HOW TO STYLE KNITS FOR SPRING? A VISIT TO LAKE MOSTAR

Can we wear knits in spring time? I've been wearing them in spring time for a long as I can remember, but somehow I still find myself asking this question from time to time. Are sweaters really meant for spring? I suppose that sweaters and knits aren't the first thing that comes to our mind when we think of spring outfits. However, spring isn't always about perfect sunny weather. Sometimes we need layers and there is where knits come into picture. As tempting as it might be to pack all your cardigans and sweaters away once spring makes its appearance, sometimes it is really better to hold on to them. In reality, cardigans and sweaters can be your best friends in spring time. They are simply perfect for layering and we all know that layering is a must when weather is unpredictable.

How to style knits for spring? They are actually not that hard to style, especially those that come in lighter or pastel shades. In my experience, most knits look great worn with jeans, light dresses or skirts. Pick a pair of white jeans and pair it with a nice knit to get a warm but summer appropriate outfit. Slip skirts also make a wonderful pairing with knits and they always look so romantic and feminine. In addition, you can try wearing your sweaters over dresses. If you get to warm, you can always take them off and tie them around your waist. Moreover, spring accessories can make your outfits more spring appropriate. I said that many times this spring (probably because the weather has been all over the place this spring) but it is really true- you can have the best of both worlds: make your outfit feel like a spring one and still be warm enough. It's all about finding clothes that work for you and make you feel good. We ought not let rules limit us too much when it comes to seasonal dressing. After all, if sometimes works why not wear it?

HYDRO POWER PLANT ON NERETVA RIVER AND ARTIFICIAL LAKE MOSTAR

There are actually several hydro power plants on Nerteva river, this one I'm mentioning is the one closest to Mostar. This hydro power plant on Neretva river resulted in the making of an artificial lake. I often referred to it on this blog as lake Mostar, but I'm not entirely sure that's its official name. It is only about 15 minutes of drive from Mostar city and it is definitely worth a visit. It might be artificial in origin, but it looks completely natural. Moreover, this lake is vibrant with natural wild life. There are many birds that have found home on it. This whole area is extremely beautiful. The view of mountains is especially enchanting from this lake. It truly feels like stepping into a natural oasis and it is super close to Mostar city. I often blogged about Potoci and Bijelo polje on my blog. Feel free to have a look at some of my older post to see more of this truly amazing area.

MY HIKING OUTFIT BREAKDOWN- SHOPPING ONE'S CLOSET ONCE AGAIN
Now, a few words about my outfit. Lately I've been talking a lot about shopping our closets and it's something I really believe in. It's obvious how shopping our closet and  thus refraining from constant buying of new items can help fight the damage fast fashion is doing to the environment. As a society, we need to get rid of this habit of buying for the sake of buying and going through clothes quickly. We need to learn how to take better care of our clothes so they would last longer. However, equally important is knowing our closets and knowing how to make the most out of our clothes. Maximizing the ways in which we wear our clothing items can lead to minimizing our purchases. Everything in this outfit is old, so this hiking outfit is a good example of shopping one's closet.

THE WHITE SHIRT
I have had this white shirt for ages. It was once part of my flight attendant uniform. It is made of cotton which makes it perfect for layering. Here I styled it under a pastel purple sweater and I really like how these two items look together. I also like to wear this shirt under dresses. It looks great worn with skirts and blazers as well. Generally speaking, a cotton white shirt will always be a classic. I have a few shirts like this one (from my uniform) and some of them I have customized by painting on them. I'm happy I left this one plain because as I said white shirt will always come in handy. You can see how I styled it under a blue sweater here.

THE PASTEL PURPLE SWEATER
I already wore this pastel purple sweater a couple of times this year (here I styled it white jeans and here with blue ones). I wore it pretty often last year as well. I distinctly remember pairing it with a floral dress (you can see that lilac spring styling here).

THE DUST PINK SKIRT
I've had this dust pink skirt for ages and it's one of most worn skirts in my closet. I wear it so often I once blogged about it and came up with not one but eleven ways to style a dusty pink skirt for spring! Maybe I should write a new post and this time make it twenty one way to wear a skirt? That would be a fun challenge.

