A MAXI GYPSY SKIRT PAIRED WITH PUSSY BOW BLOUSE

Hello dear readers! The weather in the month of April hasn't been exactly spring like, so I often resorted to creative layering (the outfit I will share with you today is a great example of that). I won't complain too much of the weather. We had a warm winter so I'm not surprised that spring has been cold. It's usually like that, if the winter is mild, the spring isn't warm. That's alright, we'll enjoy the warm weather once it finally arrives in May. My husband jokes that I jinxed the weather by commenting (earlier this month) that I will miss some of my winter coats. Well, I definitely won't miss them once it gets warmer, because I wore them a lot this April! Right now, I can't wait to put my winter items away. How about you? Has spring arrived where you are at yet?

You know, I've been blogging for plus eight years now. I started my blogging journey by writing about fashion and sharing my outfits. These days I blog about a variety of topics but I still enjoy talking about clothes and outfits.  I always said (and I stand by word) is that the best part about clothes is creating stories with them. I rarely get bored of my clothes and I love coming up with different ways to style them. I think I always have. I genuinely enjoy shopping my closet, it's more than a passing trend for me. The older I get, the more I enjoy it. Moreover, I enjoy talking about clothes. I love learning new things about the fascinating relationship we have with clothes. Perhaps that is why I continue with my blogging journey- because I still have so many clothes related stories to share.

April is my birthday month. I don't share my exact date of birth on the Internet (because of safety reasons), so feel free to wish me happy birthday any time in April. I already celebrated my birthday (not with a party or anything like that but in a nice enough way). As happens every year, my birthday got me thinking. Sometimes it seems to me like the time has just flown by and other times like it is standing still.  Nevertheless, if I stop and think about it, I realize I have gathered so many memories over the years (and some cool clothing items as well).

THE STORY OF THIS OUTFIT
THE CAMEL COAT
The day when these photographs were taken was a sunny  one but it was a bit cold. I took this camel coat off for the photographs ( but as you will see by the end of this post) I put it back on soon enough. I got this short camel coat from my husband at the end of 2019. I haven't done the math yet, but I might be close to 30 wears (despite the fact that I have had it for a year and a half). Honestly, initially I didn't like this coat, but I guess it grew on me. I was thinking of doing a special post about it, but since we're deep into (even if weather doesn't show it) spring season, I might postpone it for next year.
THE VINTAGE BEIGE SWEATER WITH PUFFED SLEEVES
Under this lovely coat I wore a vintage sweater from my mother. I don't think I actually wore this sweater on the blog before. I don't remember when exactly I stole it from my mother, but I must have forgotten about it because I haven't worn it in ages. I can't wait to wear it again on its own (once it gets warm enough for that). They say knits will be trendy this spring, don't they? Not that it would matter if they didn't. I think this sweater is from the eighties. I think I remember my mother wearing it. What I like most about this sweater is how it has a defined waist. I can't wait to wear it again!!!
THE SILK BLOUSE
I bought this blouse about ten years ago. I actually bought it for my grandmother but it was too small for her so I bought another silk blouse for her (that one was pink). The reason why I was looking for a nice blouse for my grandmother was because she needed it for my brother's wedding. Unfortunately, my grandmother fell and injured herself before the wedding. The reason why my grandmother fell is because she was misdiagnosed with Parkison's disease and the pills made her ill. Her tremor was actually caused by neck injury. For years, we have been taking her to all kinds of doctors, neurosurgeons and what not. The first person who diagnosed her correctly was a physical therapist from Kaštela (and thank God for him, he is so wonderful). Still,  it was a diagnosis that came in more than twenty years late. When I look at this blouse I'm reminded of all of that. My grandmother did eventually wore the pink blouse for my first cousin's wedding but not for my own (when she was again too sick to attend). Clothes do have stories to tell. So many stories.  I have worn this blouse for fancy dinners, graduation ceremonies, work and for every day outfits (because life is too short not to wear your fancy blouses when you can). So, you see for me clothes are not just clothes. A blouse is not just a blouse, it's a precious collection of memories.  I don't know how many times I have worn this blouse- but it has been quite a few (I'm sure will blouse will appear in 30 plus wears soon enough) , but before I do that, let's so a little  fashion throwback like Sheila.
A FEW MORE WAYS TO STYLE THIS SILK PUSSY BOW BLOUSE (see also here, here , here , here , here and here)

