Layering a Yellow Summer Dress in Summer? Outfit Proposal of the Day

Happy Monday lovely people! Remember my post about the art of layering a summer dress in summer? Well, if you don't, you can always refresh your memory here. One of my tricks for layering a summer dress is very simple: wrap a shirt around it. There is something so nineties about that, right? I don't mind because I love the nineties. You can also wrap a long sleeve tee around your waist, but there is something about wrapping a shirt that really appeals to me.

As we all know, it can get very hot during the summer. That is why it is important to pay attention to the fabrics we wear. Take this outfit, for example. I'm wearing a cotton dress paired with a cotton shirt. By relying on cotton materials, I managed to layer my summer outfit without risking being too warm. The necklace I'm wearing is my own creation. It is made from up-cycled faux leather and rhinestones but since the necklace isn't enormous, it didn't make me uncomfortable. I like statement necklaces but I do try to make them comfortable to wear as well. For me personally, the practical aspect of designing a necklace is just as important as the aesthetic one.

You can see more of my hand made necklaces herehere, and here. I tend to avoid glue in my creations, for a number of reasons. First of all, using a needle and thread has to be more ecological. There are no chemicals involved in the all good sewing! Secondly, I'm quite good with the needle so why not make the most of it? In my last post, I spoke how skills take both time and effort to develop. Moreover, one has to constantly maintain one's skills. So, if you want to do something or get better at something, instead of loosing time questioning whether you have the talent or not, just do it! If you don't try, you'll never know. I didn't just wake up one day with mad embroidery skills, it's something I've worked on for years.

But back to the subject of today's post: layering in Summer, or to be more precise- layering of a summer dress. If you are looking for more ideas, look no further. There are definitely a lot of ways to layer a summer dress, even when it's really hot outside. Why not try the following:

- wearing a vest with it,
- wearing a blouse, a t-shirt or a shirt over it,
-wearing a cropped top over it,
- wearing a body chain over it,
- wrapping a scarf around your waist,
-wrapping a blouse, a t-shirt or a shirt around your waist,
- wearing a scarf as a poncho,
-wearing a regular poncho,
- wearing a skirt over it,
- wear it with jeans or jeggings,
- wear it with leggings,
- wear it with shorts,
- wearing a crochet or sheer jacket over it.

As you know if you have read my last post, I've been trying to get back into drawing & illustrating. Thank you very much for all your kind comments. It is definitely a challenge being consistent with one's art, finding the time and energy to keep one's your art skills, especially if you don't receive a compensation for it (apart from your personal satisfaction obviously!) but as they say- where there is a will there is a way.  I have a lot of art plans for August and there is still a joint exhibition I need to attend! I submitted my painting for this exhibition more than a month ago. By time time,  I almost forgot what paintings  I have submitted and what they look like. Almost. Speaking of my art, I was planning to write a post about my experience of taking an art course, but I want to wait until the exhibition. In reality, I've took several art courses so far, (I think I have something like 4 art certificates/degrees by now) and I wanted to put all those joint exhibitions in one's post. Moreover, I started another course that has nothing to with art or languages. Can you guess what it is? I've started it about a week ago, and it's been very intense. I guess that last week was  'back to school' for me! I'll tell you more about it in the future.

Thank you for your kinds comments about my last post!

Besides summer layering, another subject I like to talk about are books. In case you're looking for a good reading recommendation, here are links to some book reviews I've published recently on my other blog and goodreads:

  3. This dress is like a ray of sunshine and your styling is so fun and chic. You're right to point out that we should pay attention to the types of fabrics we wear if we want to stay cool in the summer. Lightweight cotton or linen is definitely the way to go. I tend to stay away from synthetics that don't breathe.

  10. Hi Ivana, how are you? It's been a while since I popped by and I'm so excited seeing your blog entries! Love the yellow summer dress and how you layered it with a waist shirt. It's so simple yet fun. It's so humid here by the way that being outside calls you to relinquish any type of layering. I hope that you will get to exhibit your art the way you had planned and continue expressing it. Have a lovely day beauty :) xoxo

Could it be you are attending a sewing course? Or maybe a cooking class? Now I'm curious to hear more about it!
And I'm convinced you'll get back very soon to your drawing and illustration routine, cool that you show your art in this exhibition!
