A BOOK REVIEW : BLACKBERRY WINE BY JOANNE HARRIS

Image
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! Today I'll be reviewing a novel titled  Blackberry Wine by Joanne Harris. I'm quite fond of magical realism, but this was my first encounter with this author. I have to admit that what attracted me to this book was the beautiful cover. The author name (Joanne Harris) didn't ring familiar. On the cover, she was mentioned as the author of Chocolat . That did ring a bell. Naturally, I've heard about Chocolat the movie. Who hasn't? However, I have neither read the novel nor watched the movie adaptation (featuring Juliette Binoche and John Depp). Still, I had seen the trailer for the film enough times to remember what it was about generally speaking. So, having observed the cover and reading the blurb, I wondered what this novel would be like. Would wine play a similar role as chocolate in the other book? Would it find ways to human hearts? Would it be a romantic book? Would I learn something about French culture? Besides the boo...

A MATCHING TEA GREEN SET FROM DESIGNER STANKA ZOVKO

Image
Hello dear readers! How are you doing? Today I'll show you different ways to style a tea green matching set from designer Stanka Zovko. I purchased this adorable tea green set yesterday and I liked it so much I wore it twice already.  I will tell you all about how I came to buy it in a minute. I actually have to thank my husband for it. Last week was a bit crazy (and not always in a good way), so my husband decided to treat me with a shopping date. He took me Ozz store in Mostar. Ozz is a local brand owned and run by designer Stanka Zovko. You might remember Ozz fashion brand from my previous posts. I posted about some of Stanka Zovko's fashion shows I attended in the past ( March 2013  & October 2013 ). Stanka Zovko's designs are always wonderfully imaginative, creative and unique. Whenever I visit her Ozz shop I feel inspired.  I'm always amazed by the things she comes up with.  Moreover, I took a fashion design and sewing class with Stanka Zovko back in 2018 (...

BOOK REVIEW: GODS IN ALABAMA BY JOSHILYN JACKSON

Image
Hello dear readers! Today I'm back with another book review.  This was my first novel by Joshilyn Jackson. Gods in Alabama was her debut novel, I believe. It's always fun to discover a new author. Let's start with the positives and work our way from there. What I liked the most about this novel is how it is focused on female relationships. On the surface, it might look like a love story mixed up with a murder mystery but at its core, it is something else. The novel follows a story of Arlene, who escaped the South never to come back. Arlene (who now goes by the name Lena) talks regularly on the phone with her aunt but refuses to visit her family in the South. Arlene was practically raised by her aunt because her mother was incapable of taking care of her. The relationship between the protagonist Arlene and her first cousin, the girls being as close as sisters, was quite touching. Moreover, the relationship between the protagonist Arlene and her aunt (who is in a way her ad...

VISIT TROGIR CITY WITH ME!

Image
Hello lovely people!  Today I'm taking you to Trogir city. I visited this lovely Croatian city two days ago with some friends. We had a nice time.  It's lovely seeing the streets full of life and people again.  All the restaurants were full but somehow we managed to find a place for us in a small bistro in the marine on island Ciovo. In case you haven't visited before, there is a bridge connecting island Ciovo and Trogir city. I forgot the name of this small restaurant but I will add it if I remember it.    I will share both photographs I took two days ago and some from my previous visits. It is always a pleasure to visit Trogir.   This city has got a lot going for it. Trogir has one of the best preserved Romanesque- Gothic complexes in Europe. The city can boost with numerous historical landmarks. It has a high concentration of historical churches, towers, structures and a fortress. Literally, every where you look, you'll be beholding history. Th...
