14 WAYS TO STYLE ONE BLUE DENIM SKIRT: SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES

Sustainable fashion is such a hot topic right now, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into a fashion revolution. More and more people are trying to minimize their carbon print by re-wearing their clothes and shopping their closets. One good way to build a functioning wardrobe you'll love to shop is to make sure you have a couple of essential items in it. These basic pieces can help you shop your closet more easily and become more sustainable in your fashion choices. A denim skirt is one such classical and essential item.  Today I'll show you ten ways to style a denim skirt. I had this particular denim skirt for a couple of years, it's by Croatian denim brand Amadeus (not sponsored) that I can recommend for its quality denim. For me this skirt is one of those items that are season-less and by that I mean those clothing items that can be worn in any season. If you're creative enough, you can figure out a way to wear most of your clothes in any season, but some items are easier to transition into a new season with. A blue denim skirt is one such item, I believe. Scroll down to see fourteen ways to wear a denim skirt.

1.  WITH A PRINTED GREEN T-SHIRT (FOR WARM WEATHER)
Since it's still summer, I figured I might start with a summer outfit I wore recently but haven't had the chance to share yet. For this summer styling, I paired my denim skirt with a printed Madonna ( Lourdes) t-shirt a pair of comfy sandals and a straw hat. A very suitable combo for easy summer hiking in Mostar. I love pairing printed tees with denim skirt, it's such an easy and effortlessly cool look. It's been ages since I've last worn this printed souvenir t-shirt. In fact, there is a whole story behind this tee.

The art on this tee depicts Virgin Mary and it's a souvenir from Lourdes. When I originally published this post I planned to write about how my father visited both  Fatima and Lourdes in the nineties and brought me this tee as a souvenir, but I ended up talking only about Fatima (a Portuguese town, a home to famous apparition site devoted to Virgin Mary). I totally neglected to mention Lourdes (a French city that is also a home to an apparition site) but that is where I assume my dad got this tee for me. I often wore this t-shirt as a kid. The reason why I saved this printed tee was  mostly for sentimental reasons. I was honestly surprised when I have tried it on and discovered that it still fits me ( I try to examine my closet regularly for one never know what one might find there). I always forget that I was a tall child, growing to my full height by the time I was 11. So, a surprising number of my childhood items still fits me. I finished this outfit with a straw bag and a tropical pair of sandals I've been wearing non stop this summer. I can't wait to reach 30 wears and post about it.

 2. WITH A TURTLENECK AND BLAZER (FOR COLDER OR TRANSITIONAL WEATHER)
My second outfit proposal is all about transitional styling. I wore this outfit last spring while it was still a bit cold, but it would work just as well as an autumn styling. Bellow you can see how I styled my denim skirt with a pale pink turtleneck and a white blazer. I also wore biker boots and tights to keep warm. Transitioning your denims skirt into autumn and winter shouldn't be hard, just remember to wear leggings or tights and pair them with warm boots and  outwear.

 3. WITH A RED BLAZER  FOR TRANSITIONAL WEATHER (AUTUMN OR SPRING)
This combo is simply perfect for transitional weather. You can wear a styling like this one in both autumn and spring (as well as in transitional seasons). This denim skirt look features a pretty white blouse, a red blazer, a white bag, a pair of tights and a pair of block heels. The combination of colours was intended to make the look more elegant. In this outfit, I showed you how to style a denim skirt in a feminine and chic way, without compromising on comfort. The block heels make this outfit look more polished and they are actually quite comfortable. Heels are a good choice for when you want to get a bit dressed up. A denim skirt doesn't have to be a casual look. In fact, you can look elegant and well put together if you know how to style your denim skirt the right way.

4. WITH AN ART PRINTED T-SHIRT AND A STATEMENT BELT ( FOR WARM WEATHER )
My next proposal is another warm weather hiking outfit, but it might work well as an everyday spring or summer outfit. In this styling, I paired my favourite denim skirt with an art print t-shirt I have had since I was a teenager. There is a whole story behind this tee as well. I also wore a straw hat and a pair of sneakers. It is great when practical items, such as straw hats and sneakers, become trendy. Fashion doesn't have to always be crazy. I ended up linking this outfit a lot and I might wear it again.

