Illustrations (summer in the city 2) / Ilustracije (ljeto u gradu 2)

It looks like my first day on the beach will be my last day on the beach.... at least for a while.  C'est la vie. Today I'm presenting you with two illustrations. There will a few more of them before the moths ends so just that you know what to expect. One more thing... My laptop is not working properly so probably I won't be online as much as usually am.

Hello dear readers!  Post update (2025) I have uploaded this post with some of my new illustrations.  Why? To give you a chance to compare my old works with my newer ones.  To show you how one can make progress with art. Art is not so much talent, as skill.  This is how Cambridge dictionary defines talent. Do you believe that there is such a thing as a natural skill or ability to good at something?  Did anyone every really learned something by not being taught? A skill can be gain without learning. There is no such a thing as being born without a skill.  Literally any art form requires skill. Some artists are self-taught, others aren't, but nobody is born with the ability to paint.  Nobody was raised in isolation. We all learn one from one another. Nobody taught himself art without studying the art of other people. Nobody is raised in complete isolation. Nobody is born with abilities. talent noun uk     / ˈtæl. ə nt /   us     ...

Spirit of adventure (illustration) / Avanturistički duh (ilustracija)

Image
akrilne boje i kemijska olovka na papiru acrylic  paints and pen on paper Another illustration, another message...Spirit of adventure is something we all can use, don't you think? Just like a piece of statement jewelry that will make us feel fabulous. My choice is often the kind of statement necklaces that you can see on these illustration (and many of my recent ones) but I also love hair accessories.  Quite often I have managed to combine those two in some of my works. What kind of jewelry do you like? Another illustration, another redhead I might add...it seems that redheads have invaded my imagination. Anyhow, this redhead is wearing a dark scarf, blue tee and vintage aviator kind of glasses...maybe she is driving a motorcycle, maybe something else....who knows? but she had that spirit of adventure feel about her. Još jedna ilustracija, još jedna poruka... avanturistički duh je nešto što nam svima dobro dođe, zar ne?Baš kao i upečatljiv komad nakita koji će u...

Summer in the city (illustration)/ Ljeto u gradu (ilustracija)

Image
pen, water colours, coffee on paper The summer officially started at about 7 am this morning. The illustrations shows what I see as a quintessential  summer outfit. Summer is meant for relaxation and enjoyment. No tight clothes or uncomfortable shoes...plenty of colour and accessories to keep it interesting and there it is...an outfit I would gladly wear in the summer (consisting of pink wedges, orange baggy shorts, red top, yellow bracelets, dark necklaces and pink oversize bag). I didn't use to spend my summer in the city. For most of my childhood and adult life, I have spend them on the island Hvar. It is only in recent years that I have been spending them in the city (or two cities to be precise, Mostar and Split). I don't think I will mind being in the city. I just hope I'll get a chance to relax this summer. I do feel that I really need it. Ljeto je službeno počelo jutros malo prije sedam. Ilustracija prikazuje što vidim kao esencijalnu ljet...

Mostar (photography/ fotografija)

Image
All of these photographs were taken during one long solitary walk some time this spring. The day was coming to its end, the sun was slowly setting and I was quite satisfied with the way the photographs turned out. I'm considering framing a one of them (the last one). I like the last one the most because the building are already in the dusk while the airport  is visible in the distance and bathed in the day's  last rays of light.

Good morning sorrow/ Dobro jutro tugo

Image
kemijska, kava, vodene boje na papiru pencil, water colours, coffee on paper 'Good morning sorrow, where have you been for so long?' about a decade ago, an colleague of mine greeted me with those words. To understand the context you'll have to know that those are the opening lyrics of a well know Croatian ballad . In his case, it was a probably just a joke, as his next words to me were: 'Come on, when was the last time someone greeted you with a song?'  Nowadays, those words 'Good morning sorrow' always remind me of a title of a well know French novel Bonjour Tristesse . If you're asking where I am going with all this, bare with me a moment (or don't... no one is forcing you to read this) as I usually do get to my point eventually. Sagan wrote it when she was only 18 and the novel was an instant success. When I read it, I though it was quite good (especially being written by someone that young) but I wondered whether some of the hyp...
