ILLYRIAN WAR  AND TOOK CONTROL DURING THE THIRD

In 218 BC, the Romans defeated the Illyrian army at Pharos during the Second Illyrian War, and the town was destroyed by the Roman army, but remained under Illyrian control. The town came under permanent Roman control by force in 168 BC, following the defeat of Gentius during the Third Illyrian War.

THE FIRST CHURCH IN STARI GRAD WAS BUILT IN THE FIFTH CENTURY

The first church was built in the 5th century, in the southeast corner of the town, close to the city walls, on the foundations of a prior Greek house. In the 6th century, a new church was built on the same site, a twin basilica with a baptistry dedicated to St Mary and St John.

FOLLOWING THE FALL OF SALONA, MANY SOUGHT SAFETY IN STARI GRAD

In the 7th century, following the fall of Salona, the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia, many of its people sought refuge in Faria and other Roman towns in the nearby islands, as noted by the historian Archdeacon Thomas of Split (1200–1268) in his Historia Salonitana.

SLAVS TAKE OVER ROMAN FARIA AT START OF THE 8TH CENTURY

Roman Faria was taken over by the Slavs at the beginning of the 8th century. At this point, the town received the name we know it by today – Hvar (the letter F not being part of the old Slavic alphabet). 

NARENTINES (SOUTH SLAVIC PAGAN PIRATE TRIBE) TOOK OVER DURING THE 10TH CENTURY

During the 10th century, Hvar came under the Narentines. Pirates from Omiš on the mainland were raiding the coastal settlements, and new villages grew up in the foothills – Dol, Vrbanj and Pitve.

IN THE 13TH CENTURY, ISLAND HVAR SOUGHT PROTECTION OF THE VENETIAN REPUBLIC

In 1278, the people of Hvar chose to put themselves under the protection of the Venetian Republic. As part of the contract, they undertook to expand the existing settlement on the south side of the island as a more suitable base for the Venetian fleet. This is the site of the present day town of Hvar. The old town of Stari Grad, also referred to as "Old Hvar", remained the centre of the most densely populated part of the island, the area surrounding the agricultural plain.

IN THE 16TH CENTURY, STARI GRAD TOWN WAS RAIDED BY THE OTTOMANS (TURKS)

During the 16th century, the town was attacked by the Turks, the first time repulsing them, but in 1571 they lost, and much of the town was burnt down. Following that loss, Stari Grad was slowly rebuilt from the ruins.

SEA TRADE BROUGHT PROSPERITY TO STARI GRAD IN THE 17TH AND 18TH CENTURY

 During the 17th and 18th centuries, prosperity once again grew from sea-trade. The old waterfront (Stara Riva) was extended and the town underwent a major architectural and urban transformation, resulting in the town structure we see today.

THE 18TH  CENTURY SAW A FRENCH RULER FOLLOWED BY AUSTRIAN ONE THAT REMAINED IN THE 19TH CENTURY

In 1797 Napoleon overthrew the Venetian Republic, and Hvar briefly became part of the Austrian Empire. When the French also took over Austria, they conferred the status of an autonomous province on the town of Stari Grad. With the fall of the Napoleonic Empire, Stari Grad became part of the Dalmatian Kingdom, within the larger political body of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

THE 19TH CENTURY SAW A NEW DANGER- A WINE ILLNESS THAT FORCED MANY TO IMMIGRATE

The 19th century was peaceful, and a time of prosperity for the entire island. However, the advent of phylloxera destroyed the island's grapevines, and the town's sailing vessels could not compete with the new steam ships. Large numbers of people moved away to start a new life elsewhere. 

LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE, THE 20TH CENTURY WAS A TIME OF WAR AND UNCERTAINTY  IN STARI GRAD

We all know what the Europe went through in the first and the second World War. Stari Grad suffered the fate of many other cities.

21TH CENTURY SEES AN INCREASE OF TOURISM IN STARI GRAD

Nowadays, Stari Grad is focusing a lot on tourism and cultural events.

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT: PRINTED TEE, LEOPARD DENIM JACKET AND DARK JEANS

The second outfit I wore is something I wore for a walk. The denim jacket is again from KiK, the printed t-shirt with my illustration is from a local printer, the black jeans are super old (from an outlet store if I recall well) and I don't remember where I picked the beige moccasins from, but I had them for a while as well. This was a comfy look, something I can imagine wearing myself again.

This is Jelsa, a charming village (often referred to as a little town on island Hvar). As some of you may know, I have been living here for more than a year! Soon I'll move again, but I'll get to call this little place my home until the end of this month and my work contract.