5. WITH A FRINGED PINK PONCHO TOP (FOR WARM AND TRANSITIONAL WEATHER)
I loved pairing my denim skirt with this pink poncho top. The fringes add a bit of visual interest. This is also a cute example of summer layering that could also serve you in the first days of autumn. Time flies, so I might recycle this outfit soon enough. I think I could wear this combo for autumn if I wore long sleeves under this pink top (and maybe also tights under it). I actually wore this top a couple of times in winter so I know it can be done. What do you think about this look?

6.   WITH A CROPPED RED SHIRT AND SNEAKERS (FOR WARM AND TRANSITIONAL WEATHER)
One more hiking outfit for warm and transitional weather. This is a good look to transit into autumn with. Here I wore a red shirt over a black cropped top. I tied the shirt into a knot but if I wanted to make this look more suitable for colder weather, I would probably tuck in the shirt and wear a blazer over it. I might just well do that. No need to comment on the sneaker and denim skirt combo, I hope. Sporting comfortable sneakers with a denim skirt will inevitably result in one of the most comfortable outfits you have ever worn! If you haven't tried it, I definitely recommend it.

 7. WITH A LEATHER JACKET (FOR COLD WEATHER)
My next outfit proposal is intended for cold weather. Here you can see me sporting my favourite denim skirt with a thick leather jacket and a pair of boots (completed with faux fur leg warmers). If you want to wear a similar outfit for autumn, I would recommend opting for a lighter leather jacket (or a faux leather one), anything that is not as thick as this one (this leather jacket is so warm I only wear it in winter or in a case of a really cold autumn day). When it comes to styling a denim skirt for cold weather, the important thing is to layer wear. You will notice that I always wear tights or leggings when I style a denim skirt for cold weather.

8.WITH A BLACK BODY TOP AND SANDALS (FOR SUMMER)
I always like to pair my denim items with black or black because it creates such a basic look. I liked this simple summer styling so much I had illustrated in on one occasion. Here you can see me rocking my denim skirt with a black body top, a black leather bag and black boromira sandals. I plan to re-wear this outfit for autumn(fall). How do I plan to do it? By replacing the sandals with boots and throwing on a blazer. Really, isn't the denim skirt one of the easiest items to easy to style?

9. WITH A POLKA DOT TOP AND A STRAW HAT (FOR WARM WEATHER)
This is another summer outfit that I plan to turn into an autumn one. Polka dots are always a fun print. If you want to tone down this print, ask yourself- what is more perfect then denim? I could easily adapt this look for autumn by throwing on a black blazer and a pair of pumps. I might even wear a tartan one for a bit of mixed print action. A pair of biker boots would turn this look into a casual one. These kind of outfits are easy to transition into autumn with. I can imagine myself wearing this outfit formula (top+ blazer+ denim skirt) often this autumn.

10. WITH A STATEMENT SLEEVE RED TOP (FOR WARM AND TRANSITIONAL WEATHER)
I had actually wore this red denim combo on the first day of autumn a couple of years ago. It was a warm start to autumn so I could get away with high heeled sandals, but if this autumn proves a bit cooler, I'd simply replace them with a pair of high heeled booties. This is another outfit I liked so much I ended up illustrating it. I don't illustrate my outfits that often because it seems a bit narcissist to do so (although now that I think of it, that could be a great way to be more sustainable and keep a better visual diary of my looks). In the case of my beloved denim skirt, I guess that I simply couldn't resist illustrating it. I might illustrate it again in the future.
DENIM SKIRT FOR THE FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN
11. WITH A PUFFER COAT AND ANKLE BOOTS  (FOR COLD WEATHER)
Now, here is one solid winter outfit proposal featuring a denim skirt. As you can see, here I paired my denim skirt with a long puffer jacket, a faux fur infinity scarf and a pair of ankle boots with high heels. The result was a warm and comfy but still feminine and chic styling. I can totally see myself re-wearing this outfit this autumn and winter. I might try to wear it with different accessories to add a bit of variety, but I'll definitely wear something of the sort.
HOW TO STYLE A DENIM SKIRT IN WINTER?
 12. WITH A STRIPED T-SHIRT AND A BEACH BAG (FOR WARM WEATHER)
Bellow you can see another summer styling. What I love about this combo is how I wore a scarf as a belt. That's such an easy way to add some chic to your denim skirt. Moreover, because the denim skirt is such a neutral item, you can completely change the way it looks by opting to pair it with different bags. Here you saw me wear this denim skirt with a blue beach bag. What would happen if I paired it with an elegant blazer, put on a blazer and wore some fancy shoes? I would end up with an elegant styling. Do you see how easy it is to style a denim skirt? It is no wonder why the denim skirt is such a classic.

