HOW TO STYLE A RED PUFFER IN A FEMININE WAY? (ČAPLJINA, BIH)

Today I have another winter outfit proposal for you. One of my favourite colours to wear in winter is red. If you ask me, winter is the perfect season to get out Red Riding Hood vibe on. Today's topic is:  How to style a red puffer jacket in a feminine way? I do love puffer jackets, but it is not always easy to style them in a feminine way. An easy to solution is to buy a puffer jacket that has a more feminine cut and design, but you don't really need to buy a new jacket, you just need to get a bit creative. For example, you can always belt the puffer jacket. By putting accent on the smallest part of your waist, you'll automatically create a more feminine silhouette.

This particular puffer is not exactly feminine in its cut and design, which is a small wonder since it was bought at  men's department. My husband bought it, but it was too small for him so I ended up wearing it. It is really warm and I love red, so this puffer made its way into my closet. Plus, it looks brand new. I wore it first time on this blog back in 2013 which makes it one of the first outfit I posted (you can see that old post here). To make it more feminine, I like to pair this puffer with skirts. If you want more tips, you can check out this post about my favourite winter outwear where I wrote a bit about wearing puffers.

Indeed, I have written about feminine winter outfits on my blog quite a few times (to see the last post on this subject click here) and it's a subject I never get tired of. There is a reason for it. You see, I wasn't always a winter girl.  I used to hate winter. I felt like it lasted forever even if it the cold weather usually lasted less than three months (people who live in colder regions must be terribly annoyed by us Mediterraneans who are always complaining about the weather). Despite the fact that the Mediterranean area I live in is typically blessed with plenty of sunshine and the winters here are not that cold, I disliked them immensely. I often had a feeling they were never going to end. However, with years I have learned to love and appreciate winter. I grew wiser.  I learned that being cold is optional, I learned that you can actually stay warm by picking up the right clothes (revolutionary, I know).  I even started to positively like winter fashion. Winter is actually quite beautiful once you learned to appreciate it.

These photographs were actually taken on the first day of the new year. We went to Čapljina (a lovely city not far from border with Croatia) to enjoy some sunshine. We often visit Čapljina because it's such a nice city to take a stroll in. The city is very neat, one of those small, nice and quiet places in which you can relax. Plus, there is a lovely walk by Neretva river. If you want to see more photographs of this city, you're welcome to check out my old posts from 2016 (here), 2015 (here) and 2013 (here).

Today it wasn't as nice and sunny as it was on the first day of this year. We went for a drive and planned to do some hiking, but it was so impossibly cold, we simply had to give up. It was so cold that I wore my teddy coat over my faux fur coat (yes, really!). I brought both coats with me because I planned to change into my teddy bear coat if it gets warmer but I ended wearing it over my faux fur one. Still, it was a beautiful day. Bellow you can see one photograph taking in Mostar dating back to 2013. That's six years ago, right? It seems like my personal style hasn't changed at all. I'm still crazy about pointed boots and skirts. Maybe some things never change.
a throwback to 2013 (my personal style is still pretty much the same)

Back to the subject of this post. How to style a red puffer jacket was it? I propose you to style it with red and black. Here you can see me wearing a red top that is kind of a DIY. It's a really busy top, I'll have to show it to you some day. Back in high school I used this zipped top to perfect my sewing and embroidery skills. I also drew some things on it with textile paints. So, basically my love for sewing and textile paints dates back to my teenage days. I enjoyed DIY projects back then. You know what? I still enjoy them now. I guess some things never change.

The skirt I'm wearing is from a local designer brand Bellissima (not sponsored). I love how unique this semi plaid skirt it. I wore it many times on this blog, so if you're looking for more inspiration on how to style a piece like this one, you can check out some of those posts (here, here and here). I also opted for a bit of print mixing in this outfit. The bag I'm wearing has leopard print. The snake print on the boots is more subtle (because they are black) but it is still fun to mix prints this way. What is your verdict on this outfit? Do you like it? Would you wear it yourself? How about this Herzegovian city? Would you like to visit it?

Thank you for reading. Let me know what you have been up to? I've been illustrating some more, so you can expect more fashion illustrations. I'm also thinking about making another post about decorating fashion illustrations. I think these kind of posts can be useful for blog photography as well. I like to use props in my photography, so I might share some tips on that. If there is anything you'd like to read about, do tell. That would be all for today. Let me know how you are doing. I hope life is treating you well. I wish you a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

  3. I always seem drawn more to red in winter, it's a fun colour to accessorise darker winter layers! I don't have a fun red coat like this though :) You always layer so well. I find I'm not that great at layering, as we don't really have a lot of cold weather here!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend! We spent yesterday by the bay celebrating Australia day despite the heat! :)

  8. Wow, I never thought, that this red puffer jacket was bought at men's department! You paired it perfect with that belt and with this lovely semi plaid skirt. Your winter outfit is really very feminine, you look so pretty!
I am not a winter girl too but I also learned to appreciate winter and to experiment with winter clothing.

  9. Uff puffer jackets... I don't have one but I associate this garment to my childhood, I must confess I didn't liked them a lot since I feel they made me look like a snow man.... but you really managed to pulled off a good and stylish outfit that looks like something that would appear in an editorial!

By the way red suits you really well and it is currently one of my favorite colors out there! You should wear this color more often and I should give a try to puff jackets, you know what they say, never say never!
