HAPPY EASTER FROM JELSA, A LITTLE VILLAGE ON ISLAND HVAR

Happy Easter everyone! I wish you many blessings and good things in these hard times. As I mentioned many times on this little blog of mine, about six months ago I temporary moved to Jelsa on island Hvar for work reasons. That is where this coronavirus situation caught me and that is where I will have to stay for  the time being. It is a beautiful place, though. I might live in a tiny rented apartment but at least I can enjoy a magnificent view of Jelsa  from my window every day.
I'll keep this post short because I'm assuming that most of you will want to spend as much time (even if only virtually) with family and friends this Easter weekend. Sadly, many won't be able to see their family and friends but that is just how it is. It isn't much different from me either. I cannot leave the island. My family is in Split, my husband's family is in Mostar. It is just the two of us in our household, but at least we are together. I imagine that quarantine life would be more difficult if I didn't have my significant other. This situation is perhaps hardest on the single person households.
MY EASTER OUTFITS
I took photographs in two dresses. To tell you the truth, I only wore them for a short while and soon slipped into this grey dress- that is probably the most comfortable dress I own right now. Still, it was fun to play dress up for a bit. We need to do what we can to keep up our spirits. I feel that soon we will need all the strength we can master. I don't mean to go all Cassandra on you, but I have a feeling that hard times are ahead. All the more reason to count our blessings and practice gratitude. If you stop and think about it, there are always things to be grateful for.
THE STORY OF MY OUTFITS- HOW I WORE THEM BEFORE?
The cherry print dress  is a recent gift. I wore it a couple of times. I have a soft spot for cherry print dresses. You can see how I styled it before here (with orange heels and black boots).
The black shirt is a second hand find from a few years ago. I actually wear this shirt a lot, but somehow I never seem to get it photographed. You can see how I styled it here
The two piece dress is a collab piece from last year. I wear it quite often. You can see how I styled it before here , here , here and here
The square heels were handed down to me so they're second hand. They are currently the only pair of heels that I have in my closet (I never had the time or the chance to move my wardrobe, I only brought some clothes in two instances).  See how I styled them here and most recently here.
HOW I DECORATED FOR EASTER THIS YEAR?
I blogged about sustainable Easter a last year. Well, this year I didn't dye the eggs in the ecological and completely natural way because onions peels and other supplies were hard to come by. My husband bought some egg dye so we just used that. He also bought some Easter stickers, even if it is just the two of us. I have to tell you, I much prefer the natural way of dyeing the eggs (such as dyeing them with onion peels, wine, blueberry juice and other methods I've tried over the years) but sometimes we have to make do with what we have. Generally speaking, I would say that looking up and learning about traditions is a great way to be more green. Old Easter traditions are typically more 'green' than modern ones. You can always ask your elders, relatives and friends about their Easter traditions, they can give you useful tips, advice and inspiration.  A great thing about collecting green tips is that most of them can be applied to any festivity. These days are a bit odd, but you can still think about things that matter to you. If decorating makes you happy, there is no reason to abandon it. My Easter decorations today were really simple. Besides stickers for the eggs and one basket, we didn't buy any Easter decorations. I plan to reuse the basket (and stickers too provided that the world doesn't come to an end before next Easter). That's about that. I picked some rosemary to decorate the basket and filled it with eggs. I baked a cake. I didn't have a festive tablecloth at hand, so I used one of my scarves to decorate the table.

A CAT THAT INSISTS ON BEING PET
I have to admit that it was a bit fun being photo bombed by this kitty. I know that cats are virus carriers but I couldn't really make this cat leave. She comes regularly to my door. I'm not sure is she a stray or not, the latest info is that she belongs to the neighbours but prefers our house for some reason. I've been avoiding petting her ( I still feed her regularly, though) but as you can see on the photographs she is very persistent. I know that we should avoid socializing right now- and that applies to animals (unless they are animals that live with you, in that case it's fine) but sometimes it is harder than it seems. Take this cat for example. How should I explain the importance of social distancing to her? Well, I couldn't really chase her away. Plus, she will have kittens soon so I was afraid any loud noise or something of the sort might cause her fatal stress.
Thank you for stopping by. Your feedback is always appreciated. Have a nice day!

  1. Oh, what a lovely kitty that is! I'm sure you're fine petting her. I love your pretty cherry dress, Ivana! Happy Easter to you!

I'm glad you and your husband are together for this. Some of my friends have been isolated completely and it's so hard. Wishing you a lovely and sunny weekend!

  2. Aw your cat photobomer is so cute! You can't get the coronavirus from cats or any pets, so be sure to give her lots of pats and cuddles!

it's nice you still got dressed up for Easter, even if it was different from your usual. I decided to dress up as well, we all wore our pretty clothes (I wore a dress) and we celebrated at home.

Hope that you had a lovely weekend :)

  5. Happy Easter! I hope you had a lovely day, even if it was just the two of you. I love how you still managed to put on a little festivity. One thing was that we didn't decorate eggs this year, we didn't really do much ourselves. It didn't feel like Easter but we still had a special lunch. It is not ideal but life right now is anything but ordinary. We just have to make the most of what we can. Stay safe.

  10. I was going to point out that you cannot catch Coronavirus from animals, but I see that both Mica and Vix beat me to it. There's so much fake information out there, which is why I virtually stopped my news intake apart from the bare necessities. Like you, I have a fear that dark times are ahead, but I keep on hoping and I certainly cannot dwell on it too much in order not to get depression. It's of course a pity you cannot see your or your husband's families, but certainly being together in such a beautiful place makes up for things. I do love your Easter outfits, celebrations and photo-bombing kitty! xxx

  16. What a lovely kitty! I've had several dogs come over to me on walks and I've had to back away and avoid stroking them!
Your Easter outfit is really pretty. Ah, I did wonder why you'd moved back to Croatia- work reasons. I did wonder if it was that as I knew you were finding it hard to find teaching in Mostar.
Your eggs are really pretty! I made my wreath for Easter decorations and have picked some wild flowers to put in a jug but that's it!

  17. Hey dear Ivana! I also enjoyed this post and I didn't know all the background about your situation, but at least the corona virus madness caught you with a place, I think you can always add details, books and a cup of coffee or tea to make your lockdown experience a little better.

Luckily you have the rays of sun and light is always welcomed. I'm also happy to see that you had a nice Easter, and photobombed by a cat haha!

All the outfits proposals are cool! But I specially loved how you paired the floral dress with those shoes :)
