My necklace (outfit post) / Moja ogrlica (odjevna objava)

DJEVOJČICI MJESTO IGRAČKE

Ljerko, srce moje, ti si lutka mala,
Pa ne slutiš smisla žalosnih soneta,
Kesteni pred kućom duhu tvom su meta,
Još je deset karnevala do tvog bala.
Ti se čudiš, dušo. Smijat si se stala
Ovoj ludoj priči. Tvoja duša sveta
Još ne sniva kako zbore zrela ljeta.
Gledaš me ko grle. Misliš—to je šala.
Al će doći veče kad ćeš, ko Elvira,
Don Huana sita i lažnih kavalira,
Sjetiti se sjetno nježne ove strofe.
Moje će ti ime šapnut moja muza,
A u modrom oku jecati će suza
Ko za mrtvim clownom iza katastrofe.

                                                                             A.G. Matoš

TO A LITTLE GIRL INSTEAD OF A TOY

My darling Ljerka, you're a little doll,
grasping not the meaning of sorrowful sonnets,
your spirit focuses on the chestnut tree in front of your home,
there are ten more carnivals until your ball.
You wonder, my sweet. You have started to laugh
at this crazy story. Your sacred soul
comprehends not how the mature years speak.
You watch me as a child. You think- Tis a joke.
But there will come an evening, when like Elvira,
tired of Don Juans and false cavaliers,
you will remember with melancholy this tender stanza.
My muse will whisper to you my name,
and in the dark blue eye a tear will cry,
like for a dead clown after a disaster.*
                                                                      A.G. Matoš

*my translation

Usually I find it challenging to translate poetry, especially Croatian poetry, because I'm never quite sure I can do it justice. However, I couldn't resist translating this poem. The words are quite simple, but the message is so strong.

This is actually the outfit I wore for Valentine's day, which was surprisingly much warmer than today. This morning, I watched a pigeon wrestle hopelessly with the mad wind. If it hard for me (weighting exactly 220 times more than an average pigeon or so the calculator says and they don't lie) to walk straight when the wind hits me, I can only imagine how it is for him ( I must use a personal pronoun because I always have a hard time calling animals it, even if grammar tells us it is correct. I might call a spider it, but a bird? Impossible.). However, in the air the pigeon is in his element and can maneuver the winds...and being ground bound creature, I do envy them occasionally. So my pity for this pigeon goes only to a limited degree because I envy the fact he can just spread his wings. This morning I sort of felt like I was in Windhaven...and I just realized why I read that novel in a heartbeat!

I have pretty much build this look around this necklace I designed and made last spring and I must say I like the result. There was quite a lot of layering in this outfit. Blue polo neck was worn under a very warm blue jacket and on top of all that there was also a black coat. These jeans I initially bought because they're high waist but with years I'm discovering all kind of benefits to them. Now that I think about it, they will probably get a post of their own just like that floral dress did.

This is one of my favourite outfit from you, you look very stylish and chic here. I love the whole boots and coat combo. And I can't believe you made the necklace yourself, is there anything you can't do? You paint, cook and do DIY, you have my respect my friend. xx

  29. That is a beautiful poem. Being childlike in my amusement is what I tend to strive for each day. A simple thing brings such amazement to the eyes of a child.

I did notice your necklace first! Often times we build an outfit based on accessories, and that is not a bad thing at all!

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism.
