FRIDAY FASHION ILLUSTRATION: BALL POINT PEN & PAINT 3D DIGITAL ART

Hello dear readers and welcome to another Friday Fashion Friday. This is a regular feature on my blog where I share my fashion illustrations and sketches as well as talk about fashion and art in general.  Today I have a fun post to share with you. We are going to explore different art mediums, from traditional to digital. In addition, you'll get to see some of my new sketches. Art is all about hard work and that applies to simpler art techniques as well. If you find yourself struggling with art, remember that if it was easy everyone would do it. Finding time for art is hard, we all know that, but we just have to keep trying, don't we? Scroll down to see and read more.
BALLPOINT PEN ILLUSTRATING
I wrote about ballpoint pen illustration in my last feature. It is a good medium to opt for, if you're pressed for time or financially challenged. It is an interesting medium for both beginners and advanced artists. I was surprised to learn that there are artists that use it because they are so confident about their art skills, they don't feel they need a rubber. I can definitely see how not having the possibility to delete some line with a rubber might change your drawing strategy. It is also educating to be able to see every line. In short, ballpoint pen is used by many, for various reasons. Bellow you can see a ballpoint pen sketch followed by digital art collage. I have used Paint 3D computer program to manually colour the collage you can see bellow. I also used a yellow marker to add some jazz to this ball point pen fashion illustration. The Barbie doll I illustrated was wearing a dress I made myself. It was eventually gifted to a family member. I tend to buy Barbies and then customize and alter them  before I gift them. Sometimes I also sew and design original outfits for them.  I feel that way my gifts are more original.

EDITING MY TRADITIONAL MEDIUM ART WITH PAINT 3D
Next fashion illustration I'm sharing with you is old new. Originally it was painted with oil pastels and I posted it last year here. I was quite happy with that one. If you're wondering about inspiration, I don't mind sharing that it was  a look from Valentino's couture 2019 collection.  Have you ever seen any oil pastel fashion illustration? I don't think I have. I'm not saying that I invented oil pastel fashion illustration, I'm just saying that it is not a common technique. I opted for it a couple of times last year and I was proud to see how well I've done. Today I won't talk about illustration with oil pastels. Rather, I will show you how I have painted over it (using watercolour tool in Paint 3D computer program) to design new looks. Scroll down to see more.

Bellow you can see more of my art projects. Some of these illustrations are made using only ballpoint pen and with some others I added markers or digital colouring. It is always fun to share my art projects with you. My fashion illustration art skills are always evolving. I don't always have time for art, but when I do find it, I work hard at it.  It's something I do mostly as a hobby, albeit there is also an option of buying most of my art (an example here).

NOW, IT'S TIME TO SHARE MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE
My personal favourite of the day is this black dress I designed using Paint 3D. I think it turned out really well. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. Happy 1st of May!
As always, I'm very grateful for your visits, comments and feedback. Take care.

  1. Hey Ivana, how you doing? Hope everything is going well and hope you had a magical birthday :)

I love to see that you're staying safe anda creative and your drawings always motivate me to keep pushing my inner creator : ) Ahhh ball point pens, actually there are many artistic resources and tools but nothing like a ball point pen, I remember them from high school and I still use them since there is something I always have with me, I'd say this is the tool that i use to create the most, even most of the drawings are just doodles hehe.

Loved that you used a doll for the pose! All the drawings are beyond inspiring :D

PS: Loved the new layout of the site!

  2. It's so fun seeing how you experiment with different things with your art - I think it's good to try different things now and then! Not that I'm as creative as you, but it's still good to mix things up a little bit!

Hope you have a nice weekend ahead of you :)

  8. I once made an entire Barbie doll clothing wardrobe, all hand-crocheted by me, for my nieces - this was over 15 years ago, though.

I really like seeing your ballpoint sketches and how you've used modern media to jazz them up and change them. That second-to-last black dress illustration is my favourite.

    Have a wonderful weekend, Ivana!

  12. I love looking at all of your sketches of models and the fashion they are rocking. I totally agree with you. Even it is hard for me to find inspiration and time to draw by hand. Ballpoint pen is still good for art. You don't need the highest end goods to still unleash your creativity. I love that you still make the most out of the simplest materials.
