FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS: GREEN DRESSES FROM VALENTINO'S SPRING AND SUMMER 2020 RTW COLLECTION
Hello dear readers or fellow bloggers. You know, just the other day fellow blogger Pablo asked me whether I had seen the latest Valentino's collection. The funny thing is that I was actually thinking about illustrating some of recent Valentino designs at the time and I finally found the time. Pierpaolo Piccioli has been doing great as a creative director of Valentino and I simply love the direction he's been heading in for the last few years. Today I'll show you some of my new fashion illustrations and sketches inspired by what the brand Valentino showed us on runaways, more precisely their Spring and Summer 2020 collection. I also illustrated some of the looks from their 2019 Spring and Summer collection. You can see them here and here. If I manage to find the time for it, I might make more Valentino themed illustrations. Scroll down to see more and leave me a comment.
COLOURED PENCILS ON MIXED MEDIA PAPER- ILLUSTRATING A SHORT GREEN DRESS
Bellow you can see two fashion drawings I did, both of them using coloured pencils of no particular brands (literally some old no name pencils). I used a green and a yellow marker for the finishing touches. One of my fashion illustration shows the green dress and the whole look, while the other focuses more on a close up. I love how they went with a natural look for this model. I can't tell if she is wearing any make up at all. She probably is (at least some foundation) but it looks so natural, you cannot see it. Anyhow, the model looks absolutely beautiful in this short neon green dress. I'm not too crazy about the bags in this collection (they are just ok nothing special) but I do like that the models are wearing flat sandals. It gives the whole collection a summery feeling. In retrospective, I'd say this collection has been influential. The collection was dominated by white, but as you can see here, there were also some bold coloured looks. I've definitely seen a lot of green around.
ACRYLIC PAINTS ON MIXED MEDIA PAPER - ILLUSTRATING A LONG GREEN DRESS
This fashion illustration was a lot more time consuming then the previous two. More consuming that the two of them together. This gorgeous green gown is anything but easy to illustrate. I used acrylic paints to illustrate this beautiful Valentino gown. It took me ages to finish it. You don't see acrylic paints used often in fashion illustration, but I personally enjoy using them.

How's life been treating you? Both husband and I are sick and down with a cold, so I haven't been venturing out at all. Just staying at home, cooking, cleaning, reading and illustrating. Thank you for stopping by. Take care and stay safe.

DeleteHello Ivana, hope you had a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all thank you so much for mentioning me and for reading my comment, it made me so happy to see my name in today's blog post and it is curious that our minds were connected with these concepts by Valentino right?! :D Thanks for always reading me!
And know talking about the collection I love that Valentino is one of those fashion houses that are the common classic place but they are always looking for new ways to explore art, fashion, culture and the way we connect with beauty, all of this exploring technology. I love this green dress because is one of those fashion pieces that shines just by itself and the work behind this dress is stunning.... your illustration is the best way to show the expression and the aura of this piece: the pledges, the model and the way green changes of tones!
Great work as usual my friend! Let me know if you find something interesting to illustrate in the haute couture collection!

ReplyDeleteValentino has my number with those gorgeous greens! I love seeing how you build the illustrations - that you're not just doing the dress + limbs, but are actually building them from the body out. Well done!
