ONE MORE REASON TO VISIT BLIDINJE: MOUNTAIN CHURCHES

In my last post, I explained why nature park Blidinje is more than worthy of a visit. If you ask me, Bosnia and Herzegovina is such an underrated destination, for it hides so many stunning natural oasis and hidden gems. This nature park is one of them. Within the park itself, there is so much to see and do. Today I'll show you (once again) the mountain Church of Saint Elias The Prophet. Moreover, there is another church in this nature park I need to bring to your attention. That would be the church of Virgin Mary of the Snow (located in vicinity of Blidinje lake).

MOUTAIN CHURCH LOCATED AT ALTITUDE OF 1204 METERS
I told you in the past that it was primarily due to friar Petar's efforts, that Blidinje became a nature park that spans over three municipalities and 364 square kilometers. Therefore, my visit to nature park Blidinje wouldn't be complete without stopping my this church and visiting friar Petar, the man who is to thank for this mountain oasis becoming a nature park in the first place. As you might remember if you read this post, friar Peter not only helped protect this area but also build an amazing mountain church in Masna Luka, Blidinje. I already showed you this church in another post, but I think another viewing won't hurt. Do you agree? Mountain church of Saint Elias The Prophet is truly beautiful. Located at 1204 meters of altitude and surrounded by breath-taking nature, this mountain church is a quite a sight.
A VIEW INSIDE OF THE CHURCH OF SAINT ELIAS THE PROPHET
The inside of the church is just as beautiful as the outside, so should you find yourself here, don't forget to step inside this beautiful mountain church. You can enjoy the stunning glass mosaics, art, sculptures and stone work. Besides, mountain churches are always special, aren't they? Personally, I found there is something quite enchanting about them.
BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING ART
If anything I'm an art lover, so visiting this church again, I couldn't help admire its beautiful mosaics and paintings. In fact, I gifted some of my paintings to friar Petar as well. One thing I love about this church are all the beautiful details, sculptures, mosaics and paintings. A bronze door, the work of sculptor Ilija is especially enchanting. But really the whole church is filled with stunning details. It really is such a work of art in itself. The green forest it is surrounded to serves like a perfect frame for this gorgeous mountain church.
This church is relatively new, only about 14 years old. The church of Saint Elias The Prophet and an accompanying house were both constructed in 2005. After that, friar  Petar created an art gallery and a house of prayer. Now, there is a whole complex here. They don't have any vacancies for the house of prayer this summer as upcoming seminars aren't for civilians (just clergy). However, this place is always open for a visit and you can visit in this isolated spot in the mountains whenever you like. Feel free to read about my last visit to this place (and about other things you can do in nature park Blidinje). I will leave you some links for my previous posts about Blidinje park bellow.

  20. The mountain location of the Church of Saint Elias The Prophet definitely already sets it apart and then there's the marvelous architecture. It was a little surprising to read that it is only 14 years old. I don't know why but I always expect churches in Europe to be old and historical but I guess that will come in time for this one. Thanks for showing us around!
