A SHORT VISIT TO BUNA NEAR MOSTAR (BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA)

Buna, that is, the Bunica river and the surrounding area is one of my favourite recreational sites in Herzegovina. Located only a short drive from Mostar, it is the perfect place to escape the city heat. Mostar is one of the hottest cities in the region, so an escape to a green oasis like this one is more than welcome. I often come here to relax and have a cup of coffee in the company of some really friendly ducks. You might remember this place from my numerous posts about it. Yes, I've told you about rivers Buna and Bunica lots of times. Both rivers spring from the same source and this whole area around them is perfect for little trips and getaways. This year summer has arrived a bit late, so the area is still as green as it would be in the spring time. It has been really hot lately, so I'm digging the greenery.

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT- CHEERLEADER VIBES
This outfit was a non-brainier.It was hot and I wanted to be comfortable. What is a girl to do if not wear comfy sandals, a cropped top and a pleated bellow the knee skirt? That's what I call a comfy styling.  When it comes to colour combinations, yellow and blue is a colour combo I'm quite fond of. This skirt seems to look great with everything, but I knew I had to wear it with this yellow top. Not just because of the yellow and blue combo but because of the print as well. The blue airplane on the print matches the skirt quite nicely. Plus, the top has some black details that in turn match well with the black boromira sandals. I was feeling matchy-matchy that way. In retrospective, this outfit is giving me the cheerleader vibes. I think it might be the combination of a top and a pleated skirt.
HOW I WORE THESE ITEMS BEFORE?
CROPPED YELLOW TOP- BY SKANDAL - This yellow top is by another Croatian brand that doesn't exist anymore (Skandal). I bought it as a teenager and that means I had it for a really long time. I like to wear it with high waisted items because it is cropped. See how I styled it here, here and here.
BLUE PLEATED VINTAGE SKIRT- This skirt got its own post a few days ago- check it out here 10 WAYS TO STYLE A PLEATED BLUE SKIRT. This would be the eleventh time I'm wearing this vintage skirt that was giften to me by my sister-in-law.
BLACK BOROMIRA PLATFORM SANDALS- These sandals are by Borovo, an iconic Croatian brand known for quality (and stylish) shoes. I bought these sandals about three years ago and I still wear them a lot. See how I styled them here, here herehere,  here and here
HAND MADE BLUE NECKLACE- I didn't manage to find any close up of this necklace in my previous post, despite having made it years ago. I will leave you this link with similar creations.

BUNA- A GREEN OASIS NEAR MOSTAR CITY
I wrote about Buna many times and for a good reason. It is a gorgeous area and I visit it frequently. Bunica recreational zone is such a lovely place, especially in summer time. Swimming is allowed as the rivers aren't dangerous. I'd say they're much a safer option that Neretva river that is quite cold but also very potent and fast. If you're staying in Mostar, this is a must see as well. Alternatively, you can also choose to stay here. There are motels and villas here, and there is also some private accommodation available. If you're a bird lover (especially a duck lover) bring some bread with you, because the ducks here seem to be always hungry. Moreover, ducks are not the only birds you can see there. If you're into bird-watching, this is a pretty good spot. I've saw some interesting birds here in the past, mostly woodpeckers, so I'd say Bunica is a nice destination for bird watching. For example in 2013, I showed you a photograph I took of a beautiful bird Euroasian Hoopoe. The same year, I showed you the spring of river Buna that is said to be the most powerful spring in Europe.  If, you want to see more of this place, you can read about one of my earliest visits here (2013), you can see an outfit post with Buna in the background here (2013), you can read about spring time and my love of flowers here (2017), you can read about my most recent visit here (2017), you can read about winter magic in Buna revisited post here (2016), you can read about summer magic here (2015). Bellow you can find even more links to some of my older posts about Buna and my visits to this place:
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA: MOSTAR AREA HAS A LOT TO OFFER
Besides being a beautiful city, Mostar has the added benefit of having great destinations in vicinity. That makes it a great city base for exploring Bosnia and Herzegovina. I wrote about this in the past and I will wrote more in the future. I like to blog about Bosnia and Herzegovina as this country is pretty underrated as a tourist destination. During the years I lived here, I got to learn a lot about Herzegovina in particular. This Mediterranean region really has a lot to offer. Expect more travel posts about Herzegovina in the following weeks.

  3. Hello dear Ivana, so good to see that you're taking us back to the urban places around Mostar, since some times these are the kind of escapades that we can have more often, but paradisiac beaches and beautiful landscapes are also a must!

I love how you took the urban promenade to a cheerleader-cool preppy girl approach with this lovely look, specially for the combination of colors that is so playful and full of joy.

    Keep enjoying these summer days!

  4. Oh boy that sounds hot. It gets hot here too but it is the humidity that makes so awful it is like living in the jungle and because of the humidity it does not cool down much at night. But we do have beaches to escape to, though more difficult this year due to the virus.

And LOVE this look with the pleated skirt!!

  6. A green oasis is indeed more than welcome on a hot day, and Buna seems to be a particularly enchanting one. Your outfit is gorgeous too. I'm very much in love with that blue pleated skirt and pairing it with that cheerful yellow top makes for a match made in heaven. We're expecting a heatwave here in Belgium, so I'll be off in search of a little oasis of my own. Or I could always look at your wonderful photos of Buna and imagine I am there! xxx

E poi quei colori vivaci ti stanno così bene, sei carinissima!
