VRBOSKA (AKA LITTLE VENICE) ON ISLAND HVAR, CROATIA

Island Hvar hides many gems and I'm very excited to share them all with you. Today I'm taking you to a little picturesque village named Vrboska and nicknamed 'Little Venice'. Located at the end of a narrow bay, this tiny village is an ideal place to escape the stresses of modern life. Because of its lovely bridges, Vrboska was nicknamed 'Little Venice'. Everything from the pine forest surrounding it to the traditional Dalmatian architecture within is absolutely beautiful. The views are simply amazing. No wonder it is increasingly popular with the tourists.

This village started its life as a fishing port and its deep bay still offers protection for boats and yachts.  It is the perfect place to stroll around and admire boats and traditional stone houses. The little island within the bay is particularly beautiful. This little village has only around 500 residents. Most tourists visit Vrboska during the summer. There are many stunning beaches in the vicinity and many consider it an ideal place for quiet family tourism. Private accommodation is a great option as there are many lovely apartments to choose from.
IS AUTUMN A GOOD TIME TO VISIT? HOW TO GET TO VRBOSKA?
Now is a great time to visit if you're the type to avoid crowds. The climate here is pretty mild, so even a swim is not out of the question. The distance from Jelsa to Vrboska is only 4 km and you can easily walk the distance. So, if you want to visit Vrboska the daily catamaran from Split city to Jelsa is a good option. You can also take the ferry to Starigrad city and get to Vrboska from there. I actually visited Vrboska years ago but forgot about it. I walked through it when I participated in the UNESCO protected  traditional catholic ceremony known as 'Za križen', but it was night time so I didn't really see much. This time I took my time and I was really amazed by how beautiful this tiny village is. I will blog more about the sights to be find some other time. I will keep it on the shorter side this time.

All I'm going to say is that I had such a nice time strolling this little village and I'm happy I have finally payed it a visit. I simply adore island Hvar, I can never get tired of it. If you're curious about this island, feel free to check out some of my older posts:

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT
Now, let us talk about my outfit. I actually wore a tartan jacket but I took it off because it was quite warm. Nothing in this outfit is really new but I don't think I have ever worn these items together. I quite liked this styling. Besides it being comfortable, I was also happy with how it looked. One thing I like about this outfit are the colours. I think outfit is a great example of how you don't have to go dark just because autumn arrived. We can wear light colours in autumn and winter as well. This  white vintage skirt is one of my favourite pieces and I liked the idea of pairing it with lighter colours. So, I  paired my vintage skirt with a lilac knit. I also wore brown boots. I think brown is a good alternative to black, especially when it comes to shoes. Light shoes in autumn and winter can be tricky to maintain, but with brown ones you don't have to worry about keeping them pristine.

 HOW I WORE IT BEFORE?
Now is the time to talk about how I wore these clothing items in the past and to link up some of my old outfit posts.

THE WHITE VINTAGE PENCIL SKIRT
I actually blogged about this skirt before. You can see 7 ways to style this pencil skirt here
THE LILAC KNIT SWEATER
I wear this lilac knit with all kinds of outfits, from casual to dressy. I love pairing it with dresses. You can see how I styled it here, here and here
THE HIGH CROC BOOTS
These boots are so practical and comfortable. I love wearing them. You can see how I styled them in the past here, here and here
THE GREEN TARTAN JACKET
I didn't really wear it this time, but if you are interested, you can see how I wore it in the past here, here and here

So, tell me what do you think about Vrboska? Is it beautiful? Do you like to wear pencil skirts? Do you have any vintage pieces like this one? Do you have pencil skirts or some items that you wear all year around? Do you pair your pencil skirts with knits? Do you wear boots often in autumn and winter? What are your style essentials? Do you like a lighter or a darker colour palette for autumn and winter or do you like to mix and match?
Thank you for reading and visiting. Have a lovely weekend!

  1. That lilac knit is lovely on you and looks great with the pencil skirt - while I don't have any vintage skirts I do like wearing pencil skirts through the year to the office - they look great with tights and boots like yours here :)

It looks like such a nice village too!

Hope that you have a great weekend ahead of you! It will be a quiet one here, we are all a little unwell and the smoke haze means we need to stay indoors mostly!

  10. Vrboska looks beautiful, just the type of olde worlde village I love to explore with interesting architecture and cobbled streets.
I agree with you about brown boots, they require a lot less polishing. Personally I'm not a fan of pencil skirts (years of enforced formal attire as a corporate wage slave) plus having a prosthetic hip means I've only got one curvy hip, the other side isn't! The skirt looks lovely on you though, ideal with the lavender jumper.
Hooray for not having to wear a coat in November! x

  11. Dearest Ivana
Fortunately, Vrboska - 'Little Venice' - is not as flooded as the real Venice at the moment. It looks really picturesque there and is certainly worth seeing. Very nice also your outfit - so you bring really light and friendly colors in the dark season.
    Hugs and bestweekend-wishes,

  19. What an enchanting place the village of Vrboska is. Thank you so much for taking me along on your visit. Your outfit is perfect too. Lilac is a lovely colour on you, and it looks especially gorgeous combined with the brown boots, which is such a scrumptious shade. I did take a pair of brown boots on my little break, and even if I had another comfortable pair with me, I wore my brown ones every day. Hope you'll have a great week, Ivana! xxx

  24. What a beautiful place that is! You're really an excellent ambassador for your country, Ivana!

I've made an effort this year to keep some bright colours out for fall/winter. I do tend to gravitate to darker colours, but I find that they really can drag my mood down, so I have yellows and pinks out to remind me that there is sun above the clouds! I love your lilac sweater and pretty pencil skirt. I am a big fan of pencil skirts, and many of mine are vintage, either from the 80s or even older, from the 1960s.

  25. Vrboska, it is a difficult to spell for me haha! But I would like to go, it definitely reminds me of Venice, actually there are a lot of places that have the same structure: the waterway, the tiny pear and the houses by the river, but this is quite magical due to the architecture of the buildings around. Is it difficult to get there?

And about the outfit, I feel that here in Europe some brighter colors are not wore very often during winter, they tend to go for neutrals. But last year I decided that i wanted to fight cold with brighter tones, that's why I really like the lilac sweater, actually I am looking for a piece in this color.... It looks very good on you and looks so comfortable and cozy!