13. WITH A STRIPED TANK TOP (FOR WARM WEATHER)
You would have noticed that my most of my warm weather outfits featuring a denim skirt include a straw hat. Straw and denim look good together. I like to accessorize by straw hats with different ribbons or scarves. Similarly, sometimes I accessorize my denim skirt with colourful bags and/or accessories. A classical blue denim skirt is a neutral option, so a bit of yellow might be the perfect accent colour for it. In the outfit you can see bellow I paired a striped yellow tee with a yellow bag for a pop of colour.

14. WITH A LONG TARTAN BLAZER AND HIGH BOOTS (FOR COLD WEATHER)
I'm finishing this post by sharing another cold weather outfit. The autumn will be here sooner than we know it. With the end of summer, a need to keep warm will appear. Bellow you can see how I styled my blue denim skirt with a long tartan blazer (sometimes I call it a short coat because I can't make my mind what it is) and a pair of high boots. If you're looking for a warm and cozy cold weather styling, you should consider something of the sort. These high boots are so comfortable and warm. I definitely plan to wear them a lot this autumn and winter. If you have a similar pair in your closet, better make use of it. Moreover, if you want to add some colour to your cold weather statement, a pink bag might do the trick.

  3. That skirt has definitely earned its place in your wardrobe. It's a great piece, a fab fit and you've proved wonderfully how versatile a denim skirt can be.
Your post proves that by buying a good quality garment that you love (how brilliant that it's made in Croatia) you can get years of wear and enjoyment rather than buying cheap fashion pieces that lose their shape and their appeal after just a few weeks. xxx

  5. A good selection of basic items should be the backbone for any wardrobe and even more so when building a sustainable wardrobe since you want items that are both versatile with as much potential for rewearing as possible. Your denim skirt is certainly one such item as you've demonstrated so wonderfully here. I have a denim midi skirt that is about 5 years old now that I rewear every summer and plan to for many years to come.

  6. It's a beautiful denim skirt and you wear it so well! It's awesome you're aiming for the 30 wears challenge with your shoes too! I enjoy putting posts like this together, lots of outfit ideas and inspiration in one place!

I want to get a denim skirt like this when the boys are older! I'm finding the toddler years tricky in lengths other than maxi skirts, haha! So once they grow up a bit and I'm bending over less I'll get a skirt like this!

Hope that your week is going well :)

  11. I'm really impressed that you found so many different ways to style your denim skirt, which I like very much, because it has a real "A"-shape. So many denim skirts are just too wide in the waist and look therefor too tight around the hips. Your skirt is perfekt. I also think that sustainable fashion is the way for consumers to set a sign and tell the big fashion labels that they're not willing to participate in "fast fashion" anymore.

  20. I think that a denim skirt is one of the most versatile items of clothing one can possess. It never ever goes out of fashion, and it can be a) combined with almost anything b) dressed up or down and c) be worn in all 4 seasons! I love all your looks, but the one with your statement sleeve blouse and your second outfit with the turtleneck are my favourites. I am, however, intrigued by your childhood t-shirt, as it mentions Lourdes (France) and depicts Our Lady of Lourdes with Bernadette, the girl she appeared for, kneeling in front of her. We have a small collection of kitschy Lourdes memorabilia, which is why it struck me. But whatever the case, it's a gorgeous t-shirt, and I'm glad you still have it, and are still able to wear it, after all those years! Hope your week is going well! xxx

    1. I was going to write that my dad visited both Fatima and Lourdes and that he brought me this tee from Lourdes but I ended up writing only about Fatima because I was thinking about it and how my husband would like to visit it. My mistake! btw I just remember that my brother has the same t-shirt. We had some other stuff and souvenirs from there, not sure has my family kept it.

  23. I also try to invest in sustainable pieces, because to be honest, I usually repeat clothes a lot. I didn't know denim skirt could be so versatile, I love your second and third outfit the most (I love layering up). It love how each look doesn't look like you repeated a piece at all. This is such a great idea!