THE BLACK LEGGINGS
Life without leggings would definitely be more complicated. They are the perfect component of any hiking or outdoor outfit. I've had this pair for a while and I do get a lot of wear for them.

THE BIKER BOOTS
You've seen me wear this pair of biker boots so often I don't really feel the need of linking up my old outfit posts with them. I wear them all the time and in all seasons. They are amazing comfortable and very versatile. Plus, they look good with everything.

THE BEACH BAG WITH SHELLS DETAILS
These kind of bags might be trending now, but I've actually had this blue bag with wooden handles for ages. I got it as a gift from friends. I wore it pretty often last summer. The first time I showed it on this blog was back in 2013 in a post titled simply BEACH BAG (OUTFIT POST). I wore it a couple of times this spring because I feel it helps add a bit of vacation vibes to my outfits. If the weather doesn't play along, you can always dress seasonably with accessories.

THE BENEFITS OF SPENDING TIME OUTDOORS & MAKING THE MOST OUT OF THE AREA YOU LIVE IN

I know I speak about the benefits of spending time outdoors often but that is because I feel that's such an important topic. There are many health benefits to spending time outdoors so it's something worth mentioning. Moreover, spending time outdoors can help you make the most of our area you live. You don't have to keep visiting new places every weekend. Sometimes the area you happen to live in has many hidden gems. Why not explore them?

5 BENEFITS OF GOING FOR A WALK IN NATURE

There are many benefits of going for a walk in the nature, especially in Autumn. The foliage can be so beautiful. Some of the benefits of going for a walk in nature can include:

1. Digital detox:Resting our eyes from the screens is pretty important and what better way to do it than by taking in some beautiful landscape in?
2. Physical activity:A slow walk is appropriate even for the elderly and chronically ill. Physical activity is an important aspect of overall health preservation and maintenance.
3. No noise, less stress:Resting our ears might be as important as resting our eyes. Don't underestimate the effect of silence. In addition, nature sounds like the sound of the creek or the bird song can have a relaxing effect on many.
4. Fresh airFresh air is obviously beneficial for our lungs and overall health. Spending time outdoors can lower the changes of depression.
5. InspirationNature can be a great way to find inspiration. This doesn't only apply to artists or people working in creative field. A change of scenery is a good way to change our routine, which in turn can also mean a lower chance of developing depression. I keep mentioning depression prevention because I think it's a relevant topic these days.

Thank you for reading and comment. Have a lovely day!

  3. Knits really can be great for spring! Sadly it is now too hot here to wear one, but I always love layering a sweater or cardigan over a spring outfit when it's chilly. The purple sweater you are wearing looks great with the pink skirt! And that lake looks like a beautiful location to spend some time at x

  10. Dear Ivana, you are right, we shouldn't pack away our knits only because it is spring :) In Bavaria this definitely doesn't make sense as we have even in summer cold days in our area. The look you wore for your hike at this artifical lake (that looks indeed totally natural) is very beautiful. You have such a huge skill for combining beautiful looks! And I agree - we really should shop in our closets, you are definitely a pro in this.

The pastell purple sweater fits you soooooooooo well, and your outfit-mix is wonderful! The colors look so radiant in all the natural green! Your photos inspire me again and again and the nature you show us fills me with enthusiasm!

  12. Oh I also think that knits are ideal for the Spring. Your pastel purple sweater is a great choice since pastels are so synonymous with the season and the way you styled this outfit works so well for your outing since it casually chic and comfortable. That is so cool that the hydro power plant created an artificial lake. It looks like a natural lake and not man made at all and it's nice that everyone in the area and those surrounding can enjoy it.

  14. Shades of lilac are so very pleasing for the eye, and perfect for those not-so-perfect Spring days, when there's a bit of a chill in the air. I can see why that skirt is a favourite! I fully agree with you on the benefits of being outdoors. As I've got quite a stressful job, I love the peace and quiet of it.. And indeed, we do not have to discover new places every time. We have our favourites, which we visit again and again. Just noting the changes over the seasons is a joy in itself. Lake Mostar is beautiful, what a stunning setting! xxx
