FRIDAY FASHION ILLUSTRATION: A WATERCOLOUR SELF- PORTRAIT IN MODIGLIANI STYLE

It's Friday and that means it's time for Fashion Illustration. Today I'm back with a watercolour illustration that is more portrait fashion illustration than a classical fashion illustration, meaning it depicts the upper part of the body, not the whole look. Sometimes it is good to focus more on the face and the details. The medium is watercolour pencils on A4 mixed media paper. The watercolour pencils I used are by Steadler brand and the mixed media paper (250g/m2) is by Royal talens (the links are neither sponsored nor affiliated, just trying to be helpful). I'm not focused on selling originals of my art right now, but if someone is really interested and wants to offer a fair price, you can always drop me an email. Making of this fashion illustration wasn't a terribly difficult process. It was smooth sailing for most part. I was browsing some of my art on Pinterest and looking for some art inspiration when it occurred to me that I could illustrate a photograph my husband took of me. I liked the hair and the bow on that photo, so I decided to use it as a reference. I turned the grey silk shirt into a red blouse for the purposes of this fashion illustration. I sketched the face and the hair with watercolour pencils, proceed to add more details and finalize the illustration by adding water. Thus I turned this watercolour sketch into a watercolour painting. Sometimes painting tires me more, sometimes less. I suppose it depends on many factors. I wouldn't do it if I didn't want to, that's for sure. Anyhow, this illustration would be what I could call my style. I wrote Modigliani style in the title of this post because that is what many people connect with this kind of elongated faces. I think I've been leaning toward this style before I heard of Modigliani. When it comes to artists that influenced my personal style, most of them were Croatian probably because that's the first art I came in contact with.

Looking back at these photographs, I'm amazed at my husband's portrait photography talent. There is really a range of emotion captured here. I really don't thank him enough for all the amazing photographs he has made of me over the years. It is true that taking photographs and nature trips has been a routine for us since we started dating and something that isn't blog related as such but it has become a part of this blog. We had been taking photos and enjoying local travel years before I started this blog or even considered blogging. Still, it makes sense to thank him because without his photography this blog wouldn't be the same. I take a lot of photographs for this blog myself, but most photographs you see of me were taken my him. These particular photographs were taken years ago  (see the original post here) when we had a semi-professional cam. Right now, we rely on our cellphones and yoga tablet for pics.