THE GYPSY SKIRT
Moving onto the next item, this lovely flowing gypsy skirt with parsley print and lilac sequins. I bought it sixteen years ago in a small Sicilian shop. The maxi skirt hasn't aged a day. It looks exactly the same as the day I bought it sixteen years ago. The colours of this skirt have stayed true. I love when that happens. I have so many fun memories wearing this skirt! One thing I love about it is that the waist is elastic so I can wear it higher up to turn it into a midi skirt (or lower to make it a maxi). I don't wear it as often as some of the other items in my closet, but it will always have a fond spot in my heart. Scroll bellow for five more ways to style this fabulous maxi skirt.  I love wearing it with bright colours such as yellow and red to create a contrast with the olive green of the skirt.

THE HIGH BROWN BOOTS WITH A FLAT HEEL
I practically lived in these boots this year. Bellow I prepared a little collage with  SEVEN MORE WAYS TO STYLE THESE FLAT HIGH BROWN BOOTS- but I really wear them all the time.

A FEW MORE PHOTOS OF MY OUTFIT AND WE'RE DONE FOR TODAY!
Do you see a bag in this outfit? Because I don't and I don't remember what bag I wore with this outfit. I guess I'm more a shoe than a bag lady. I do have some nice bags. It's mostly my husband who reminds me when it is time to buy a new bag.  I'm not knowledgeable about designer bags and I don't really keep up with the 'bag' trends. I try to match my classy bags with my classy outfits but I don't really have a good bag formula to share.

THE LOCATION (just in case anyone is interested) is the campus of University Mostar in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It's a pretty area, isn't it? This is where I went to University. I always wanted to take a photograph on one of these mini grass hills and I'm glad I finally did! It's never too late to put a fun idea to work. Life is short. Keep those you love close and don't forget to tell them you love them. Every day can be the last one for all of us.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by this digital little place to call my own.

  3. Happy Birthday to you!
I love this outfit on you, chic, classy and timeless. You're right clothes do hold memories. There's been clothes I've parted with because I wore them on really sad days and I've had to sell them on hoping that the new owners do happy things in them as I can't bear the memories - silly, I know! Have a fab weekend and hope your Spring warms up soon - we've been threatened with snow! xxx

  5. Hey Ivana, first of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I wish you the best and I am happy to have you as a blogger friend, it is so amazing that after all these years we're still connected to blog and social media. Good to know that you had a celebration :) Sending you my best regards!

And wow you've been blogging for a long time and I love the twist of your blog, including more art in the recent years. I always find something interesting when I come here and I leave this place very inspired!

That outfit is so amazing and the cool part is that some of the garments in this look have been with you for many years! The pussy bowl is definitely a trendy piece right now but I'd say is one of those garments that can be in your closets forever!

PS: Spring hasn't arrived here 100%, we're still facing cloudy days!

  7. Happy birthday Ivana! April is a lovely month to have one's birthday in.
We've had a handful of Spring day this April, but on the whole it was just a bit too cold for the time of year. I haven't said goodbye to my Winter coats either ...
What an elegant and timeless outfit you've created here, Ivana. Whether you follow trends or not, a gypsy skirt, pussy bow blouse and knits will always be fashionable.
I am, by the way, both a bag and a shoes girl, although in the past year I haven't been able to take either on many outings! Have a lovely weekend, Ivana xxx

  8. Happy Birthday, Ivana!! You don't look a day over 35 (I hope I'm not insulting you - I have no idea how old you are!). :)

Thank you so much for the shout-out - I loved your look back at your previous outfits. I so agree about clothes carrying memories. I love when I wear something that holds a memory of its previous wearer, although for me this tends to be more about jewelry, as I have few clothes that belonged to people I knew/loved.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
