HOW TO ELEVATE YOUR STYLE WHILE STAYING IN?

1. SHOP YOUR CLOSET AND FIGURE OUT WHAT LOOKS GOOD ON YOU
Shopping your closet is one of the best things you can do for the environment. This situation is the perfect opportunity to you to finally try on all the clothes you have in your closets. Figure out what looks good on you and what doesn't. Try out new combos, organize a little fashion runaway in your home. Get to know the clothes you own.

2. ORGANIZE AND CLEAN YOUR CLOSETS
Are you one of those people who doesn't organize their closets often enough? I know I am. However, even if you are pretty orderly, you can still take this time to figure out ways to make your closet space more efficient.

3. IRON OR MEND YOUR CLOTHES
Do you know that beautiful delicate pleated dress that you've been meaning to iron for ages? Well, now might be the perfect time to do it. Do you know that sweater you adore but you keep forgetting there is a hole in it that you need to take care of? Do it now. If you have any blazers whose buttons have fallen out and need to be replaced, well this is the time to do it.

4.  LEARN HOW TO DO FASHION ILLUSTRATION AND/OR MAKE SOME FASHION SKETCHES
Have you always admired fashion illustrators? Why not learn more about it? I have ton of fun projects you can do with fashion illustrations on my blog. - FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: WATERCOLOUR PENCILS -IVANA'S FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAYFASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: INSPIRED BY COLOURS OF AUTUMNA GIRL IN A RED GOWN: FASHION ILLUSTRATION OF THE DAY-CUSTOMIZING A NOTEBOOK WITH A FASHION ILLUSTRATIONFASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: ILLUSTRATING A BLACK DRESS FROM DOLCE & GABBANA COLLECTION10 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR FASHION ILLUSTRATION SKILLS- HOW TO CREATE A 3D FASHION ILLUSTRATION DRESS WITH DRY FLOWERS?- FRIDAY FASHION ILLUSTRATION: HAT OBSESSED -FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY INSPIRED BY SUMMER STYLE- FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: SUMMER TO AUTUMN TRANSITION- FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: ILLUSTRATED TOTE BAGS-FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: HAT OBSESSED - FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: NEW AUTUMN INSPIRED ART

5. WATCH ALL THE RUNAWAY SHOWS YOU WANTED BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO
Now is a good time to watch all those fashion shows you didn't have the time to watch before. Sit back and enjoy some wonderful fashion designs. See both new and old fashion shows.

6. FIGURE OUT SPRING AND SUMMER FASHION, PREPARE YOURSELF IN ADVANCE
Why not use this time to prepare for spring and summer. Study the trends, see what is in or just ignore them completely and think of your future spring and summer outfits.

7. DIY FASHION PROJECTS,  PAINT ON CLOTHES OR MAKE ACCESSORIES FROM OLD CLOTHES AND SCRAPS
This is a good time for DIY fashion projects. Why not try making something new and creative from things you have at home? If you're not creative, then look for help and inspiration online. There are a lot of creative people who don't mind sharing their ideas with you, myself included.

8. READ FASHION MAGAZINES  AND FASHION BLOGS ONLINE
Obviously, while you're staying in, one of ways you can use your time is by reading fashion magazines and blogs. Maybe you already do it. Well, now you don't have to worry about spending too much time browsing fashion blogs. You're being a responsible person by choosing to stay in and read.

9.  STUDY THE COLOUR ANALYSIS AND FIND FLATTERING COLOURS FOR YOURSELF
Have you been interested in the colour theory but haven't managed to figure out what are the best colours for you. Well, now is the perfect time to study and research the colour analysis and figure out what tonalities fit your skin and hair.

10. READ FASHION BOOKS

Reading fashion books is another fun fashion related thing to. I've blogged about some of my favourite fashion reads before.

HOW TO BE PARISIAN WHEREVER YOU ARE?

11. EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT THE HISTORY OF FASHION OR A PARTICULAR DESIGNER; DO SOME FASHION RESEARCH

Education is always a worthy pursuit. Why not use this time to learn more about the history of fashion or about some designer you always wanted to know more about? You can also research the possible future of fashion.

12. LEARN HOW TO SEW FOLLOWING ONLINE EDITORIALS
Why not learn how to sew? You can start with really easy stuff and work your way from there. Maybe you'll be able to sew something before this lockdown ends? Don't underestimate yourself. Learning new things and developing new skills is always good.

13. TRY ON DIFFERENT HAIRSTYLES OR MAKE UP LOOKS
Why not experiment with different hairstyle or make up looks? You can finally learn to braid or curl your hair. You can try styling your hair in a variety of ways. Similarly, you can experiment with make up.

14. MAKE A FOLDER WITH ALL YOUR OLD OUTFITS AND STUDY THEM
One of the advantages of having a blog is that you basically have your own online diary. However, if you don't have a blog, you can consider making a folder on your computer and putting your best or worst outfits in there. Analyze your style and figure out what works for you. You can also make different folders for different styles and keep your fashion inspiration in there.

