Making of a fashion illustration / Crtanje modne ilustracije ( Dolce& Gabbana Spring Summer 2017)
Today I'll be sharing with you one of my recent fashion illustration. This one was inspired by Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2017 runaway look. What did I like about this look? Well, frankly I liked everything about it, from the gladiator vibe to this gorgeous mustard green colour. The model was also gorgeous, I don't know her name, but I love her attitude on the runway. Who wouldn't want to draw her? Who wouldn't want to illustrate something like this? Who doesn't like Dolce & Gabbana?
The process of making a fashion illustration like this is pretty simple if you know what you're doing. If you don't know anything about it, there are YouTube tutorials you can watch and books (not to mention courses) that explain it. I opted for YouTube, probably because it is free. Anyhow, I think I already told you that I found an illustrating teacher I like. I've started following Zoe Hong (here) recently and hers is still my go to channel. From my own personal experience, fashion illustrating is mostly a matter of practice. Every illustrator I've talked to says it takes a long time to develop one's style and that is...absolutely true. So, practice, practice, practice. After that, all you need to do is find a look that you like, then draw it in your own style. I'm pretty happy with this one. Naturally, I'm speaking from a perspective of someone who is doing fashion illustrations for the fun of it. It is not like I'm planning to become a fashion illustrator. I'm just (like every women I know) a perfectionist, so even if something is a hobby for me, I want to own it. Plus, I love fashion so having a lot of fashion inspired paintings, illustrations and drawings is a win win in my book.
Osim toga, volim modu i nekakav scenarij u kojem završim s hrpom crteža, ilustracija i slika nadahnutih modom je svakako pozitivan.
The medium of this one is watercolour on paper. When you're working with watercolours, you can sketch with a pencil first. You can always delete the pencil later. This will depend on the effect you're going for, I sometimes do it and sometimes I do not. One trick that I learned from watching tutorials from Zoe is that you should try out your watercolours before you apply them. Make a stroke and see if it is what you want. If not adjust the colour and your tool (in this case a brush). Typically, I do these test moves on the bottom of the sheet of paper I'm painting on because I figured I can always cut them out..or even leave them be. However, if you want a really clean look then best to do these tests on another sheet (but it has to be the same kind of paper as the sheet of paper you're using for painting).
Medij je akvarel na papiru. Kada crtate s vodenim bojama uvijek si možete prvo skicirati s olovkom.
What do you think about this illustration? Do you like it? What do you think about the outfit itself? I do really like this collection. In fact, I sketched another runaway look from this D&G collection. I'm not sure when I will find the time to colour it, but as soon as I do, I will post that one too. P.S. I'm trying to come up with a new blogging schedule, I still haven't worked it out. All I can tell you for now is that I probably won't post as often as I used to.
P.S. Pokušavam napraviti neki novi raspored objavljivanja, nisam još sve smislila, zasada vam samo mogu reći da vjerojatno neću objavljivati onako često kao nekad.
aww that looks awesome! =) xx

Ja sam ranije objavljivala 3 puta nedeljno, a sad jedva stignem i dva puta.
ReplyDeletehvala ti...mi smo žene nekakvo sve podložne tom perfekcionizmu, nekad nam to dobro i dođe, a nekad nam samo smeta.
