Layering for a professional suit look / Slojevito odijevanje za profesionalni poslovni izgled

If you want something to fit perfectly, paying a visit to seamstress might be a good idea. That is how I ended up with this lovely suit. Black suit is a good investment. Not only is it easy to dress it up or down, it is also something you can wear to just about any occasion. It works well in all seasons. When Winter comes, all you have to do is throw a coat over your suit and you're all set to go. When it gets cold, it doesn't hurt to layer one's outfit. I'm just saying:).

“I don't believe in fashion. I believe in costume. Life is too short to be same person every day.”
Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

I did some research about suits. The answers to following questions are cited from Britannica, an online encyclopaedia.

HOW DO WE DEFINE A SUIT?

Suit, in dress design, matching set of clothes consisting, for example, of a coat, vest, and trousers

WHEN DID THE SHIFT IN WESTERN FORMAL ATTIRE START?

The shift in Western masculine attire from the doublet to the present-day suit began in the 1660s at the courts of Louis XIV of France and Charles II of England. The reformed style consisted of a long coat with wide, turned-back sleeves and a row of buttons down the front, some of which were left unbuttoned to reveal a vest (later called a waistcoat in England), an undergarment almost identical to the coat.

HOW DID THE  FIRM ESTABLISHED STYLE FOR MEN COME TO BE?

At first the vest had long sleeves that showed below the turned-back sleeves of the coat and then the sleeves were dispensed with entirely. Neither coat nor vest had a collar or lapels. To complete the new mode, tight-fitting breeches were worn with stockings gartered below the knee. By 1670 this type of suit had become the firmly established style for men and was worn with no essential change until the end of the 18th century.

THE JOURNEY OF SUIT TROUGH REVOLUTIONS

From the time of the French Revolution until well into the 19th century, a man’s suit consisted of a short, fitted waistcoat (called a veston in France); below-knee-length breeches or long trousers; and a long outer coat. A top hat was worn with it. By the 1830s, breeches were worn as compulsory court attire and by the elderly and the unfashionable, and long trousers were worn by everyone else.

WHEN DID THE PROTOTYPE OF A MODERN SUIT APPEAR?

The prototype of the modern suit appeared in 1860 as the “lounge suit,” which was for informal wear and consisted of long trousers; a waistcoat, or vest (often elaborately decorated); and a short coat. The desire on the part of the middle class for gentlemanly clothes led to great conformity in men’s suits; since the 19th century men’s fashions have remained more or less static.

WHEN DID WOMEN'S TAILOR SUITS START TO TAKE OFF?

Women’s “tailor-made” suits became very popular in the second half of the 19th century for sport and traveling. When women began to work outside the home after the Civil War and even more so after World War I, they adopted this form of suit, which consisted of a matching skirt and jacket. In the second half of the 20th century, women began to wear matching jackets and trousers (pantsuits).

POST UPDATE:

TIPS FOR WEARING & STYLING SUITS

Suits are actually quite easy to dress up and down. All you need to dress down a suit is a cute top and a pair of sneakers. Likewise, if you want to dress a suit up, all you need is a fancy clutch and a pair of fancy shoes. If you're going to own just one suit, I would suggest opting for a black one. However, a suit in bright colour is a lovely choice as well, especially if it is something you're comfortable wearing. A suit in bright pink can become your iconic piece, if bring pink is something you adore.

“He wore a tailor's masterpiece of obsidian fabric so expensive that it would've been personally offended to have been referred to as a 'black suit'. It was a really nice black suit.”

But cosmetics are easier to buy.”

  10. It's true, dear Ivana, layering is good, who wants to feel cold? No way! I loved your black suit and it's a good investment to go to a seamstress, for sure. I have some (in different places) and I can't imagine myself without a good one - I always have to shorten hems - jeans, coats, whatever, because I am short :) Loved the outfit with the scarf and coat! You look very beautiful and super chic! Hope you have a very nice day, dear Ivana!

  19. Dear Ivana, yes, sometimes it is a really good idea to give a piece of clothes to a seamstresser. Sometimes I try to change the clothes by myself but I have to admit I'm still not really good in sewing ... You look fantastic in your suit and how you have combined it! It makes me smile to see the both of us in two pieces suits :) Have a wonderful Thursday evening, here in Bavaria we have still snow ...

  24. gosh, your style is so fab!!! this is a nice business outfit. this coat ist so cool. i love this colour on it and i think it would perfectly match to a (leather) leggings with the same colour.

my only critics on this is: this green eye shadow is not your colour for make up. i like this colour as smokey eyes not at all. i think green make up is not the colour to wear. choose another one like yellow, rose, a soft blue tone or even a really dark eye shadow.