15. SIT DOWN AND ANALYZE YOUR STYLE, FIND YOUR INNER FASHION ANIMAL
Spending time at home can get boring so why not sit down and try to really analyze your style and clothes. How do your clothes make you feel and why? What is really important to you? How do you use clothes? Is there a style that makes you particularly happy? Is there a clothing item you love? You can learn a lot about yourself by analyzing your clothes. A bit of soul searching might be just what you need in times likes these.

16. RESEARCH SUSTAINABILITY IN FASHION AND FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO IT
You can also think about ways to make your fashion choices more sustainable. Read about it, write down notes and think about what strategies would work best for you.

17. WATCH FASHION DOCUMENTARIES AND FILMS
Take this time to watch fashion documentaries and films. There are some really good ones out there.

18. VISIT FASHION EXHIBITIONS ONLINE
There are many museums that are open for the option of virtual viewing and visiting. Some of them have fashion exhibitions you can visit online (see more here).

19. CREATE YOUR OWN BEST DRESSED LIST FOR THE LAST DECADE
Write down your own best dressed list for the last decade.  It does't have to be about celebs. You can do one for yourself too or for your friends or for all of you. Turn it into a social game.

20. CREATE A FASHION QUIZ AND ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO TAKE IT
Create a fashion quiz and invite your friends to take it or make up a fashion game with them, why not?

Thank you for reading and visiting. Have a lovely day!

  1. Some great ideas here and some beautiufl photographs of your stunning part of the world.
I do try and keep on top of the mending and ironing pile, I like everything hanging in my wardrobe to be ready to wear immediately but I think I shall get everything out at some point this week just to thoroughly check!
    Stay safe and healthy. xxx

  3. These are such fun ideas, and very creative ones too! When I have time (or I need a break from the kids, ha!) I like to go outfit plan in my wardrobe, it's very relaxing! Until I hear hubby calling out wondering where I am as the kids have driven him crazy, hehe!

It would be nice to have a little more time to relax and do fun things like this while at home, but I'm so lucky to be able to have this time with the kids!

Hope that you had a great weekend! :) We had a quiet one at home of course!

  15. Hey Ivana, how you doing?! Thank you so much for including me in your latest blog post, I really appreciate this kind gesture in these weird times :) Your support means a lot and that's the cool things from blogger friends!

This is such an useful post filled with great ideas that I haven't seen in other blogs, of course fashion is not cancelled in this lockdown season, actually I'm taking the time to spot all the trends that are coming and I also noticed some fashion archives are free to navigate.... like the one from Vogue Italia, check it out if you can since you speak Italian that could be useful for you :)

I have also seen that some magazines are free to consult, and the options of books are infinite right? I am currently reading the illustrated story of Coco Chanel, but there tons of options! You can also learn a lot from fashion documentaries right? The options are endless and there is no time to get bored haha.

This could also be the great time to analyze our shopping habits in order to enhance them and to spot really good garments that could last more than a season!

    All the best for you!

    1. Thank you so much Pablo for your awesome and informative comment. I need to check out Vogue Italia. I had a peek at their website recently but I didn't manage to find the archives yet. Books are also a great option...and that illustrated story sounds absolutely fascinating.

  18. You are absolutely right: we must count ourselves lucky to have a roof over our heads! I also count myself lucky that we have a garden, even if it is small, as now I'll only be working 2 days a week, I can at least go outside and sit in the garden if the weather's fine. I've been playing around with my wardrobe, trying out new things and wearing things that I haven't worn in a long time. Having more time to plan my outfits feels like such a luxury. I'll also have oodles of time for my seasonal wardrobe changeover, which always entails sorting out my clothes, and doing repairs if necessary, instead of letting them languish in a pile in my mending basket. I'll draw the line at ironing though, which I absolutely hate, and which I'll only do when absolutely necessary :-) Have a lovely day, and stay safe and healthy, Ivana! xxx

  30. I just love this list, Ivana! I'm still going in to the office (an essential business) but will be taking some half days and full days off here and there and a few of these are already on my list. The others are a lot more fun ideas and we definitely need some of those during this time. But can you imagine having to do this back in the 60's or 70's when we did have TV and phones but that was it? No internet to get the things we can only get online now. No face time with family and friends. We are so non-isolated these days - even when we're in isolation. I do love to see your beautiful drawings in your posts and I think that last figure in the fuschia dress and black vest is you? Thank you so much for this wonderful list and take care of yourself!

  32. I think that I would definitely like to use some of my time to mend some of my clothes, and what better than to do it now, with the sheer abundance of free time we currently have? I think that this is a great post - it's hard to stay active during this quarantine, but keeping our minds busy is one really important thing that I think we can all do.

I hope you're staying safe during this quarantine!
