ILLUSTRATING DOLCE & GABBANA SPRING SUMMER 2021 COLLECTION- PART 2

Hello, dear readers! How's life treating you? Today I'm back with more fashion illustrations inspired by Dolce and Gabbana runaway looks from Spring Summer 2021 collection. This is the second and possibly the final post about this 2021 fashion collection. I'm not sure will I be illustrating any more outfits from this D&G collection, perhaps five illustrations is enough. What do you think? When it comes to this collection, what I appreciated the most were the patchwork items, especially in suits and blazers, because that kind of tailoring requires some technical skills. I'm a big fan of patchwork so it was fun seeing all the patchwork suits and dresses. As you can see, I even illustrated one patchwork suit from this collection. This collection actually reminded me of one D&G collection from the nineties, worn by the iconic 90ties supermodels. Speaking of the nineties, I  wish runaway shows nowadays were not so serious. Do you remember how in the nineties the models interacted with the audience more and sometimes even smiled? Fun times. Well, maybe the models didn't smile wearing this collection, but it is still a fun collection, full of bright colours, eye-catching patterns, interesting textures and unexpected cuts. Lots of fashion houses are doing really bright and colourful collections for year 2021, I wonder isn't because we all need cheering after the year 2020?

The last time I blogged about one of D&G collections,  I mentioned that what I like about D&G duo is that they have a signature style. They also have a history of rather problematic ads and marketing campaigns but that's another story.  This Spring Summer 2021 collection felt a bit different in the sense there were many different styles incorporated into it. This was obvious from everything from accessories to cuts and materials. Even footwear options were greatly varied. I don't remember when I saw so many different shoe options in one of their collection. They had everything from kitten heels, stilettoes, block heeled boots, sneakers to flats. Not the fan of the ballet flats, I often heard it said that flats are not the best orthopedic option. I didn't mind the sneakers, though. I think they were aiming at a younger audience with many of the designs and obviously with the sneakers. What I didn't like about many of the heels featured in this  2021 collection (both kitten heels and stilettoes) is that they didn't look very stable. I doubt it is the fault of the models, it is their job to walk and if they can't walk well in some of those heels, then maybe they are just not well made. Naturally, it is hard to tell just by looking the video, but  on the overall the shoe options didn't blew me away. The block heeled boots did look quite comfy, though. What I did like was how versatile this collection is. The amount of colours and patterns was mind-blowing. The cuts were quite varied, with designs ranging from skin tight to oversized. There were quite a few oversized blazers and jackets in this one. Certainly there was a great versatility in terms of lengths, textures, colours and patterns.  Maybe even a bit too versatile- but then again, why not? Maybe a collection cannot be too versatile, maybe it is good that there are so many different runaway looks catering to all styles. Even if at times, this D&G 2021 collection felt a bit all over the place, generally speaking, it was an exciting and interesting collection to behold. I quite enjoyed the spectacle. How does D&G Spring and Summer 2021 differ from their other collections? It differs in some ways, but still feels familiar most of the time. Were they true to their style? To an extent- yes, they were. Were there any new trends they embraced? I should say so. Were there any surprises? Yes, there were a few. Let's get into that, shall we?

I once said that when it comes to D&G collections (at least for ladies, I don't pay that much attention to men's fashion, sorry about that guys) there are a few things you can count on. In terms of cuts, in D&G collection there is often  a classical tailored look present. There were some tailored suits in this one, but there were also a lot of oversized items- and a lot mini skirts, as in really microscopic mini skirts. That is something I didn't expect because even if they do have mini skirts in their collection, in terms of length mini length tends to be more present. Naturally, this may vary a bit depending on the season but midi dresses and skirts are almost always present in their collections. In this one, I didn't noticed that many midi options, unless you count those midi dresses with high slits as minis- and I wouldn't do that. However, there were a few rather gorgeous culottes in this collection so that is good for lovers of pants and midi length. There were also some rather gorgeous maxi dresses that would appeal to lovers of the more  classical feminine D&G style. There were also a few surprises like some runaway looks featuring cycling shorts and oversized tops that don not seem really synonymous with their brand, but hey they are probably appealing to a broader audience. When it comes to patterns, you can always count on floral and animal print to make the cut in Dolce and Gabbana collection and this one was no expecting. However, there wasn't that much floral in this collection- and when floral was used it was mostly in patchwork fabrics. The patterns used in this collection were quite bold and pattern mixing was the norm, not the exception. The first thing that I noticed me about Spring and Summer 2021 collection is the abundance of colour and patters. I would say that is a lovely Spring and Summer collection for sure, something from what we can draw some positive fashion inspiration for the next season.

MY FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS OF THE DAY- 3 LOOKS FROM 2021 COLLECTION- Now, let's have a look at the runaway looks I illustrated, shall we?

THE PATCHWORK SUIT
This was the first runaway look in the collection and it is honestly my favourite one. Tailored to perfection, this look is absolutely fabulous. I tend to prefer dresses to suits (as much as I love suits) but this three piece suit is a work of art. I also love how beneath the mixed pattern blazer, vest and pants, there is a pattern blouse. This outfit is a heaven for pattern lovers like myself.

THE GREEN MIXED PATTERN MINI DRESS
This green mixed pattern mini dress is so fabulous. The mixture of two kinds of animal print with a red floral bottom is fantastic.  The oversized earrings are also gorgeous. I love this runaway look from head to toe. Well, maybe not how unstable those stilettoes actually looked on the runaway but you get what I mean. It is a gorgeous dress that reminds me of the sixties and  looks very comfortable. I imagine it would look fabulous worn with wide leg trousers or fun tights.

THE YELLOW MIDI DRESS
I love yellow and I love midi dresses, so what is not to love about this one. This is one of my favourite looks in the collection for sure. For me yellow is the colour of sunshine and happiness.

As always, thank you for commenting and reading. Have a lovely day and take care!

  2. Terrific designs. They have, to my eyes, a certain vibrant early 1990s feel, while also being wonderfully contemporary - not to mention cheerful.

    1. Yes, this collection is very similar to D&G 1993 collection which in turn drew on seventies as it was one of the inspirations in the nineties. Really interesting stuff.

  8. Such cool illustrations! Love what you have done. On the other hand I haven't been impressed with high end fashion in a long time. I will confess I like the construction of German clothes as well as Japanese fashion for the shapely woman. Especially, when it comes to fashion. I do love upcycling. Taking fabric and giving it new fashion which might me top half bodice sweatshirt or sweater and the bottom a man's shirt. I guess the thing is, I would have no where to wear these kind of clothes. Although, I do love the old man's blazer I turned into a vest. It's been great for fall.

  18. Those are wonderful, Ivana! I like the patchwork suiting as well - even one piece would be amazing to own! - and the red dress calls to me. I adore yellow, though, so...hard to choose! I love D&G's classic 90s looks - must wear my sweater/slip dress again soon!

  19. I particularly love how you managed to capture the patchwork suit, although the yellow dress made my heart beat faster too. I wish I had only an ounce of your talent. xxx

  20. I can see the 90's influence in this collection as well in the bold use of color and slightly exaggerated silhouette. You did a superb job with translating the fashions themselves as well as the energy of the presentation in your illustrations.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
