FRIDAY FASHION ILLUSTRATION: DIOR, D&G AND ORIGINAL DESIGNS
Hello! I'm back with another Friday Fashion Illustration post. Some time ago when I decided to get into fashion illustration art more seriously, I didn't know what I really wanted or what I needed to do. I knew what I didn't want, though- and that is for my illustrations to look like everyone's else. Most of my blog readers (even those who joined in fairly recently) have had the chance to observe my fashion illustration journey. There were some misses along the way, but over the years I have learned a thing or two. I've experimented a lot over the years and I plan to continue doing so. The way I look at it is that every fashion illustration I do either teaches me something new or establishes something I already know. Today I have five new fashion illustrations to share with you. Two of them are designer looks and the other three are my original designs. The medium for all of these is watercolour pencils on mixed media paper. I also added digital touches to some of them as you will see. They are all drawn in an elongated style that is quite typical for fashion illustrations, but I hope there is some touch of my personal style in there as well.
We shall start with the runaway & designer fashion illustrations. I find these to be a great practice of my illustrated skills and sometimes they are also quite fun to do. I like to be aware of the runaway trends even if I don't always choose to follow them. I just find it interesting to see what is going on in the fashion world and I always have this interest. I don't particularly crave branded or designer clothes, though. However, runaways are as a good place to look for inspiration as some other places.
CHRISTIAN DIOR SPRING SUMMER 2021- MAKING OF A FASHION ILLUSTRATION
Bellow you can see my illustration of a runaway look from Dior Spring Summer 2021 collection. This beautiful dress was the third look on the runaway and it was worn by a lovely model Jade Baya. I included the photograph alongside illustration but you can also have a look at the collection here (link to Vogue). I have to say that I'm not really happy with this illustration. I worked with watercolour pencils and I may have added too much water. I actually liked this illustration better when I drew it as opposed to when I added the water. I guess I didn't show full control over my art media in this one. While it is true that it is hard to get the shade of this dress in watercolour, there were other ways I could have approached it. I did some digital editing on it but I still wasn't happy with the result. I mean I made this illustration for myself, so that's alright but if I was making it for a commission or something, I would definitely draw or paint another one.
I illustrated this D&G midi poplin dress using a reference photograph I found on their site (here). The face of the model wasn't visible and I don't know who she. So, I just painted a face from my imagination without a reference. I specifically choose this Camellia-print poplin midi dress because it is hard to illustrate. This is a pleated floral dress. While I don't find pleats challenging anymore, drawing a floral pattern on a pleated dress was definitely a challenge. I had to draw flowers but make sure they are not fully visible but look folded (because of the pleats). Surprisingly, I didn't have any issues sketching or painting this one. Everything went smoothly and I was happy with the result. I didn't overdo the water in this one. I'm definitely happy with this D&G fashion illustration. Bellow you can see a 'work in process' collage as well as the finished result.
MY FASHION ILLUSTRATION DESIGNS
IMAGINING FAIRIES ON THE RUNAWAY- My first fashion illustration is inspired by Spring and Summer, it's all about flowers and greenery. This design is not something wearable, it's more like a lingerie piece worn with some artistic floral applications. I also did a digital version of this design that looks like a glowing dress. The digital version turned out quite interesting and it is available in my Redbubble shop here.
PINK AND GREEN SPRING AND SUMMER FASHION ILLUSTRATION
These two fashion illustrations bellow depict summer looks, two bathing suits worn with beach cover ups. I think pink and green are such lovely choices for both Spring and Summer. Not that I dislike Winter, but I'm looking forward to warm weather. These illustrations are available on Redbubble products here.
Me gusta el vestido de flores lindos bocetos. Te deseo un buen fin de semana
