VISITING HVAR TOWN IN AUTUMN, STYLING MY ART PRINTED T-SHIRT
Buying t-shirts from a local printer with my own art printed on them proved a great idea. Besides, being a visual reminder and a motivation for me to keep working on my creative hobbies, these t-shirts have helped me refresh my wardrobe. Who knew that styling graphic t-shirts was so easy? Today I'm showing you a comfy outfit with a graphic t-shirt, one that I wore for sight-seeing Hvar town. I love to visit this beautiful town in Autumn when there aren't many tourists around and when (to quote the poet and songwriter Arsen Dedic): ' sky made of lead and sea of pines'.
Arsen knew how magical it is when it "rains on the islands in October." These photos were shot on a warm but cloudy and rainy day in October on the islands. Therefore, I couldn’t help but remember the song Don’t Give Up Ines which is one of my favorite songs of all time. I’ve been coming back to it regularly since my high school days. My favourite lines from song Ne daj se Ines are:
Ako svi ostarite i ta će mi mladost
Teško pasti
Jer sam sam na ovoj obali
Koju ste napustili i predali bezvoljno
A ponovo počinje kiša
U listopadu na otocima
More od olova i nebo od borova
Udaljeni glasovi koji se miješaju
Ljubavnice, broda, brata
Na brzinu pokupljeno rublje pred kišu
I nestalo je svjetla s tom bjelinom
Jos malo šetnje uz more i gotovo
BEHIND ME YOU CAN SPOT: THE OLDEST THEATRE IN EUROPE FOR COMMONERS AND THE CITY CATHEDRAL (A FEW WORDS ABOUT THEIR HISTORY BELLOW)
THE INVENTOR OF MODERN DACTYLOSCOPHY - IVAN VUCETIC (VUČETIĆ)- A NATIVE OF HVAR TOWN AND A CITIZEN OF ARGENTINA
In one of Hvar's parks, the one right next to the main square, you'll notice a beautiful mosaic that represents a finger tip. Ivan Vučetić ( born July 20, 1858 in Hvar and died in Argentina in 1925) is considered to be the father of modern dactyloscopy — the analysis and classification of fingerprints. It was Vučetić who first solved a case using fingertip analysis as a main proof in a murder case. Vučetić is credited with making the first positive fingerprint-based identification of a criminal back in 1892. Ivan Vučetić moved from his native Hvar town and Dalmatia region to Argentina. This was not uncommon in those times, in fact many Croats emigrated into South America over the 19th and 20th century. It was in Buenos Aires that Vučetić founded the Center for Dactyloscopy in and began employing a then-novel method of identifying criminals using their fingerprints. However, he faced a lot of back-lash as many were sceptic towards his discovery. He often had to defend both himself and his method. Well, as they say, all is well that ends well. With time his method was accepted and now we cannot imagine modern forensic science without it. To honour him, there is his bust in Hvar city and a forensic institute named after him in Zagreb. So, he did become acclaimed with time, both in his native and adoptive country.
THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT- HOW I WORE IT BEFORE?

DeleteThat is so cool about the fingerprint mosaic! I also really appreciate how that song/spoken word piece resonates with you and how you come back to it for solace. Thanks for the youtube link - I am listening to it as I read your post. :)
ReplyDeleteThat pleated skirt is one of my favourites of yours - everything looks good with it! You are the best advertisement for your art, Ivana!
Thank you Sheila.
DeleteHey Ivana, how you doing?! I hope you're having a nice beginning of the month :)
ReplyDeleteAs you I think autumn (and spring) are the perfect time to stroll around the city, specially through old town since they are not so full of tourists in that season if we compare it to summer for example :) Besides that this year the visitors are just a few.
Taking a walk is the perfect way to explore a city or a town, there's no magic in going in a car right? Haha! This way you are able to discover things like that mosaic and the theater (didn't know the oldest one of Europe is located in Hvar!)
And the song is a really good accessory to match with the mood of this post!
And about your printed art I really congratulate you for two things: wearing your own art as a celebration of you as creative and also for supporting the local print!
Pablo
Hey Fungi
Thank you Pablo.
DeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteThanks R.
DeleteDearest Ivana,
ReplyDeleteHvar really has its own flair with its stone buildings and large, light-colored cobblestones. And your self-designed T-shirt goes perfectly with the chic pleated skirt and jacket, which is the same color as the hair of the painted girl. Very beautiful photos!
Have a nice evening!
Hugs, Traude
