DRESSING UP FOR A NATURE TRIP TO BUNICA RIVER

I think every opportunity to dress up should be seized. Carpe diem- seize the day. I like to dress up even when I'm at home or in the nature. Why should we wear nice clothes just for places someone deemed fancy? In my book, nature is by definition beautiful, far more beautiful than any place deemed fancy. So, it makes sense to dress the part. My home is a pretty fancy place in my book as well.  What does dressing up mean anyway? I suppose 'dressing up' means different things to us all, doesn't it? For some it's more about clothes, for others it's all about choosing the right make up, hairdo or accessories such as pretty jewellery or a posh bag. My personal definition of it is doing or wearing whatever makes you feel dressed up or beautiful. In my case, it's mostly wearing clothes or accessories that I genuinely enjoy and that make me feel like a Barbie of some sort. A nice hairdo doesn't hurt either. I'm still struggling with iron and I found that braiding my hair makes my life a bit easier. My hair is typically naturally straight but with my iron this low, it is harder to manage and tends to get tangled. So, braided hairstyles come to the rescue. I always get asked whether I'm wearing extensions when I braid my hair. No, that's all my hair. Ever since it got warmer and sunnier, I'm protecting my hair and my face by opting for a wide brim straw hat. I do love straw hats. If you live in a Mediterranean climate, wide brim hats are absolutely a must. Fedora hats are cute, but remember that every extra inch on your hat reduces the chances of you getting skin cancer. The bigger is often the better when it comes to choosing a hat that will protect you against the summer heat. Speaking of heat, the day I wore this outfit was pretty warm. I paired this white tunics with a striped skirt, a cross over bag, burgundy tights and dark olive pointy booties. I didn't wear my engagement ring that day, only my wedding rings but bellow are some links that will take you to Jeulia site (maybe you will remember that I collaborated with them in the past) in case you're in the market for those.

Yes, it was quite warm that day, a proper late Spring day. We chilled by Bunica river seeking refreshment. Buna recreational area is a great place to visit. It's always so green and beautiful here. I think my outfit was well selected. Comfortable enough to do some hiking, but pretty enough to make me feel happy and dressed up. I don't regret wearing tights as I generally find them comfortable even in warmer weather. I got used to wearing tights when I was a flight  attendant. Plus, tights are basically shape-wear. Maybe you don't think of them that way, but they can help to smooth everything. All in all, I was happy with this comfy but feminine outfit. Buna was the destination for the first 'weekend trip', my husband and I took many years ago when I was an University student. Taking short trips has become one of us routines. We love to sneak out to nature, sometimes just for a few hours and come back feeling energized and refreshed. You don't always have to take a vacation, sometimes a few hours are all it takes to explore areas around you. My last post was from Croatia, but Bosnia and Herzegovina has a lot of great destinations as well. Buna is one of them. I love being a local tourist. Even before corona, I never really travelled abroad. I was always content to explore the beauty that was in my vicinity. I sort of live in two countries (I alternate between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia) but I do live by the 'be a tourist in your country'. It helps that I have two beautiful countries to live in but either of them would probably be enough for me. I know there have been so many negatives due to recent events in the world, but one good thing we can learn from all of this is to appreciate the place we have found ourselves in. Appreciate the place you live in. Every place is beautiful in some way. Spending time in nature is always a good thing for our mental and health wealth being. There are many natural oasis around us and often we don't really have to travel that far to find them.

Isn't it amazing how a walk in nature can make us feel brand new? I always find nature so inspiring. As an artist, I feel that nature has so much to teach us. As some say, nature is the greatest artist. It's so fascinating to observe this place, the greens and the blues, the water and the forest. There are also many birds here, so it is a great destination for bird lovers. We once saw a group of foreign bird-watchers with cameras looking for birds in vain. I think the cameras scared them or maybe the birds escaped from those bird watchers because they were not familiar with them. If you are a regular visitors, the birds are a lot more friendly. In fact, sometimes they follow us around, flying after us. There are some really beautiful birds here but if you want to see them, you'll need a bit of patience. Don't scare them with big cameras right away. Wait for a little bit and they will probably come to you. Now, when it comes to ducks, you don't need to be that patient. They are quite used to people feeding them or devoting them attention. The ducks are not shy at all. Last time we were there, we forgot to bring food for them. They pretended to eat rocks to get our attention. They deserved Oscar for their act. As soon as would look at them, they seemed depressed and looking for food but when we would turned away, they resumed acting normal. I always take offence when people say that birds aren't smart. Most of birds are really quite smart, all of them in their own way.

Thank you for reading and stopping by!

  2. You live in such a beautiful part of the world. You're right, the pandemic really has made us all appreciate where we live that bit more although I'm still itching to get on a plane and escape if I can!
I really like your hair plaited like that, mine's dead straight too. The embroidered off-the-shoulder blouse is really pretty.
I didn't know you were a flight attendant. xxx

  5. Justin and I do the same - we love revisiting our favorite places around here and explore new ones, there are still many to explore! Bunica River is beautiful, and you, my dear, are always fancy. I love staying comfortable in my home, but I do wear dresses at home a lot, just comfortable ones. Your top is beautiful and your hair is gorgeous either way, just extra fun with braids! Tell us more about being a flight attendant. What places did you go? Lots of love!

    1. I'm afraid that I only went to different airports. I was technically in different countries but I didn't see any of them because most often we had five different destination flights in one day and returned home after it.

  7. Yes, yes, yes, to dressing up, even when we're staying at home or going for a walk in nature. I'm so glad that you do so as well, as I often feel like a freak when I'm out walking in a skirt or dress, and with make-up on, while everybody else is in tatty shorts and t-shirts, or **shudder** athleisure wear. I am also glad to have found a fellow nylons wearer, even in warm weather. Only when it's extremely hot do I go bare-legged! Oh, and we also revisit our favourites places again and again. Nothing wrong with that surely! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend Ivana xxx

  9. I loved this post and everything you mentioned in it. It just made me smile. Ducks are pretty clever, aren't they and they're so cute! I think a tutorial on how you braid your hair is in order. I've never done small braids all over my head and now, I'm tempted. You look beautiful in your outfit and you're absolutely right about nature being the fanciest place out there. It's real in ways an artificial environment can never compete. Its aliveness bring out our inner glow and I echo your thought on appreciating the place we're blessed to live in. Thank you for your inspiring post :)
