SEVEN WAYS TO WEAR A WHITE DOTTED PENCIL SKIRT : SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES

A surprising number of people are under the false impression that you have to spend a lot of money in order to dress in a sustainable way. The good news is that sustainable fashion does't have to be expensive or difficult.  You can help the environment just by shopping your closet more. As easy as that! Shopping your closet and taking good care of your clothing are wonderful and easy ways to be more sustainable. Do you know what is the best thing about these two ecologically friendly fashion strategies? They don't cost you anything. By maximizing the usage of items in your closet and learning how to properly care for your clothing items, you can both help the environment and your personal finances. I already addressed this topic in my last post, when I showed you fourteen ways to wear one basic item. Relying on our wardrobe essentials is such an effortless way to be more green in our fashion choices.

Take this white pencil skirt for example. It belonged to my mother when she was younger. Since I have adopted this vintage skirt, I've worn it many times. I have taken proper care of this skirt so it still looks brand new. It didn't cost me a penny and if I hadn't adopted it, where would this clothing item be? In the trash, doing damage to our environment. Obviously, that's not the only reason why I claimed it as  my own. My original reason was selfish enough: this pencil is a gorgeous and versatile item. The fact that it is white makes it perfect for warm and transitional weather. The tiny dotted print is so cute. The skirt is so quality made. I have never owned a 'new' skirt that made me as happy as the vintage skirts I own. There is something to be said about that vintage fit.

1. WITH A WHITE BLOUSE AND  PAIR OF LEOPARD HEELS
I wore this outfit fairly recently. It could easily be one of my favourite looks this summer. I love pairing this skirt with white items and this embroidered blouse is such a thing of beauty. I will have to check with my mother, but I think somebody actually sewn this blouse for her back in the day. If I remember well, it was a part of my closet since I was a teen. There is no label on this shirt, the embroidery is definitely hand made, so it very well might be a handmade vintage item. Anyhow, I finished this outfit with a pair of black sunglasses (from DM I should think), a black bag (bought in a local store chain Borsa) and a pair of leopard heels I picked up back in the spring. Nothing is new in this outfit (I'm on a shopping ban remember?), but it still feels new because it is the first time I'm wearing these items together. That proves you don't always have to buy new things, you can always create 'new' outfits by combining those items you already own in a new way.
2. WITH A RUFFLED FLORAL SHIRT AND A PAIR OF BROWN SANDALS
Wearing this skirt always makes me feel confident, especially when I pair it with heels. This time I paired it with brown sandals (one of the comfiest pairs I own), an old floral shirt (I've had it for years) and a yellow bag from a local store Borsa. I think that the feminine vibe of this ruffled shirt works really well with this dotted pencil skirt. This yellow bag is always a good pop of colour and it makes this outfit more fresh. This was another recent styling and I might  re-wear this combo some day.
3.WITH A RED TOP AND A PAIR OF SNAKE PRINT HEELS
Now, this is a summer outfit I wore years ago. I guess my style doesn't change that much or I just don't get tired of the clothing items I really like? Here you can see me wearing this skirt with a red dress and a pair of snake print heels. I wore the dress under the skirt, so it looks like a top. I'm also sporting the same yellow bag as in the outfit above plus a necklace I made myself.
4. WITH A BLUE TOP AND PAIR OF POM POM HEELS
You already had the chance of seeing this outfit last Friday when I posted it along my new fashion illustrations. This is pretty much what I wore today as well. The only difference being in that I had opted for white heeled mules instead of these pom pom heels. Did I mention that I like to pair this skirt with heels?  It is a good elongating trick to use with skirts that are bellow the knee or with midi skirts. Pencil skirts are a feminine item and dressy item by themselves, but adding heels in the mixture makes pencil skirts look even more flattering, feminine and chic.
5. WITH A PRINTED TUNIC AND BROWN SANDALS
Another summer outfit I have already shared with you (remember that post about style lessons learned from Malena/Monica Bellucci?).  Here I styled this white dotted skirt with a printed white tunics (I tucked it in to make it look like a top), a second hand bag (I got from a friend) and a pair of brown sandals (that I often pair with this skirt).
6. WITH DOTTED SNEAKERS AND A PINK TOP
Now this is an outfit I wore years ago. I wore it for travelling and I still remember how comfortable I found it. Pairing this white pencil skirt with a pink tee and sneakers was such a fun look, I should try it again some day. There is a DIY element to this outfit- the arm candy I'm wearing, I made it myself.
7. WITH A WHITE T-SHIRT AND A STRAW BAG
My final outfit proposal is another recent look. I bought this white shirt in a second hand shop a few years ago. I was looking for a professional looking shirt to wear to work and what you know- I found the perfect one in a second hand shop in Split. If you look hard enough, you can even find office suitable clothes second hand. Here I paired this shirt with this pencil skirt for obvious reason- a bit of matching whiteness. I'm really into all white summer outfits right now. I finished this look with comfy heeled sandals and a straw bag to really get into those summer vibes. I might be prepping for autumn in my head, but I'm determined to make the most of summer while it lasts.
As always thank you for reading and commenting. Tell me what you think about these 7 ways to wear a pencil skirt. Do you like pencil skirts? Do you own any vintage ones? Have a lovely day ahead!

    Baci!

  11. I think people sometimes miss the point with sustainable fashion. You don't actually have to spend any money or a lot of money. It's more about working with what you already have, taking care of your clothing so it lasts and getting creative with your styling. This pretty white pencil skirt you got from your mother is a perfect example :)
